In an AU the plan work perfectly. Miguel stayed in El Dorado while Tulio got away with the gold. They never saw each other again. They both died from old age, one as a benevolent God in the Golden City, the other one as a wealthy merchant in a fine Villa in Spain. They both wished they have said goodbye.
Never once in my childhood did i realise how amazing this song was. I thought people must be stupid not to say goodbye to their friends. It's only now that i'm older that i understand what a truly wonderful and meaningful song this is ( and sadly very true)
In french, there is an "adieu" (a "goodbye for ever") and an "aurevoir", (like "see you soon"). The French version is playing on this "ne dis jamais adieu ce n'est qu'un aurevoir" (Never say "goodbye for ever", this is only a "see you soon") I think the French one express the feelings a better way than in English. Both voices and lyrics are awesome though!
Played this at my graduation with all my friends, both graduating and our friends who were a year before us. We sat in our game club room that we all started, from over 40 members to the last 6 founders, we sat there for a while and played this as we were turning off all the computers and unplugging them for storage. We all had a feeling that the club wasn't going to bounce back the next year for those who were staying. So we all sat down and left the last 6 computers and we all played the game that got us together since middle school, minecraft. We all built a beacon and put all our names and gamer tags on it and turned it on with this song in the background. Then we all gave our hugs and left. I'll miss my group and I hope we could all get back together one day.

The Road to El Dorado should be more well known than it is. I mean it has a lot of iconic quotes, it’s funny as hell, and it has some really great action! Miguel and Altivo will forever be my favorite characters from this movie, not to mention Bibo the armadillo.

I remember when I figured out the title of this song, it's so true too, friends never say good bye. Unless they change their mind about being a god, jump on the ship with you, and save a bunch of people from conquerors. Unless that happens.
The chorus reminds me of my dog.. He fell ill while I was at uni. When I found out that he was getting worse, I drove 200 miles to see him. He was in a bad way, but he perked up a little when he saw me. Those hours at the vet were his last, but I'm glad I was there... before he went I told him "Don't worry bud, it's never really goodbye, is it?" ... I miss that goofball, one of the purest souls I ever met. Rest in perfect peace my dear friend.
It gives me a special warming comfort in my thoughts when I watch movies, and shows from my childhood and memories. It brings a joyful tear to my eye. I wish most people could experience this feeling, sadly some people do not understand.
Hi if you are there i can feel that .when i was a teen i was like meh these shows are for babies. I wanna see cool stuff . But when i grew maybe 20 i rewached lots of my childhood shows that i loved included this movie. When i saw it again a felt so warm and i felt like a girl watching her favorite shows that all the magic still there. The magic never faded.
YES YES. I just love watching the old movies and series. I feel i never grew up bcoz animated shows or movies just have this spark that no live action can produce. People just say animation is for kids and i am like suuuuuure it is, but it doesnt stop you from watching it ya know

when i graduated last year from high school and heard this song when I was watching El Dorado during the summer I started to cry so much. I remembered all the of my friends that helped so much during those 4 years and got scared that I would be forgotten by them, but they didn't so I always put a smile on when I listen to this :)

We do forgive no matter what, those are the friends we had best time ever... just that sometimes it's amazing that we can fight with others and pass over insults so easy but when it comes to best friends... things change dramatically, it's like betrayal on a different level... maybe because we open to them thinking this is it, and when changes happen it hurts our judgment, our confidence, our trust... well, now I'm over analyzing ehehe. Because you wouldn't expect a close friend to hurt you like that. They're supposed to have your best interest in mind. You chose to let that person in your life for a reason, so it hurts when they shatter that image after years and years of friendship. I hope you find that person some day because everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Hahahaha, it's fine. ~
That's a good one. And I agree to agree with what you said. I do truly hope that you find that person some day as well if you didn't already. Just for the argument sake if that's ok with you: So it comes down to 'Expectations'. Why do we expect different behavior in our friends? What do we see in them so it makes us separate them from so many people so we give that opportunity to shatter that image and hurt us so much? Why risk when we know there is a chance to be hurt but still somehow expect or hope or not even try think that won't happen? Sorry if I'm bothering, didn''t have this type of convo for long time. :)

The song was always heartbreaking, because even though Miguel and Tulio were going their separate ways they would still be friends forever. Although i found the circumstances of their separation to be stupid, well at least the going back to Spain part of it Miguel's choice to stay in El Dorado was the best option because in Spain Tulio and Miguel were wanted criminals but in El Dorado they were gods and heroes. But since they both had different points of view Miguel couldn't force Tulio to stay and Tulio couldn't force Miguel to leave.

I am currently around 2-3 months from graduating and ever since around winter break, I have been dreading it. It was my long term goal ever since about 2nd grade, but since then I have found a great group of friends. it dawned on me that once graduation is over, summer break will happen and my good friends are all going to go to different colleges, while I stay here in the state I was born in. Eventually it brought me to this song where for the first time ever I am understanding the meaning of a song like this. If you guys ever read this. I hope you guys come back every once in a while. My only brother whom I consider my best friend is leaving for boot camp tonight. I'm proud that he'll be a coast guard, but it's going to be really hard saying goodbye to him. This movie is one of our favorites.

I teared up watching this as a kid, I didn't see the funny parts during this scene, I just saw the fact that two friends were about to walk away from each other forever and the music really drove that home.
I remember constantly listening to this during my last years of High School, thinking who’s gonna be there for me after the years of me being their friend. Who’s gonna be by my side when i need them most even after everything? Turns out nobody. The Hot Summer days were lonely and constantly seeing the sun rise over the tree line i still think of those who left me. (Update from another video with this song) it was back in 2016 since I graduated and i was 22 when i made that comment ^^ i’m 25 now, since then my friends have been gone, and never been the same. They only message when they need something or if i make contact to talk first it’s gotten to a point where it doesn’t even phase me anymore to care if they want to talk with me anymore because i know they don’t care enough for me the same way anymore since then. Here comes the typical “that’s life” comment though hey? And that is most definitely right Makes me wonder why they are still around. Maybe the day is coming.. “well.. good luck. Yeah.. you too.” Where that will happen. This movie, this song brings back one beautiful memory- Watching it with someone very special- and now that's all I have. Just that beautiful memory.
