The SHOCKING Execution and Fall of Edward Seymour - The Lord Protector
Following the death of Henry viii, his son despite being just a young boy and having older half sisters came onto the throne. The reign of King Edward VI was supposed to be a long one in which the boy king would grow up and have many children that would succeed him and carry on the Tudor dynasty for centuries to come. But this did not happen as the King died at a young age after being on the throne for just a small number of years. But as he was a boy, he was not allowed to rule on his own, and Henry viii established a regency council to rule on behalf of his son until he became of age. But there was one man on that council of advisors that become the most powerful, and was declared to Lord Protector of England. With this he virtually became the ruler of the country, and Edward Seymour the King’s uncle was incredibly powerful. However he ultimately fell spectacularly from grace, and was overthrown and dragged to Tower Hill where he was beheaded in front of a huge crowd. But what caused his downfall and execution?

@@rickyellis8505 Elizabeth was really bad as well you do realise I think Mary was the nicest out of the three even though she burnt Protestant I think of Edward the 6 would have ended up like his father a monster Mary was known as Bloody Mary and Elizabeth had spilled a lot of blood and she had her cousin killed and idea making people who had strong claims to the throne a living hell so yeah I think Mary was the nicest but overall all three of his children had their evilness to them lol

I can't imagine the Tudor England, so many were executed, all the powerful people and commoners. It must have been chaos, no one was safe, not even the queens and girls. Truly rough times to be born into.

So little Edward must have been racked with guilt, on top of all the stress he was under, at beheading both his uncles. No wonder he was riddled with illnesses and a compromised immune system.

I have read from reliable sources that he was not riddled with guilt. He felt his duty and weight of responsibility in protecting the crown far more than a modern sensibility over what was then a normal political practice.

to be fair, Edward V's uncle had a claim to the throne as third in line after his nephews; Edward VI's two uncles had no royal claim to the throne if their nephew was diposed. But you're right still, Edward VI seemed more willing to get down to business and defend his crown.

Edward Seymour's son, also Edward, was the 1st Earl of Herford, not Edward himself.

One of my great grandfathers, though I think we look more like his nephew, Edward VI, and Jane Seymour. Kinda strange to see some of your family's features in the old paintings. It is through his 1st son who was disowned after his Mother had cheated on Edward Seymour, and he left her for another woman.
