I had to google who Thogden is. As a middle aged guy, I really start to hate society. Everybdy and their mother can make RU-vid videos now and have 1+ million followers. And make a fuckload of money. I guess I am just jealous, having to work for a living while some booger eaters make money because other booger eaters watch them. By the way, I came here because RU-vid suggested the video.
These dives into clubs and their communities beyond 'bigger' clubs is so wholesome and always feels respectful to the people you interview, keep it up.
@@stuntpeggnieve it must have been playing on your mind being preferred over by Thogden. 😂 His friend just sat there in the middle wondering if it's going to kickoff between you and that kid but well played
I’m delighted that there’s so many RU-vidrs out there covering Scottish Football - I especially enjoy Sam’s videos - but for what it’s worth I think you’re the best ‘film maker’ and I enjoy sharing your work with non football fans too - I look forward to your Retrospective at the Sheffield Doc Film Fest one day! 🎥 🎬👏
Fair play to you travelling all the way up here to cover a pre season friendly. We know Scottish football isn't great but it's the best supported in Europe per head of population. Imagine what could be achieved if we had some serious money pumped into the Scottish game instead of the crumbs we receive from Sky's table!
You have such a gift or covering these types of games, a real eye for capturing the emotions of the fans. Ty for another brilliant video, top tier as per!
I have only just discovered your channel. I live in Australia but did my first 2 years of school in Greenock. My father used to take me to Capalow to watch Morton play and was lucky enough to be at Capalow when they secured promotion to the Premier League (1978). With one of the legions of the club playing at the time,Andy Ritchie. Thank you so much for showing the Morton and even better with a victory over the Skunks.
As a Canadian I landed on your RU-vid channel when you were discussing Wrexham and stayed around for the great insight and analysis on EFL and Soccer / Football in general. Its been great watching you engage with the folks and especially for the small market teams ... great stuff
Reminds me of the sort of atmosphere at Gigg Lane in the early 70s when you could walk around the entire ground during games and there were usually just two police officers at either end for crowd control. There is certainly something pure and anti-corporate about Scottish football outside the big city clubs. Great video.
Watched your videos for a few years now and I never thought I’d see you at cappielow park watching my team🤣 I was there aswell and absolutely loved it, hope you enjoyed it, great derby that not alot of people outside of Scotland know about
I remember as a boy going to Ross County v Bolton Wanderers, pre season with a Jason MacAteer playing for Bolton, Bolton fans sang the whole game and came in numbers was impressed 👍😊 great club 👍
If you feel Scottish sweetheart, then you're Scottish. We're delighted to have you. We'll even accept that other youtuber guy, whatever his name is. Just kidding, Sam 😂
@@jacobburtonswfc unfortunately that may well be the case yes but like Nieve said I think certain fixtures happening less frequently will add more value to them and generate more interest in the league
For people not familiar with the Scottish west coast Greenock is everything you imagine in a ruff Scottish Town. Its close enough to Glasgow to be like Glasgow but far away enough that its its own thing. All the towns doen that coast are bonkers. Paisley, Port Glasgow, Greenock, Dumbarton, Saltcoats, Irvine. Whole place is nuts.
I agree with the fella at the end that the day out at a Scottish game is a lot better than in England. Saying that, a day out at English Non-League is also a grand experience.
Hey mate, can you please tell me the names of the songs used.. especially the song where a woman is singing (..miss you.. can't you see what I..?) and the song thereafter.. (guitar intro.. and then a guy's heard singing "do..do do..") Sorry if I don't make any sense 😬

You always use great music in your videos, Nieve. I don't know if that's your music taste or your editor's (if you have one) but presumably you'd have to give it the green light anyway. Either way, nice to see another young person who likes older music.
I was on holiday in Glasgow in February 2020 (don't ask) with my girlfriend. We took the train out to watch Morton v Alloa. It ended in a 4-4 draw. The weather was atrocious; windy with driving sleet and snow. We noticed a cameraman getting prepared to film in the covered terrace. Just assumed it was for the match highlights. On that same holiday I discovered BBC Scotland's A View From The Terrace. After a getting home I looked it up on the Iplayer and became a regular fan. I'm sitting at home having breakfast, watching on the Iplayer and a feature on Cappielow comes on. Low and behold there's a big shot of me, standing looking absolutely frozen on the terrace!
I'm a big supporter of the SJ Earthquakes here in the states and follow the Premier league but some of your videos have been great for learning about these other football clubs that I otherwise wouldn't ever hear about here. Great stuff.
Absolutely agree with you on the size of the league. We have the same thing in my native Denmark, and apparently it's because higher quality of the teams in the national league prepare the best teams better for performing in the international tournaments. I think that's bollocks tbh. When the league isn't better than it is, in any of our cases here, why not make them bigger and get more fans out on the stadiums. Quantity over quality any day, and so what if a team wins 5-1 now and then, nothing wrong with that. Great vid, once again :)
I'm starting to think that we need to create regional superleagues, get rid of the Champion's League, and instead adopt a US style play-off system at the end of the season between these regional leagues. It feels like too many leagues now are dominated by the ones who regularly get European football, so too many clubs start the season hoping to maybe get table scraps. Maybe if we pulled top clubs together out of a few leagues, the remaining teams would have a more interesting and competitive division and everyone benefits
Brought back a lot of memories. My second away game was a pre-season friendly there following Newcastle in 1991. Similiar looking day and the ground has barely changed. Felt so special at the time. (Dunfermline the summer before too).
Was there that day. From memory Morton and Newcastle fans were all in the home end, Ardiles was the NUFC manager, David Hopkins, who later played for Leeds, Chelsea and Palace, scored for Morton. And Mikey Quinn was playing for Newcastle!
Dont have any Scottish blood in me. Never even been to Scotland but Hamilton Accies has always been my Scottish club because I bought them in Subbuteo about 50 years ago. Football does strange things to people.
it's weird; my BIL, mum and dad all went to Hamilton Academy, but support Motherwell. Seems to be standard practice even if you're from Hamilton. Poor Accies
I absolutely detest hamilton. I’m not joking but they honestly have the worst fans in Scotland. They have maybe 1 song and they are known for being not very passionate.
This channel and others like Thogdens, Rory Jennings, West Ham fan TV, Mark Gold bridges and Alice Talks Football are all helping me through a really tough time in my life and my anxiety and mental health , thank you Nieve 😊
Thogden and Rory Jennings’s are helping you? Presumably by making you realise how lucky you are you aren’t them? Never seen such worse takes on football in my life. Glad they’re cheering you up about being yourself. Stick in there mate, don’t be so hard on yourself. Could be worse, you could be Thogden, or even Tory Rory. I know how difficult it is, hope you’re getting the help you need.
@@StoutProper thats fair enough that your not a fan of Thogden and Rory, I just feel that they are amazing channels and watching these youtubers in general has helped me alot, amd im hopefully going to get some councelling soon, but thank you mate
You have absolutely nailed it. The top league should be 16 teams and everyone should play each other twice. More emphasis on the games and scarcity value applied to derbies. Great video.
I used to work a job that involved a lot of air travel, and I frequently went through the international terminal in Atlanta on my way to Orlando. The plane was full of English and Scots going to Orlando on vacation, and I was only able to understand about 30% of what the Scotts said, which was embarrassing since they were also speaking a variety of English. They didn't seem to have any problems at all understanding my Southern drawl. Listening to those speaking in this video reminded me of those times.
I'm in England and Scotland is only 400 miles up the road from me but I can have trouble understanding the Scottish accent. They do talk very quickly. It's not such a problem with better educated Scots. My best friend at school was Scottish but after a time I acclimatised to his accent and then didn't even notice it.
I'm a Rangers season ticket holder but Morton are my " local " team, being they are the closest pro club to wear I grew up, about 15 mile from Greenock, so I always keep an eye on them and get to a few games each year. The hospitality at Morton is brilliant value for money, I really am fond of the club. Especially coming from a town that is known for being a Celtic town. 👍🏻🏴
Crazy.. imagine if it wasn’t a Celtic town. And everyone from that town actually supported Morton 😂. Scotland’s the worst glory hunting country in the world
We all want more teams in the Premiership but the clubs themselves don't. Why? because so many clubs love it when Rangers and Celtic come to town and they get a cash injection from away supporters. My club St Johnstone recently had a backlash from our home fans for moving all fans to the main stand, even season ticket holders. Then they gave Rangers the 3 other stands and they filled them. It was a slap in the face to the fans because it felt like you're at an away match, there was no home advantage. The club didn't care about the result, it was about the money at the gate. If we increased the numbers then you decrease the times Rangers or Celtic come to your ground.
Went yo Glasgow for 3 months and ended up living there for 15 years. And to avoid the whole sectarian element I followed St Mirren..... The away trips were epic!!! The guys following them were incredible..... Great times!!! It was like stepping back in time to how football used to be.... None of the Corporate shite..... Just pure fitba, pies and alcohol
I appreciate where you are coming from saying the league needs to be expanded… however our league is run by the Septic and the the rangers… in Political terms they are the north Korean dictatorship of football in our country and wouldn’t allow competition or excitement in our game unless it benefits their pockets.
When comes the Pegg Ancestry Test to see if you're Scottish or Irish? :D Great content as always. I can't wait for the new season to finally come around. Greetings from the Regensburg area!
Amazing! Thanks for sticking around! That is actually a brilliant idea about the ancestry test, if there’s just 1% Scottish I’m claiming a local team :D
@@stuntpeggnievePersonally speaking, I have always though Dundee and Dundee Utd or Ayr and Ayr Utd are the next biggest rivalries, after Celtic and Rangers. Though if you can prove me wrong, you are still my northern friend.
@@stuntpeggnieve I note with interest, that you are doing a Pegg Ancestry Test, to see if you are Scottish or Irish? So are you part Scottish or Irish, as well as half Italian and English? Didn't our first team England do well, last weekend, hanging on to that 1-0 lead?
