My husband and I drove it a good chunk of the way of our trip going from Boston to Reno for Burning Man a couple of months ago. It is fucking long, especially once you get outside of the East Coast.
Instantly this reminds me of the convience store. This is a good thing, one of my favourites you've done. Love these "night shift alone at a normal location" horror games.
Rt. 80--A perfect road on which to spawn a world-demolishing race of supernatural beings. They'd feel right at home. 😆🤣 Decent game. It was fun, as always, to watch you play it. To answer your question, Chris, U.S. Route 80 was originally a cross-country highway which traversed the Southern States from Tybee Island, GA, to San Diego, CA. By the early 1990s, the entire segment west of Dallas, TX, had been decommissioned. I've driven parts of it many times.
In my research as a non American but a cartographer interested in stuff like this that you are the only one with the correct answer. The rest are saying interstate-80 which I believe is different to a route, officially at least? Routes seem to be more historic and often take the scenic 'route'?
@@garrymcdonald5456 You are correct. Many people in these comments are confusing Route 80 with Interstate 80(I-80). Scriptor13 is right about Route 80 crossing the Southern States. Other people commenting are confusing the two and saying Route 80 goes from New Jersey to California but that is actually I-80 which sounds similar but is very different. You hear people describe routes as scenic but interstates, not so much. Interstates are more about getting you from Point A to Point B as fast as possible, which can be quite helpful since America is such a large country. If I'm not pressed for time I prefer taking scenic routes over freeways(interstates) because you get to see more of the beauty of America.
@@garrymcdonald5456 Thank you for noticing, Garry.😊 You're correct, there is a historical difference between Interstate roads and Routes, both in purpose and funding. Because the game was named "Route 80," I assumed that's what the devs meant. I must admit, however, that just now as I read in the video description, "somewhere, deep in the American wheat belt," I'm thinking the devs may not know the difference either. 😅 While the wheat belt in America does extend to where U.S. Route 80 was/is, more of it would be where Interstate 80 is. So, who knows? 🤣 Nice to meet a cartographer! I've always loved maps and I prefer using them to GPS.
@@jakebiassa Thanks, Samantha! You're so right about all of it. 😊 I agree 100% about preferring to take the slower and more scenic routes over Interstate roads (freeways) when time isn't of the essence. This is _such_ a beautiful country!
@@jakebiassa Yes The Interstates were originally created so that the armed forces could get from one side of the country to the other in 3 days by going 70 mph. So yea, point a to point b as fast as possible. They made the old trucker routes like route 80 obsolete and a lot of them were broken up over the years. We still have old 3C highway (Rt 22) here, so called because it connected Cincinati, Columbus and Cleveland and Rt 42 does the same thing but I 71replaced them
Loved this. These types of games are amongst my favorites regarding horror. Love when games make you play a familiar role and twisting it to the max. There's something about the analogue/liminality horror scene that hits just right. Plus the old graphics textures and styles just add to the nostalgia and profundity of making a good story immerse you.
I felt like the game could continue. Especially considering there is a house that has yet to be explored. Overall it is a good game/demo that I would like to see more of.
Hey fellow cultists, let's build some suspicious altar in the center of the cornfield and wait for some idiot who will make for us whole ritual. What could possibly go wrong? Had a lot of fun watching it.
I grew up about 30 miles north of I-80 in Pennsylvania. It splits the state in half north-south. Crosses the whole contiguous US, too. Very well known freeway.
It's so enraging when you find blood in your (previous) trashed place of work, have a motorbike and can but say that it is, indeed, "My motorbike..." only to bring about the end of the world. May we continue with some more "A Plague Tale: Requiem" please Chris?
It's 12:30 in the night here, whr i am. It's cold here n the sounds are silent in the hallways outside. I am in my bed covered in my blankets. Now i see a new upload, a new horror to watch. It's creeping inside
I think the title may be a misnomer, most likely it's meant to refer to Interstate 80 which is one of the main east-west highways across the entire country. Pretty cool short experience, though as CJU said a bit inexplicable on the part of the protag. Sweet Crash Bandicoot shirt too dude!
Man if you were a character in a horror game, the title will be "Can I Leave?" Mind you there would a lot of fourth walls broken, it would still be the best.
(As you are working your shift, strange hauntings start happening) Protagonist: Let's perform a dark demonic ritual using these human skulls I have been finding! Nobody can say this employee has watched opportunity pass them by! lol
As soon as I see the store is trashed, I break the mop and rally in the storage room until dawn. Whatever comes thru that door is getting speared in the face with the mop!
You must have great eyesight, describing things you see while I’m looking at a pitch black screen😂! And I thought being a Vampire (working Night Shift) I had good vision in the dark
A sensible horror game protagonist would have called the police when a vehicle showed up with no driver, but a seat covered in blood. Another interesting foray into the retail world in hell. So glad I’m not working retail anymore. Thanks, Chris!
Well, Interstate 80 is a highway that stretches from California to New York, I believe. It is the longest contiguous roadway in the US, as far as I know. And it's very busy, over most of it's length.
Idk about route 80, but I live nearby route 66 which is one of the most famous highways in the US. I wonder if there will ever be a horror game centered around it. Might be fun. Anyway, I love these convenience store horror games. As someone who grew up with trucker parents, I'm used to viewing them as welcoming respites while traveling abroad. So these games are more 'creepy comfy', as The Librarian would put it, for me.
What happened to THE PLAGUE REQUIME? 15 Hour game and you tease us with 1 hour only ? I've been Stopping myself from watching the Full 14 hour video of it here on YT... how come you keep playing these Indy games again Chris ?
@@OEDODRAGON this one was ok but Most are terrible and give me a headache going back in time 30 years.. 16Bit should have been left in the Backrooms 😁🙉🙊🙈 /Especially today with THOUSANDS of Great Qaulity free and Cheap as games on Twitch
@@QIKUGAMES-QIKU I hate how many games have graphics from the 90's when we have the technology to make games beautiful, even indie games. The Unreal Engine is more than capable of creating beautiful looking games but developers keep making really ugly looking ones. I don't see people wanting to watch television in black and white but yet I see a lot of people commenting that they love games that look like they are from 25 or 30 years ago and I don't understand why. I like games to have graphics that are as beautiful as possible as the time we are in will allow but there are so many popular indie games these days that look like Minecraft(in terms of graphics)which I was never impressed with to begin with. Each year graphics get better and better and I love that about games so I'm often surprised when people are so nostalgic for games that look awful(I'm not talking about this game. It's graphics weren't great but not as bad as some). You hear people say they miss PS1 graphics and I don't get it. I also hate the VHS filters so many devs have lately been putting on their games because it almost always adds nothing to the game and just ends up making it look worse.
This was alright, but I feel like you've played this kind of game a dozen times before. I'd be curious to see what the dev(s) come up if they continue to develop the game though.
a cliché-ridden very typical little horror game partly redeemed by the ending would've been nicer without the standard 2m range horror game flashlight and the fact that we as in so many other games were mere passive spectators to the story where our actions never got to influence the ending
