Is this guy kidding me with all these positives about Monty???? His offensive sets and schemes are atrocious; pacifying why Monty doesn’t like certain players because he actually has to coach them is ridiculous; just downplaying how horrible his rotations and lack of feel for the game as “oh, whatever” is nonsense. Good show Ku but Laz is fried.

I just read somewhere that the rumor is that Monty will be kept if he - "demonstrates that he can deliver significantly more progress in the development of its team and players"- which is kind of like saying I could be appointed president of the universe if I can somehow learn to flap my arms and fly. WTF?

@@garyweglarz I’m pretty sure in any other profession if your boss has to repeatedly pull you to the side and ask “what are you doing? Why aren’t you doing the obvious right thing?” You’d be fired. Imagine at your year end review you boss asks “are you going to actually do the job we hired you for next year?” There’d be no next year. Monty’s the worst thing to happen to this franchise since Arn Tellem.

The only way a guy currently on a rookie deal gets moved is if it's to acquire an All-Star level player. Otherwise, I'm not trading any of them. Even if they aren't starting, they would be great bench players until they develop further. Ivey, Sasser, Grimes, Thompson, Stewart would be a really solid bench.

Weaver needs to be fired. Monty needs to be fired. Monty should have never been brought in, and I DON'T TRUST Weaver to make solid decisions. It will be another year of "let's just see" and I can't stand that anymore. Get rid of them both.. Monty isn't a development coach, and he isn't a transcendent coach. He is mid...... Weaver destroys another young team and gets away with it.

yeah, ivey is clearly not ready to play winning basketball at the moment, but he is still so much better than killian hayes. killian hayes was the worst player i've ever seen who got consistent minutes and wasn't just a 15th guy that came in during blowouts.

I understand that Weaver didn't get a chance to hire his coach. For that reason I do feel he wasn't given the proper leeway. However, his management of the assets alone makes me not trust him for the future. The blueprint to rebuilding has always been tanking along with asset collection. We've been tanking and unlucky with the draft lottery. But the lack of stacking up picks, drafting Hayes instead of Haliburton and the Ivey pick is still to be determined because we could have drafted (Mathurin, Sharpe or Williams) who would have all been better fits next to Cade. We won't know who's going to be the better player out of these 4 in the next 2-3 yrs but right now Ivey is arguably the worst of the 4. Even if Weaver got his coach and say we did get Wemby. We'd feel much better but we still wouldn't have assets to build a team around Cade & Wemby because we never prioritized stacking up picks.

I think we overrate our players. Duren is raw. Ivey needs to develop more. Ausar can’t shoot. And Cade, as much as we like him, we lost MORE with him on the floor more healthy this year. I think Cade is a piece. I think ausar is a piece. I like isiah Stewart. But health is a question for beef stew and Cade. Have no idea how we can get better. We’re screwed

Sans the pandemic draft which limited workouts and drafting Killian Hayes and got some juice for Saddiq Bey and getting a dog in Isaiah Stewart. We got Cade Cunningham over Jalen Green. Jaden Ivey over Benedict Mathurin even we are at 5th pick Traded for Jalen Duren and getting another first round pick along with Jaden Ivey Scouted Ausar Thompson well despite the team having bad draft lotery odds and got him nstead of many fans trying or wanting to get Cam Whitmore and Taylor Hendricks Snagging Marcus Sasser. What other draft are you talking about? lol Give credit where it is due. He played his cards well in the draft despite the bad luck in the draft lottery but Im critical with his free agency moves. Now let me know why you think he is not a good drafter? Or are you just being too emotional? You can't hit them all! But he has been doing better than missing out compared to our 2010s drafting.

I think it’s simple, bring in actual NBA talent. I know we have assets to trade for guys like Clint Capela, Collin Sexton, or Robert Covington! Maybe throw a package together for Mikal Bridges. Bring back Danilo or Muscala because they can actually shoot as bigs. One of my favorite players right now is Miles Turner and I think he’s a better fit next to Cade than Duren or whatever Durens ceiling is as an interior big because of the spacing and how dominant Cade can be driving to the basket but… the answer is that this core most likely won’t develop together as pieces in a winning formula. You can’t be bad at shooting and bad at defense Jaden and Jalen you just can’t

Turner would be a great choice but the cost of getting him from the Pacers would be huge. I was a big fan of Drummond but the traditional big who isn't a top defender is useful in today's NBA.

Still think the best way forward is to spend this offseason and make ancillary moves (moving Ivey or Duren, Weisman, Sassar) and putting capable vets around Cade. Make weaver head of scouting, and hire a new GM. I don’t think the coach matters as much as those moves

I still don’t agree that you’re going to get a good enough return for Ivey to make it worth it this offseason. We’ve got probably 8-9 other roster spots that should turn over. Whoever is making the personnel decisions will have a ton of cap space and disposable players on the roster to make trades with. Change is coming either way. Doesn’t mean we should make a big mistake by trading a future star away.

Ku, it feels like you are using revisionist history. Things are bad enough without adding false narratives. Weaver is getting to year 4, not in year 5. Grant (FA signing) was traded for a 1st that was turned into Duren. Bojan traded for Grimes. Grimes hasn't been healthy with Pistons so not sure how he'll turn out yet. OKC traded PG and Westbrook to help amass picks. Houston had Harden for the same. Detroit had no assets and you know that. In order to take on bad contracts for picks you have to have cap space. Pistons only had cap space for one summer. Pistons best chip was Griffin when Weaver took the job. Griffin was already a negative contract and would have cost the Pistons draft picks to trade.

Cade’s actually a good point guard. The issue with Ivey is that he clearly struggles to play off ball. He’s regressed as a catch and shooter. He doesn’t make good cuts to the basket, and even when he does, he isn’t a good finisher. Then he’s 6’4, so he doesn’t rebound, and he also happens to be one of the worst defenders in the nba. So yes, the question is if Ivey is a good player.

The fact that Ivey and Duren's stock fell so hard is a nightmare scenario. They got nothing but a top 5 pick in one of the worst drafts ever I wouldn't be shocked if the new GM comes and says that "we have to trade Cade for assets, cause we have nothing to build around him anyways"

No slight or hated... please can someone help understand. Why has Cade been warranted as the face of the franchise. Does Pts rbs ast triumph over actually playing? Cade is decent, but not excusable for not being there. The standard has definitely changed. I will say Cade is not the face i.e Edwards, Zion, g.a. Cade is more like Matthew Stafford face of a franchise. Putting heavy bucks into Cade will cost the pistons a winner like Stafford did.

Detroit will never win anything with the style of offense they're playing. Cade literally does the same thing everytime they're trying to set up in the half court to score either iso, or play pick and roll just like Ivey. It's more than just roster construction, and no Superstar will want to come to Detroit this offseason to fix it unless they're basically a fan of the team. They can't run an efficient NBA level offense in Detroit, and unless you got all-time great superstars it'll never work lol have they ever heard of a scouting report? They either go to the hoop while everyone else stands around not even trying to move, and get open or get off ball screens or something then kick it out for a 3 if they can't score it's sad to watch especially when Cade is so talented, and versatile, and can score in so many ways. Surrounding Cade with more shooting will only make things slightly better, but they still do the same thing all game every game even during a 28 game losing streak.

If the coach plays the wrong guys, plays guys to their weaknesses, and has no coherent plan it doesn’t matter what the GM does. We witnessed all that and more this season. So both are vitally important to a franchise. And Although neither is good I believe Monty has done more harm because he actually decreased the value of any asset we did have this season.

Everyone is up for trading, it’s not who you want to trade , it’s who you identify you want to trade for and then you give up whoever with this team. Easier said then done , but say Lauri markkannen or Mikal bridges are on the trade block , then you give up ausar Duren or Ivey and the #1 pick and do it. Nobody untouchable except Cade. Shake up needed , worst record in franchise history !

You guys are clueless!! How in the world can you blame Monty Williams for not winning with this weak ass team! Casey was Coach of the year. Monty was Coach of the year and got to the finals so it's not the coaches, it's this horrible roster!!! Why aren't you guys blaming Troy Weaver for putting this trash team together!
