Man, I loved how the last five-ten years of the show, he got a big standing ovation EVERY SINGLE TIME. I'm guessing this audience was juiced into doing it, too--not the case later on. Him and Oprah, man. They were the only ones who could command a huge, crazed standing ovation every single episode. We'll miss you, Bob.
Actually, I attended a taping with Rod Roddy as the announcer in 1997. He specifically juiced the audience into doing it. I could understand where you would think otherwise, though. The audience probably would have done it anyway without the coaxing.
@@SyncopateTheShot It looks great on TV when they give the standing O, plus it ensures Bob is in a good mood so I can see why they'd want the audience to do it.
I may be wrong. I may be wrong, but I think they're standing because Bob Barker has just given them 10 years of good, clean entertainment. I saw the year this episode was from.
Sometime either 1981 or 1982 they redid the stage with a new background for him coming out, no more lights around the borders and also the newer more modern theme.
Anyone catch Bob's little wave with his hand as he walked out, that's a rare sight there, he really hardly did anything like that that I can recall, was just a straight march to the front part of the stage generally speaking.
For 1982, this standing ovation was awesome to witness. Made me cry, especially since he went home to GOD, JESUS, HOLY SPIRIT, Dorothy Jo, and his mother Tilly. RIP BOB, WE LOVE YOU!!!!!
for xmas 1982 it looked funny as the turntable had been refinished, but the rest of the set around the turntables hadn't been. Something you'd NEVER see nowadays.
I seem to remember Bob at one point saying that sometimes kids were let in, if it was for like "Make A Wish" or something like that. Alternatively, they might not have had that rule at that time.
Near the end of the season, they occasionally take a week break (and I think around Christmas they do the same thing). However, for the most part, they tape every week.
If this took place right after Dorothy Jo died, you would think he would have thanked the viewers for their cards and letters of sympathy. So maybe it's not that episode.
+ponyboyjoey I'd like to be one of the first blind contestants to get up on stage. out of all my years watching, I've not yet seen a blind contestant on TPIR. Blind contestants on a game show, it can be done!
Looking at the set - now at 50; can someone tell me was TPR filmed on a regular sound stage? And is the audience part of one big set that could be moved on a whim?
