Lawrence, you were talking about the bystander effect!! It says, essentially, that the more people see/hear/know of a crime or whatever, the less likely they are to report it. It isn't people being horrible. It has a lot to do with thinking that someone else has already reported it and not wanting to keep bothering people that can help. Most famously is the Kitty Genovese case, which you guys alluded to. Its a fascinating effect. And, yes, you are supposed to yell "Fire!" or something because people think they need to get out - the amount of people doesnt effect their perception of "out!!". Versus yelling "Help!!!" in a busy building and thinking "I cant do anything to help and someone else has surely called the cops, I will just be in the way or even get in trouble for not stepping in."

I believe Lawrence was talking about the bystander effect (aka Genovese syndrome) when they were talking about James harrowing tale of heroism. (44:26) It’s sometimes referred to as Genovese Syndrome after Kitty Genovese who was murdered in Queens New York while her neighbors failed to react and help her.

I love coming into work and instead of actually starting my job, I open Funhaus and catch up.... perfect morning combination of the Funhaus group and coffee... my production value goes down 10% every morning you have a new video so thanks for that. Also, my 1st mario memory is of my mother, yes my mother, showing me the hidden secret when you duck on the block to go behind them in Super Mario World 3. She would take us to school about an hour early so she could play mario. She made me the gamer I am today.

best mario memory = the first time playing super mario 64, sitting on the carpet 5 feet from the tv, with two hot pockets on a plate. those round ones. they were just ok before that day, pizza pops were much better. however since eating them while playing super mario 64 for the first time, its like my memory has linked pepperoni and cheese hot pockets with the flawless carefree happiness brought on by the first ever free roam 3D mario game with controls so fluid, its a joy to play. and now its a joy to eat hot pockets to bring those memories back every time.

My oldest brother kept begging our parents for a SNES and then that Christmas I got it and he was so furious. But he perked up as I let him play Super MARIO World first and it ended up being such a fantastic day. And since that day I have always loved Mario and always purchase day one on the new games. The phenomenon that Lawrence was talking about is called 'The Bystander Effect' and basically it's that people are far less likely to help someone in distress while other people are around. And then because everyone assumes someone else will do it or has already done it, no help is then given to the person in need

When I was a child, I was stuck in the hospital for two months due to illness. This was in the early 90s, and the only entertainment the hospital had were internal cable channels, which were only three stations, and an NES. The NES had DuckTales, Battletoads, and Super Mario 3. That's all. I spent the entire time playing those games when I couldn't even eat solid foods. So that's my memory of Mario 3.

I have one of those bins right outside my work. There are a couple frequent shoppers that come by but generally they aren't too bad. There was one time where someone made a nest in the near by bus shack, that was hard to explain to the transit people.

I lived there during that blackout.. my friends and I found the darkest room and pretended we were hosting a radio show and had our friends pretend to be callers. I think we were like 18 and ended up being one of the best times I can remember.

I like Lawrence, and that's why I will say this. Lawrence, the more you talk about yourself, and make the conversation about your experience the less people will emphasize and like you. I'm saying this not bc your experiences aren't interesting, but because there are many ways to present them, and since funhaus is a bunch of professional chit-chatters, they will eventually create a situation in which you can tell your story and be likable at the same time. love from Brazil.
