Historically speaking, Russia should know never to piss off the Finns or the Swedes again. Both of those countries have humbled Russia before, by themselves.

I love that the excuse they went with was that they weren't violating a neutral country's border with nuclear weapons. They were violating Denmarks... a founding member of NATO. How drunk was the person making up that excuse?

I was told by a costal jäger that was on location they along with the Para jägers where told to wear their berrets so they soviets knew two of the most elite units from the costal artilery (costal jägers) and the army (airborne/Para jägers), It was to detere the men in the coning tower to shot at any defectors. The Costal jäger i spoke with and a few others that was there claimed they had orders if the soviets fired on any defectors they where to shoot to kill (dont know if that is true but guessing how pissed we where, its plusible that order was given)

Sweden agreed in the Cold War to allow RAF V Bombers with their nuclear payloads, to overfly their territory. They also had some runways lengthened, when asked what neutrality meant to them, said ‘we know who we are neutral against’.

It’s worth noting that Sweden actually had a nuclear weapons program at one point in order to ensure its neutrality. They didn’t quite get a warhead made before the USA offered to cover Sweden under the American nuclear umbrella in exchange for the program being scrapped.
