Kai You i'm basically in the same situation. To put it simple I really love this one girl and she made me smile every day. We dated and stuff and eventually she was not interested anymore and decided to end it. I feel so lost without her and it sucks. It's very painful especially since it was the only real friend I had. The cause for actual pain is that after something extreme either psychological or physical, the body is producing an immense amount of stress hormones which then can cause negative reactions to your heart. So a friendship can definitely be a cause for that. This syndrome is not related to any specific thing. It could even be the loss of something you value like a an object.

I have felt this pain before. When you loved someone so much, and one day it ends, your heart hurts, time feels like it stopped for a moment, and days feel so long. I too thought that things were going so well. My ex and I dated for almost 2 years. Eventually, you learn a lot from the break up. Word of advice, don't force yourself to be happy. If you do, you're really just hurting yourself even more. To be truly happy, you'd learn to move on and accept that everything happens for a reason. It will always be a lesson of learning. I am in another relationship now, but it took me a while to move on before getting into another relationship. You don't always need get into another relationship to be happy. It's always nice to bring positivity here. :) It may take time to move on, but you will soon learn to see what's better for yourself. Eventually you'll find someone new and maybe even be happier than the last relationship. If not, you can love yourself as in making sure to take care of your needs. Don't forget those around you that still care for you. Life goes on, and so do we.

I am probably replying too late but I am almost going through the same thing. I met this guy who broke up with his girlfriend of 4 years (they lived together for 3) a month before we met. I broke up with my ex too because I wasn't in love anymore (yeah, broke his heart too...) so when we met, it was pure attraction. We became friends with benefits and everything was good, but then we started spending time together and the months past. At the end we would meet and not even sleep together, we would do normal things like cooking, working out, going to the theater. And eventually we talked about it and we stated that I was going in the same direction, we were beginning to feel like we could at some point start a relationship but we wanted to wait. Then one day he comes to me and tells me that he can't be with me and give me a serious relationship right now, so he kept his distance for a week. Then he came back and we tried it again as before and then finally he admitted to me that he wanted to try it with his ex again. So puff.. Everything disappeared as if it were nothing. Aand I am so sad, we shared so many good things we laughed together all the time, we did stupid things together and I truly had hope... But he was just thinking about her this whole time....i just want the pain to be over
