The Sad State of COD Zombies

Loved the restaurant analogy! The sheer passion poured into every map from WaW-BO4 was unreal. Really immersed you into the game and kept you coming back for more

Obviously I want a Tranzit Remaster, or rather a reimagine with all the features that the developers couldn't put during BOII days, like route B, upgraded Jet Gun, Meat, Race etc.

The problem isn't necessarily that it's not enjoyable for certain people, the issue is how this just simply is not Zombies at all, from it's round base game flow to its very foundational mechanics, MW3 Zombies is inherently different from everything that made it popular in the first place. And while game franchises should be allowed be innovate and experiment, when you advertised this to long-term fans, there comes a certain expectation you must meet and this is definitely not it.

EXACTLY. There’s a reason why people like me feel the way I do about modern zombies. I miss when the mode felt distinct and now it just feels like an extension of any other mode in the game.

I started playing zombies by trying my best to survive endless hordes of zombies with limited resources before I would inevitably meet my doom. There was mystery and a sense of hopelessness/loneliness. That's still why I play zombies. It's very simple for me, and nothing will ever make me care about modern zombies in the slightest. Lately, I've been playing a lot of bo1 despite never playing it when I was younger (bo2 was all I knew at the time) and the experience has hit me so hard and it makes me feel like a kid again. I feel nothing from modern zombies, it's just DLC for multiplayer

Zombies no longer has that feel to it. It used to be so much more atmospheric and immersive imo. Need to remove operators if they want people investing in the story, which was part of what got people hooked not just the gameplay.

that sense of defending against impossible odds went away after we could start a game with a full set of perks and paped wonder weapons. it's roots were being able to start off with something stronger than a m1911 or mr6 or any parallel

I would remaster tranzit. It has the most potential out of any map and the 360 held it back.

1:35, weirdly enough "Town" specifically from BO2. I feel like there was a lot of missed opportunities by just being a section of Tranzit, because in my honest opinion it's the most stable and high quality aspect of the base game zombies. I feel like if some modifications were made (lessening or outright just removing the lava) making Pack-A-Punch more of a challenge to get to, and including a higher quality more stable version of the Jet Gun in the mystery box, I feel like the map could be great because even in it's butchered state, it's a decent albeit basic zombies map with a lot of potential.

For me it’s Verruckt, it’s my favorite map pre Blundell. If treyarch could remaster the terror and horror in that map, it would help put the atmosphere back into the game. And I like the variety of zombies modes right now. And we’ll be getting a full treyarch cycle for gulf war, which will be a continuation of Cold War. So that’s all we need going forward

As someone who started with WaW zombies, for a long time I felt the newer games and even Black Ops 3 zombies were kind of a sad state. There was a beautiful simplicity in Pack a Punching guns and the mystery of finding out what mystery attachments or unique functionality they would get. Compare that to BO3 and later where you can set starting weapons and attachments/elementals, and all of that charm and mystery is gone. Lots of little things like that and personal charm like the quirky WaW-BO2 PaP gun names, the horror aesthetic of Verruckt, Ascension, and Mob etc. etc. I think what's happened is zombies as a mode has become too import for Activision's profits and now it's design by committee, rather than the quirky side project that developers did outside of any developer mandate.

Zombies now is easy, back then from waw to bo3 you spawned with a starting pistol, 2 grenades and plenty of ammo. Now you can spawn with a assault rifle or smg. Not to mention the game holds your hand In ww2/Bo4/Bocw/vangaurd/mw3: "do you need help its ok if you mess up, ill be here for you if you need me, I'll hold you hand". in the old games: "Heres a pistol go f yourself oh and goodluck doing the easter egg and its optional"

I can see why so many people miss older zombies. Personally, I can enjoy MW3 zombies. In fact, I really don’t mind any zombies maps or modes (apart from Tortured Path).

People want to feel when they play a video game. They want to soak in the atmosphere, the characters, the setting. It's why a fully functional map like Firebase Z will always pail in comparison to a map like Moon. Even though Moon has more flaws than Firebase Z, it has more emotion, more passion than the entirety of Cold War's maps combined. Modern COD games want to make you feel numb.

The reason zombies fell was because of warzone popularity, unfortunately the devs now pay more attention to warzone due to most of their players come from warzone

think the vanguard map situation with the remakes sums it up well. zombies feels like a side/3rd mode again and on bo1-3 it felt like a seperate game like u said. the care and effort for zombies combined with attention to detail can make it feel like a different game again in treyarchs next game

Funniest part is seeing people online on Twitter and Reddit being Stockholm syndromed by Activision into thinking it's actually good, and then getting mad at everyone else who says its garbage or even mediocre it's really sad to see

I hated tranzit when it first came out, but as time went on I learned the flow of the map and started to really enjoy playing it solo.

Buried because it'd be fun to see with newer mechanics and new ideas put into it. Plus, never got to play it on BO2

The new season of MWZ is utter dogsh*t. Literally the worst thing I've ever played. It's literally the same boss as act 3, but with even more health, so alone you can't kill him, and they completely broke his attack, the orbs that he shoots one shot you. That's literally all the content. The exact same boss, in a "new" area.

Im sad that activision has taken treyarchs success and ran it through the ground causing the creative minds to leave the studio…… treyarchs rise and fall is so sad because of the fact that it’s never about the bad things they did but the great things that they did for the franchise and how it led them to become a literally damage control studio. Zombies in space land is the best non treyarch map and my personal favourite map of all time it’s just so different from regular zombies and unique in the fact you can unlock David Hasselhoff as a playable character that’s the best thing they could’ve added actually cool Easter egg rewards

Modern zombies just doesn’t feel right…I can enjoy it sometimes sure I enjoyed Cold War and the dark at her story is definatly intresting sometimes but…there’s something missing that makes it stand out it . Idk if it’s the focus on realism rather than substance or fantastical elements idk. Or the fact that games in. General take up a lot of space and sometimes for some games it feels like it’s all visuals and spectical rather than something lovingly crafted.

To answer your question, I would remaster motd and leave everything the way it was on the latest bo2 patch but also fix the bugs. That was the map that got me into high rounding in the first place, all the maps before were fun but motd was THE map that got me to say "I want to play this map for days on end."

Making Zombies in the same universe as everything else is a huge handicap. Big, bold events like Moon, Revelations, and Tag der Toten’s ending are now nearly impossible because the Zombies story needs to be relatively contained to fit in.

I feel like they should turn zombies into more of a campaign. Imagine if in bo1 when you teleport into one of those random rooms you would have to find a code, or some sort of key that would unlock that giant door on the stage. And past that door was a helicopter or something with the crew waiting to take you to the pentagon, its a very shotty plot but you get my point. The thing that always made zombies special to me was the mystery and lack of information as to why im here and what to do next

The focus on the zombies storyline completely ruined the game. Rather than it being an Easter egg, it became the entire focus of the game and instead of just being a mode where you could hop on and try to get to a high round with your friends, the game became a bloated and over complicated mess. If they want to make zombies great again, they have to ditch the story aspect of it, or at least push it to the side and not have it be the main focus.

@Rushin Actual Doctor Zombies is a small channel but he is hitting the zombie nostalgia train hard and daily. Recommend checking him out bc he has really good analysis on stuff.

It just doesn’t have the same drive like trying to beat those little numbers you had previously gotten. I know that’s just a small aspect but it doesn’t make you drive to keep progressing and trying to find new things or try to beat your previous personal performance.

Kino. Remastered with a few EEs to find, and maybe even an added part to the map. I LOVE what they did with nacht on cold war. That was an amazing remake

i'd love to see Verruckt done again. It was a simple map but there is a few reasons it was one of the hardest maps of the WaW days. I'd love to see a more claustrophobic, hallway based zombies map in modern zombies (cold war or MW3). As soon as Activision realizes a lot of their hardcore zombies fans are genuine masochists, the sooner we all win.

Tranzit, because I'd like to see the idea fully fleshed out on capable hardware that can actually run it.

also the newer zombies doesnt have the "survivor" aspect. The approach is more of you are apart of the military just hulling down the zombie population, which isnt nearly as fun as being a survivor that somehow made it through the impossible, even escaping earth and going to the moon.

When I was 12 I got my hands on Black Ops 1. I could not handle the zombie menu I was scared as hell.

The new season 1 cutscene for act4 in mw3 is actually pretty good it was scary and had some action had u asking questions Treyarch starting to give me hope for 2024

Truthfully I’ve been playing loads of tranzit games over the last few weeks mostly with online randoms. My census is it’s an easy map that people don’t know how to play.

Most campaigns I play twice and MP I play about twice a year so I don't care about reused assets like most people. I know I'm a minority, but still another perspective in the community. I only buy CoD for zombies, besides Vanguard because no. But as a zombie only player I definitely enjoy each iteration for it's own work. IW, WW2 and BO4 are genuinely my favourite iterations but all 3 for entirely different reasons. I'm a day 1 BO2 player and I'm really enjoying MWZ. I know I always have my old maps to enjoy, but I try to keep an open mind about change. Change is inevitable unfortunately so can't stay close-minded if you want to continue enjoying games as you get older. Sure I definitely do miss paying $15 for a well worked on DLC, but I also understand things can't always be the same. That said, we all enjoy life differently and on our own paths. Not everybody HAS to like the same things in order for things to be successful. It's all a matter of perspective. And ego. Obviously nobody has to care about what I typed, but to jump the gun, this is a social media comment section made specifically for expressing opinions and ideas. You don't like it, I don't care. I like it. And only my opinion matters to me.

Haven't played or watched zombies content in years. I think this video really explained well why zombies is dead, and i think ever since BO4 came out the game mode started to get stale as shit. WaW, BO1 and BO2 all had great zombies, BO3 was the peak of zombies and it sucks that it's never gonna get to that point ever again. Never even bothered buying BO4, CW or Vanguard.

They need to also separate the ranking system from multiplayer. I liked being master prestige in bo3 and bo4 lol.

Imagine somehow they bring back the past and zombie with the original gang is back but the gameplay is a tad different with extra ways to step the game into a whole new challenge Say you put a item on that allows you the start the game with all the perks but when you go down for the first time you lose 3 perks and can’t get them back ever and then on the second down you lose all the others and can’t buy them at all unless solo then you can get quick revive I think that would be cool or you start with a upgraded gun of your choice but now the upgrade machine cost double for you stuff like that

I've been playing zombies since World@War was out & Verruckt just dropped.. Honestly after BO2 Zombies I just lost interest, I only play BO3 custom now.

Mw3 with loads of zombies looked kinda cool. Then they reduced the amount of zombies that spawn in at once and ruined it. Plus 2 day real world cooldowns in a full priced AAA game

I think one of the appeals of the old Zombies was absolutely the setpieces. The maps had such variously different settings, and Treyarch usually used to release them right next to one another so it was pleasantly jarring to have a new experience. From an asylum to a swamp, a jungle to the friggin moon, a skyscraper to LITERAL ALCATRAZ, each actually felt unique and that's where the charm was

With what they've done with DMZ, they could easily remake Tranzit, get rid of all the annoying features that limit the player's abilities, add more convenient features (like launchpads maybe) and generally make what Jimmy Z WANTED to have, to revitalize his vision and make it reality I know Tranzit, Die Rise and Buried are all being remastered by very dedicated creators (including creative directing from Lex for Die Rise) but if Treyarch wanted to remaster Tranzit, take out the DMZ story and make what Jimmy wanted 10 years ago, they would not only redeem themselves, but also get LOADS of people back to playing zombies

The modern zombies games all get a large asterisk as they were made in half the time or less of a normal COD game. Cold War had less than half the development time of BO3 and half of that time was hindered due to covid. It came out really well given that. Also, Activision put pressure on Treyarch to standardize zombies with other modes to bring in new players. Love it or hate it, it's working and new players are coming.

I would remaster MOTD. 1 to 1 remaster, no added areas or story. It's an amazing amazing map only held back by the BO2 mechanics. Don't get me wrong I love BO2 so much and MOTD on it is awesome but I never go back to play it because I've gotten so used to the new health system that the 2 hit system makes it too difficult. Also, you have to speedrun high rounds. I'd keep all the BO2 guns, sounds, the old double pack system, the graphics maybe, even the movement but them small things withdraw me from revisiting one of the best maps ever made.

Yeah ok we all want round based but not if its going to play like mw3 cold war vanguard bo4 only if its simplifeid! A solid game no wepon drops no silly objectives no zombie health bars. I just play BO3 zombies, it never dies.

Cod zombies was never meant to be a long lasting thing. After all, It's not even its own game. All the OG youtubers have moved on and make other content. Eventually the records for all the maps will be forgotten and the gamemode will be only played by the most die hard fans in a few years from now. Zombies content doesn't attract nearly as much attention as it once did 8 years ago because the playbase is so small now. Playstation players don't have access to WAW-BO2 and people are tired of playing the same BO3 maps.

Modern Warfare Zombies doesnt look horrible but its just not zombies to me. I dont mind having a open world zombies mode but completely shelving round based at launch for a mode that doesnt even capture what made me love the mode in the first place is a big no no to me. Plus yeah zombies doesn't have the personality it once did and making the zombies storyline canon with the campaign universe is the biggest mistake of all time cuz now zombies doesn't feel like its own thing separate from that universe like it did from WaW to BO4. Like victis is more interesting than every new character they introduce lol and the only character i care about in this new universe (Samantha) i feel they treating her bad like she's definitely nerfed in terms of power and it seems like she might become bad guy again which i didnt want at all knowing all the shit she went through since WaW at this point she should of had a good ending.
