The quietest gun I own is a 5.56!? PTR Vent 3 on my KAC SR15

This video was meant to give the PTR Vent 3 a better representation of what it is capable of. And to showcase my KAC SR-15 build that I have the PTR mounted up to. Let me know how I did in the comments and if you want to see anything else from me!
Edit: Please check the pinned comment below for reference on the CAT suppressor I mentioned. CAT was generous enough to share their knowledge on Titanium in relation to suppresors and what the material is capable of. I was not by any means trying to take shots at CAT or their products I was simply comparing the PTR firing schedule to theirs. Thank you for watching!

PTR are some good guys, we wish them the best with Vent. Just as a community service announcement, as you used our manual to highlight temperature of Titanium, please be aware that our recommendation isn't just for CAT suppressors, it's for the AM manufactured material itself. Titanium and variations like Ti 64I-4V have an operating service temperature, it's not a brand related thing. Titanium behaves somewhat differently than most metals at extreme temperatures, for example, although titanium remains strong at high temperatures, it doesn’t easily dissipate heat, which can cause heat build-up. Ti 64I-4V is recommended for use at service temperatures up to approximately 350C (660F). Therefore, PTR maybe using another form of Ti mixture but 90 rounds shot at any 2 or 3 second interval will definitely exceed material service temperatures (mostly likely one magazine). I'd get clarity from PTR why Vent Ti threshold is so much higher, so customers and potential buyers don't start creating oxidation and failure events.

First and foremost, I'm flattered that you guys watched any part of my video and took the time to comment and share your knowledge. So thank you! I apologize for taking the manual at face value, I certainly did not mean to take any shots at you guys! Everything you mentioned makes total sense. I definitely need to look into it more and reach out to PTR to figure out how they got to that number. As I mentioned towards the end of my video this is my first Titanium suppressor so I am completely new to this material in a can. I would imagine alot of other companies don't take the time to do the research and be fully transparent with what Ti is capable of in comparison to you guys. Which then can be misconstrued as the suppressor itself not being able to handle the heat when in actuality it's the material it's made of. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and I look forward to being a future customer of CAT and many other suppressor manufacturers as this channel progresses. 🙏🏻

What’s the difference between ti6al-4v and grade 9 titanium? And why one over the other? Grade 9 seems to be able to withstand more. Or, at least that’s what other manufacturers claim. The reason I’m asking you guys, is because I trust you, more than the other guys claims

I go between shooting steel targets and paper. These cans are decent for sure. Shot them from 308, 5.56, and 9mm. Different cans of course but they did a good job with volume. That price is a bit much. The CAT cans are amazingly quiet and the new can dropping from Dead Air called the Lazarus is INSANELY quiet. Hearing safe from an 11.5” SBR 5.56.

So it was you that stole the TP7 out of my cart during checkout! Nice review of the PTR Vent. I was surprised that PTR of all companies came out with this. I overlooked it at first, simply thinking PTR was just manufacturing and selling standard run of the mill baffled suppressors. But, I was quite wrong. They definitely brought something unique to market. Suppressor innovation has been rapidly marching forward, which is great to see.

I would pick a Huxwrx 17-4 or WB 718 over this every time. That porous titanium is gonna be a pain to keep clean and keep cool. I don't believe any pure grade 5 Ti can will last if you dump 3 mags every time. CAT's manual is at least honest and straight forward about the limitations of the material. Sure, structure design can improve endurance, but you can't cheat physical property of a given material.
@TylersGuns
@TylersGuns 3 месяца назад
To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against CAT. I think they make a badass product. I'll hopefully get my hands on soon. I was just surprised when I heard the temp rating on it was all. Hux makes some badass cans too! The cleaning is definitely on everybody's mind. I guess I'll be the one to just run it until something happens. And there definitely may be better options out there. I just don't personally have them in hand to compare them. I just wanted to make a video that showed some of the things I thought were important to know on this suppressor for anyone who was already interested in them.
@carterlarscheid6213
@carterlarscheid6213 3 месяца назад
The cleaning regiment for these new types of 3-d printed cans is actually pretty simple and easy to do every few thousand rounds, a simple soak and drain and it's gtg. Cats cans are very similar if you've ever pulled the hub off and looked, very small complex gas pathways that will require the same amount of cleaning in the same way. 718 is more durable but you do pay the tax in weight, the ptr with the way its structured is going to do very well with flash and sparking as well as heat transfer. The engineer for ptr claims a pretty impressive durability for a titanium can. It definitely does compete with the wb718 in terms of suppression rating.
@whiteren8749
@whiteren8749 3 месяца назад
You gotta remember the vent 3 is nearly twice the mass of the WB Ti. CAT's Ti suppressors are very light for their size so they can be expected to heat up faster.
@JohnZ556
@JohnZ556 3 месяца назад
@@whiteren8749 Let's say twice, WB Ti only took 15 rounds on a 16'' to reach temp limit. Keep in mind muzzle pressure increases exponentially as you go shorter. So logically Vent 3 should be around 1mag if we guess linearly, but keep in mind vent 3 has greater overall suppression, which means it absorbs more energy from each shot. A 10.5'' is ~11,500psi, where a 16'' is just over 7,000 psi. Sure design can optimize some, but physical properties can't be cheated.
@JohnZ556
@JohnZ556 3 месяца назад
@@carterlarscheid6213 IDK, every 1000-1500rds for a partial soak and every 5000rds for a full soak sounds painful and expensive to me. They recommended CAT206 which is $140 per single use.
