I begrudgingly take a peak at the Retro NES Edition of the Nintendo 3DS XL released in 2014. Main Channel: @ScottTheWoz Twitter: / scottthewoz Facebook: / scottthewoz Instagram: / scottthewoz
I always disliked those shirts. So dorky. It's cool if you like them, but I would rather show my dorkiness in other areas than just wear it on a shirt.
The designs looking upside down when opened was the reason I held back from replacing my base small 3DS for a while. When that Zelda edition came out I got it immediately. It's perfect. The Triforce logo being upside down makes sense for that game so it doesn't look dumb opened or closed!
Sony did the same with the Playstation Classic. The selection of games was eh and the emulation is not great but the box itself is very reminiscent of the original PlayStation packaging.
As soon as he said “this is brand new” in my head I could vividly hear wade yelling in his glorious Australian accent “can you believe no one bought this”. Dankpods is great
Scott's Stash 3DS videos in a nutshell: "This design was so stupid. So I bought it brand new." *opens it* "Wait, this actually is a little cooler than I thought."
The perfect thing to see after diner, Scott Stash Notification I still think that the best 3DS variant is the Year Of Luigi 3DS xl, European edition. The one America got sucks
bought one of these second hand, the previous owner never signed in to a nintendo account, and their ambassador program certificate (allowing the GBA downloads) had not been tied to account/console. very cool when i did a transfer to a n2ds xl , the certificate came along to the new system and i sold the NES edition
I love that even though it's specifically themed around A Link Between Worlds with the black bottom to match that game's logo, it looks like a general Zelda design that could fit any Zelda fan even if they don't like that particular game
I remember being an early teen when all these special 3DS models started coming out and I wanted every one of them. Such a shame they're all so rare and expensive now.
The part around 14:51 with the design being flipped when its open and seen by other people reminded me of Apple's Macbooks which had the Apple logo flipped at some point for a similar reason so the logo is the right side up while its open.
This definitely isn’t as good as the NES GBA or the SNES New 3DS, but this is my current 3DS that’s been with me for years so I have a soft spot for it
After watching your video. Knowing nothing about this DS beforehand. I think it is designed to be put next to the packaging box. Thus having a console(box) and a controller(DS)
I remember when Japan and Austrailia already had the New 3DS and everyone else wanted to know when we would get it in North America, Nintendo basically went "buy more 3DSs lol" and gave us this. then two months later New 3DS actually comes out in america and europe
@@Jacadac and then 2015-2016 happened where North America started getting everything months after everyone else already had it, like Yoshi's Woolly World
Great vid. I have the 8bitdo Famicom style N30 controllers for Switch, they look exactly like the originals / the micro, they are great. Hoping they become collector items bc they were discontinued.
My favorite part of this channel is that I get to tell my family that this ABSOLUTE UNIT has so many Wii U consoles and games that he essentially has a monopoly on the Wii U market and will probably own the last surviving Wii U
You're echoing exactly how I felt at the time. I was so mad, because I loved the NES GBA design, and with this one they just put no effort into it. Literally they could have just copied what they did with the GBA and it would have been a homerun.
There was a famicom SP that was controller themed on the inside (with a gold plate), but it was much rarer and more expensive than the regular famicom one
"What would a modern NES edition look like?" Honestly when he said that what immediately came to mind was a design based off of the New-Style NES that you don't see used as often, it would've been pretty cool for them to make a nod towards that. (The more slim top loader version.)
watching this is the equivalent of watching dorah the explorer as an adult, you know what it’s about but you still wanna watch it even if it’s fake (talking about the carpet setup)
That retro NES 3DS XL is what brought me back to Nintendo handhelds. I was at the Nintendo NY store, about to buy a 2DS for Smash Bros 3DS when it launched and I saw that retro NES design. It was the console design details like the AV outs on the box that sold me, the ugly 3DS was just OK. LOL
I bought the SNES Edition of the 3DS XL a few months ago since the 3DS eShop is shutting down soon. Anyone else bought the Retro Edition of the 3DS XL before the eShop closes?
This was my first 3ds i ever had, got in on release in 2014, opened a line of credit with gamestop to buy it lol. was sure fuckin disappointed to find out that the new 3ds was to be released a few months later in feb 2015.
I think that in those editions it would have been wise to include free games from the consoles whose aesthetics were emulated, in addition to some visual theme for the menu. It is worth clarifying that the SNES design would not have made sense to apply to the Old 3DS/XL since these consoles could not run those 16-bit games correctly. 🤦🏻♂️
The Japan and eu Super Nintendo design lends itself to the retro handheld thing much better than the US one. I have the Australian one and the cover plate looks nicer IMO - and the four coloured face buttons are just great compared to “purple” and “lighter purple”. I agree with your ranking overall but I’d put the Japan or EU new 3Ds at the top if it was included
