That statue of King Philip that you found represents the Spanish monarch after whom the Philippines was named. His Spanish name is Felipe and the islands were named Islas delas Felipinas or the Islands of Felipe the King of Spain. That is the only monument of him in Manila and perhaps the entirety of the Philippines.

I think you should check out the southern part of Luzon. There's a cool mountain city that encircles a giant lake with a volcano in the middle. Tagaytay city. It's probably an hour and a half away from Manila (assuming good traffic). Baguio in the north is also really great but it's already a vlogger hotspot. Better to fill in the niches

Keep exploring more the beautiful sceneries in Manila with the nice and amazing people.

Ali I was looking at that Astrotel in the beginning of the video. It's crazy you should check it out. Most of Manila was totally destroyed by the Americans during WW2 whilst trying to take back the Philippines as the Japanese refused to surrender. A truly tragic and horrendous story of WW2 as the civilians suffered horrifically at the hands of the Japanese Navy who had control of the city. The Cathedral as you see it was completed in 1958 as it was totally destroyed.

8:52 Pasig RIver was declared a dead river in 1990 due to over pollution, it has been put on rehabilitation for a few years and good to say some vegetation and some species are starting to return to the river. It connects Manila Bay and Laguna de Bay and the flow of the river will depend on the season and the tides between the two bays.

I just wish you went to the oldest church in the Intramuros area, just behind the Manila Cathedral. A piece of advise, never hessitate to ask the local ones about places in the area you are visiting such as the important or significant places or area to see so rgat you won’t miss out on anything, just like the Oldest Church behind the manila Cathedral. Rigth across the Cathedral is the Fort Santiago and its a must see as well. I will comment again later do I can make your tour more fun and save time and get your money’s worth! You didn't go to Fort Santiago? It's just right across the Manila Cathedral and is the most historically significant site in all of Manila. It's crazy beautiful inside esp in the early evenings with wide open green spaces and the "baluartes" with its original adobe walls and floors, dungeons, the national hero Jose Rizal's museum, the prison cell where he was taken from to be executed by firing squad at Bagumbayan now Rizal Park, which is just a short hop away from Intramuros.

One of the reasons why its harder to book a Grab this days is because of the rapid increase of fuel prices. Drivers would rather not go out in the streets. Also during the pandemic, many could not afford to continue their bank amortizations and had to give up their cars :(

Highly suggest going to boracay for a quick relaxing getaway and awesome sunsets! Just came from there and it was a great time. water activities are pretty cheap in comparison to what you pay in western countries.

Glad to see you're exploring Luzon. There are lots of things to do here. Maybe you can visit diff CBDs in Metro Manila first, then go to the nearest provinces. Luzon has a lot to offer too.
