- Phoenix went from 19 to 34 to 51 - OKC went from 20 to 23 to 50 - OKC went from 22 to 24 to 40 to 57 - Philly went from 10 to 28 to 52 - Minny 19 to 23 to 46 It definitely would require Cade turning into at least an All-Star in two years but its more normal than is being portrayed here for bad teams with a bunch of lottery picks to get good once said lottery picks reach age 22-23. (And none of those teams traded their core young players to make that leap. The only one that comes to mind is LA trading for AD.) I also think people are wildly underestimating when discussing the team 1) how destructive Monty was the first 3 months 2) how bad the injuries/missed games were and 3) how much better the roster is with Fontecchio and Grimes in place of Bogdanovic and Burks Simply having 8-9 competant NBA players and normal injury luck gets you to 30 wins.

Agreed. I think we need to wait on it. We can’t trade our lottery tickets for $10 bills. It’s not worth it cuz we can’t get enough for them anyways. Go pay to get nba guys and keep your lottery picks

@@cordelldemattei5446 Moves are fine. If someone offers us a 25 year old two-time All-Star for Ivey or 8 firsts for Cade we should definitely do it. But trading young talented players for older expensive players almost never works out. *Especially* when the guy you are trading for is not even an All-Star. Those are the moves that put you _deeper_ in the hole not pull you out of it.

@michaelahurt - Excellent DUE Diligence. In the context of priorities in building a DYNASTY, I'd like to continue by submitting: *Phoenix went from DeAndre Ayton to Jusuf Nurkic and Bol Bol *OKC went from Steven Adams to Chet Holmgren *Philly went from without Embiid to with Embiid (pretty much) *Minny went from KAT & Greg Monroe to KAT & Rudy Gobert. Each team got taller CTRS that PLAY BIG (not 7FT Guards). In conjunction with your data, this points to making it a priority to upgrade the Roster in terms of getting SKILLED 7FTRS, and in particular 7FTRS that do 7FTR things. Looks like a CORRELATION to me, anyways. 😐

Some of this conversation seems outdated. The new CBO limits a team’s ability to sign multiple stars. You can certainly try to do that and you might be able to clinch a play-in spot. I’m sure on paper it looked amazing to see Durant, Booker and Beal on the same team. Or think of the hope the fans had while watching AD and Lebron stay healthy all year. Look, we all hope Cade can play more than 60 games next year, but would you bet on it? Omari was right about Ivy and Duran’s development. Let’s see how things play out with them next year and then make a decision at the trade deadline. Depth will be the name of the game for teams that can make championship runs. It also takes lottery luck right? What would these podcasts sound like if we won the Wemby sweepstakes? Or if we had Palo instead of Ivy? You’ll have to find distressed assets on the FA market and hope that they outperform their contracts-talking about guys like Bridges and Harris… or you’ll have to sign guys like Monk and promise them a starting role. Unfortunately if you don’t like that path, then you’ll have to consider trading for Ben Simmons with picks attached like OKC did, but I know that’s not what anyone wants to hear.

The new team president should focus a ton of time on finding player development coaches and assistants that can help build up our young guys and turn them into assets

Simmons is an expiring so they could just trade him for a better player on a longer deal with no picks going either way. Anyway he's the salary they are trading for Donovan Mitchell. And even we wanted to rent cap space, Washington isn't giving away picks to take Poole. Same with Chicago with LaVine, Utah with Collins and Portland with Ayton and Grant. Phoenix can't trade Beal. You'd need to give picks for Jaylen Brown. Although the one thing I agree with Ku on is we are past that point of renting cap space. That should have been done 3-4 years ago. As you noted we are at the 'bring in competent veterans' stage

So many moves and years to assemble the Bad Boys . . . The 1979-80 team lost its last 14 games of the season which, when coupled with the seven losses at the start of the 1980-81 season, constituted a then-NBA record losing streak of 21 games. The franchise's fortunes finally began to turn in 1981, when they drafted point guard Isiah Thomas from Indiana University. In November 1981, the Pistons acquired Vinnie Johnson in a trade with the Seattle SuperSonics. They later acquired center Bill Laimbeer in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 1982. Another key move by the Pistons was the hiring of head coach Chuck Daly in 1983. Initially, the Pistons had difficulty moving up the NBA ladder. In 1984, the Pistons lost a tough five-game series to the underdog New York Knicks, 3-2. In the 1985 playoffs, Detroit won its first-round series and faced the defending champion Boston Celtics in the conference semifinals. In the 1985 NBA draft, the team selected Joe Dumars 18th overall, a selection that proved to be very wise. They also acquired Rick Mahorn in a trade with the Washington Bullets. However, the team took a step backward, losing in the first round of the 1986 playoffs to the more athletic Atlanta Hawks. After the series, changes were made to make the team more defensive-minded. Prior to the 1986-87 season, the Pistons acquired more key players: John Salley (drafted 11th overall), Dennis Rodman (drafted 27th) and Adrian Dantley (acquired in a trade with the Utah Jazz). The team then adopted a physical, defense-oriented style of play, which eventually earned them the nickname "Bad Boys".

This should be the Detroit Pistons rooster for 2024 - 2025 Point Guards D'Angelo Russell (sign), Marcus Sasser, Bronny James (second round) Shooting Guards Collin Sexton (trade), Anthony Black (trade) Small Forwards Cade Cunningham, Simone Fontecchio, Cody Williams (first round) Power Forwards Brandon Ingram (sign), Isaiah Stewart Centers Andre Drummond (sign), Jalen Duren, Zach Edey (late second round) Jaden and Ausar are traded. Drafting Bronny is not to try to get Lebron, but the relationship with Rich Paul. Bronny is also a good defender and his shooting is actually better than his last year's performance. He will also be the hardest worker in the gym. Ausar won't be missed. Jaden is a turnover machine along with other issues. I am gun shy on French players after Detroit chose two first round bust. Cody will become a baller in this league. Collin is my dude. He's a shooter and still young D'Angelo is perfect for the pistons along with Cade and Ingram. Zach is a dog. That will give us two of them (Isaiah). The team will feed from them. Anthony Black is special, but I think we can get him, because Orlando is so guard heavy.

There is a 0.000000000% chance Cade doesn't sign his extension. Everyone signs it. Especially a guy who already missed an entire season. This is not a legitimate concern. In reality, the market for Ivey and Duren is next to nothing so trading them doesn't help you. Any trade involving them now is likely to turn out like the Vucevic deal or the Ibaka deal. If Utah offers Lauri or Brooklyn offers Bridges and DFS for Ivey, Duren, the pick and another first go for it but that's not actually happening. Its gonna be Zach LaVine or Dejounte Murray. @@cordelldemattei5446 Brooklyn did everything KD asked and he left anyway. Houston bent over backwards for Harden and he left. If a guy is gonna leave he's gonna leave. Cade has an ego like anyone else and he wants to have his own team.) You can get return value in 3 years too. Probably a lot more value. You don't buy high and sell low. The key is not slow or fast… the key is to use analytics and bball IQ in team building. Adding a 3&D wing and a 3 & D BIG is mandatory whether it’s the draft or trade. Adding another flashy ball handler is a waste of time whether it’s Brandon Ingram or another top pick. Building a smart 2-way team is the key to winning. That’s what the winning teams are doing. Talent chasers are getting eliminated every year now! Clippers/Lakers/Milwaukee/Phoenix/Philly. Smart teams with quality role players are winning! Denver/Okc/Minnesota/Boston The vision and plan is what matters more than how you do it. Draft a player that fits like Cam Whitmore or Risacher or Filipowski. Sign a player that fits like Fontecchio or Jalen Smith or Jalen Johnson. It’s the vision and the fit that matters…

Superstar or top 30 player ever? The reality is that the only guys who move the needle in the win column at 20, 21, 22 are the very, very, very best players. LeBron, Luka, KD, etc. Jokic and Giannis weren't even All-Stars until year 4. Phoenix won 19 games when Booker was in year 4. AD's best year in NO was 48 wins and that was with Jrue and Boogie. Most young guys who win are just in good situations. You could replace Any or Paolo with 50 guys and Minnesota and Orlando are still gonna win because they win with defense, not offense. Tatum wasn't the best player on Boston until year 4 and they were 36-36 No one wants to hear this but Cade is still probably 2 years away from being that guy.

Honestly I'm not sure how much Cade would play on most playoff teams. He's never shown the ability to defend or shoot consistently and that's what he'd be asked to do since playoff teams have better primary ball handlers than him. Fontecchio would be a rotation guy (25-35 min) on every playoff team and Stewart would be a useful reserve (15 min) for OKC and anyone playing Jokic or Embiid. And while Grimes seems to have forgotten how to shoot, he still played 27 min/game in the playoffs for NY last year Ivey, Ausar and Duren are too young. Sasser is too small. Everyone else is too bad.

Exactly. I'm not even sure Ingram is realistic. So you trade Fontecchio and a top 5 pick for Ingram and another 1-2 firsts Are you really in a position to mortgage your future when you won 14 games? Maybe they want Ivey and Duren but neither makes sense with Zion so it's probably 3 firsts. You trade firsts when you're good not when you're bad Could you trade this year's pick, another pick, Duren and Ivey for Dejounte Murray? Sure but I'm not sure that really addresses any of your issues unless you only care about winning 30 games next year. A Murray-Cade backcourt has the same problems as a Trae-Murray or Cade-Ivey backcourt It's almost impossible to get good value by trading top 5 picks in the first 3 years unless it's a guy you'd never trade. If Cade is the future, we need 3&d shooters and rim runners who can shoot around Cade. Period. If Ivey, Ausar, Duren, Stewart, and the rest of the roster, does not fill that requirement. Bye. Also Cades Robin to his Batman, should be a power forward.

I agree with the opinion that this offseason might be too early to give up on the young players due to the Monty debacle.

A lot of that is Monty. Monty figured it out a little after the Washington game we lost with Cade after beating OKC without Cade but he was using Cade like he was James Harden (including an offense out of 2016). A big part of why they looked better without Cade at times was because the offense was democratized so defenses couldn't just key in on one guy. Cade is good, he's just not the helio-centric Luka Doncic-lite that some think he is. He's closer to Devin Booker. But he is very skilled and will likely be an All-Star in the 25-26 season. Especially if he starts mixing in off ball movement, learns to beat traps, and gives the ball up faster when he draws a second defender.

What do you guys think about taking on beals 3 year contract? I think with being the primary scorer on this team hed play much better than he is in Phoenix. My 2024 lineup would be: Cade Malik Beasley or beal Tauren prince or naji Marshall Tobias or ingram Claxton or Thomas Bryant

Man can we stop with the Cade needs this and the Cade needs that be honest truth is Cade was one of the main reason we lost 30 in a row his shooting sucked during that stretch and he had the highest TO ratio in the league his handle is not good his finishing is not good 3 point shooting not good the only skill he has as of now is mid range shooting and that’s not good enough this blame everyone but Cade thing you have going on is crazy he is a poor man Luka without the finishing ability or 3 point shooting his only skill is mid shooting and that’s not good enough

A more athletic Andre Roberson with better rebounding, playmaking and passing is the floor and he played 60 games? If you not intrigued by this I don't know what to say to you. Unless they hit a top 3 pick in a stacked draft they're not going to have this type of upside anytime soon
