All right. Here's the plan. In the dead of night, you and I grab some provisions, hijack one of those... one of those longboats... and then, we... row back to Spain like there's no mañana!
+Faelan L Yup, absolutely gorgeous art direction and animation, and a relatively light-hearted story that doesn't take itself as seriously as typical Disney fare.

"Back to Spain, yeah? In a rowboat?" "Yeah, that's pretty much it." "Well I like it. So, how do we get on deck?" *Bats eyelashes* "Okay, in the dead of night, you and I hijack one of those longboats..."
@@purpleblastoise The spaniards were oppressors, no doubt about it at all. But so were the Aztecs, and a bunch of rebelling tributary states were counting on Cortez to help them overthrow the Aztecs. Meaning that if Cortez and his indigenous allies got as far as the Aztec capital before being defeated, the shitshow to follow would have been ugly, Better if Cortez and his mob were speared straight after getting off their ships, so none of the poor oppressed tribes could be implicated in the invasion. Too bad, then, that it was the poor and oppressed tribes that Cortez first met!
This film was so amazing. Don't understand why people say it's not a good movie. I'll certainly remember this movie for years to come. Along with Prince of Egypt and Joseph King of Dreams, this is a masterpiece.
My partner and I climbed the pyramids at Teotihuacan and literally sang this song over and over the entire climb up the tallest pyramid. I don't think I would have made it all the way to the top without this song!
Thats really awesome to hear. To be fair this movie reminds me of the love I had for travelling and seeing new places as a kid and I hope to do more in the future. Glad you had that kind of lively spirit still later on in life and did amazing stuff like that.
I think the critics looked at it as what came before it, you follow up films like those to those of 90's Disney, these were filled with less child humor, that's why they were ranked badly
This Atlantis Sinbad Treasure Planet Spirit The Prince of Egypt EDIT 1: Can't believe I forgot Brother Bear! Thanks guys! EDIT 2: HOW COULD I FORGET THE IRON GIANT?!? I love them all equally. EDIT 3: I remember disliking Joseph King of Dreams, not sure why! Just didn't think it was that powerful, because I probably kept comparing it to The Prince of Egypt. I should give it a try again. :-)
YOU MAKE ME CRY ALANTIS Milo x kida Treasue planet GOTTA LOVE MORPH AND B.E.N Spirit Get off of my back Prince of Egypt Let my people go And I only watch half of Simba and I couldn't find the movie again
Snuse Mcgoose everything. It’s slower, the instruments are all studio brit-pop-mixed versions of the compositions of the movie and it doesn’t capture the fun adventure feel of any song besides *MAYBE* Without Question. Also none of these official movie versions are streamable.
@@eli14c I'm very fortunate you put this comment in 4 hours ago cause I was wondering the same thing. Is there a version that has no sound effects but is the same as how it is in the movie?
@@Lumacosy I know its been 8 months since you asked this, but the only versions on Spotify are covers or the "Official Soundtrack" which has the non movie versions. Soundcloud gives the option for users to upload their own songs, so you can find most of the one you want over there
I have a friend who's identical to Miguel, since realising this, our bucket list dream is to one day dye my hair black, tie it behind and go an adventure with this music playing :)
The chills, the nostalgia.. This never gets old! And has gotten yet another meaning to me now that I've become familiar with the Uncharted games and learned to love them. This song and especially the first game go hand in hand if you think about it that way.
The Trail We Blaze Lyrics Look out new world here we come Brave, intrepid, and then some Pioneers of maximum audacity whose résumés Show that we are just the team To live where others merely dream Building up a head of steam On the trail we blaze Changing legend into fact We shall ride into history Turning myth into truth We shall surely gaze On the sweet unfolding Of an antique mystery All will be revealed On the trail we blaze Paradise is close at hand Shangri-La The Promised Land Seventh Heaven on demand Quite unusual nowadays Virgin vistas undefiled Minds and bodies running wild In the man, behold the child On the trail we blaze The trail we blaze Is a road uncharted Through terra incognita to a golden shrine No place for the traveller to be faint-hearted We are part of the sumptuous grand design Changing legend into fact We shall ride into history Turning myth into truth We shall surely gaze On the sweet unfolding Of an antique mystery All will be revealed On the trail we blaze
They came out around the same time and in fact emperors new groove was going to have a completely different plot and story but Road to el dorado beat it to the punch and they had to scrap the entire first idea of the movie and landed on the llama idea
Shrek, El Dorado, Madagascar, Spirit, Shark Tale, Prince Of Egypt, Antz, Sinbad: LOTSS, etc. Dreamworks was *REALLY* in their prime in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Turning Legend into Fact We shall ride into history Turning myth into truth We shall surely gaze On the sweet unfolding Of an antique mystery All will be revealed…on the trail we blaze! I’d sing this as a kid whenever we’d go hiking, thinking the woods were an undiscovered wilderness. Me and my brain.
@@nathancruz9172 Watched it for the first time 6 days ago… and have watched it six times since This movie just has a magic and heart about it I can’t explain with the music, imagery, characters and… Chel 😏😉
Daniel Mikeworth el dorado IS the City of Gold... Dust, Brick, Nuggets.... A TEMPLE where you can pluck gold from the very walls but you don’t want to go so let’s get in the boat and go back to Spain. After all it worked SOOO well last time.
"Woah, woah, woah, woah, wait. New plan. We FIND the city of gold....we TAKE the gold and THEN we go back to Spain-" "And buy Spain! C'mon Tulio- let's follow the trail!" "..What trail?" *cutting plants* "The Trail that we blaze!" *reveals rock wall* "...." *points different direction* "That trail that we blaze!"
i've alyaws found myself boppin to this movie! i love the little florishes in the song, like the spanish guitar, the tradional drums thundering in the background, this song just makes me frigging happy!
First saw this movie in a thrift shop as a kid. It was just playing on one of those old gigantic and fat TVs. While our mom was shopping, we just kind of gravitated to it cuz of the music, and I remember we quite literally begged our mom to let us stay for just 10 more minutes so we could finish it. We had seen nearly all of the movie and we weren’t about to leave at the last moment. Well, one angry mother later, we left incredibly pouty as we weren’t allowed to finish it. Then it suddenly showed up at my grandmothers place a year later, where all sorts of magically random things show up and I had incredible amounts of nostalgia and excitement rush over me. Still one of my absolute favorites to this day.
my favorite movies as a kid in order from first to last; Treasure Planet, Sinbad, Eldorado, Atlantis: the lost empire, Tarzan. I'm 16 now and I still watch these movies on a regular basis.
There were a lot of good songs from my childhood, but none ever impacted me like the ones from The Road to El Dorado. Just the sheer scale that this song in particular brings is beyond words, when listening to this you can feel like you're on a grand journey.
i got shivers and smiles from listening to this. makes me feel like a kid again and enjoying movies like this. The Prince of Egypt Joseph King of dreams Sinbad Treasure Planet The Lion King The Road to El Dorado Atlantis all of it! loved it all and i plan to watch them all again.

This movie deserves more credit than it should. The colors and effects are so aesthetically pleasing even twenty-two years later! Another pro is that the story is great; I really love the fact that DreamWorks decided to take something so sullen and depressing and put their own little spin on it. I actually really enjoyed the voice acting; Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline had such comedic chemistry, and I really think they did a good job casting this movie. Also, who doesn't love a good DreamWorks movie?
This is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. When I was younger, I watched it so many times, I memorized all the lines! And the songs are wonderful. Elton John is brilliant!
+Christopher Allen You think so? I'm not so sure. Rhett (while really tall) is blond, while Tulio has dark hair. Link is smaller, but has dark hair, while Miguel is blond. Do they have the chemistry like Miguel and Tulio? Absolutely, but they'll have to work around that hair color issue.
Can we all , who had the great honor to see moves like, Sinbad (by dream works), spirit, El Dorado and Shrek, make a pact to show these amazing to our children so they can really know what great movies were? Cause I will for sureeeee
soon i want to bring my tablet and play this while I'm driving my sled dogs. it seems like it will pair well with the rhythm of their sleek, powerful bodies plunging through the snow, the pounding of their feet, and the musical jingling of the clasps as they streak through the winding trails.
