@@italianharly make sure the brake shoes are adjusted so they don't contact inside of the rotor. You may need back off the star adjuster until the rotor goes on.
Thanks for your videos! I just acquired a 72 and it was completely missing the parking brake assembly around both wheels!! You're video allowed me to install a new system from scratch. This video was hugely helpful
Another excellent video! I'm absolutely amazed that the technology for e brakes hasn't advanced one bit since back then. It's the same damn setup with the star adjuster n'everything on a mid 2000's mercedes as it is on your beast. Don't worry about what the guy said about the "um's". Usually that drives me nuts, but I didn't notice because the content was so good. As long as the videos stay this good, I wouldn't worry too much about ums, ahs etc.
I would lube both ends of the star wheel. They both need to turn and not get stuck. I would also punch the old drilled rivets out of the hub so the disc doesn't hang up on one of them.
I note there seem to be still the remains of the rivets on the hub. Is this not potentially an hazard as they could fall off when driving? Thanks for the video
Good question. The rivets on my car weren't going to come out. I tried several times with a drift and hammer. I yours are loose, then remove them. Hey, is that Sid Viscious on your avatar?
@@MikeHammill-TheShop yes, it is Sid speaking (!) I removed all rivets but even after taking the heads off they were hard to push out. I needed a powerful pneumatic hammer. On the rear it is more difficult because of the drum brake, one has to rotate the hub so that the rivet does not shoot into the brake!
How do you install a new stainless steel rear brake actuator 2 piece lever ? Do you have to remove the C-clip at the hinge pin to install lever then try to put the C-clip back on. Don't really want to remove hub spindle to install this. Any help here.
Paul, I've never had to get that deep into the rear brakes. So I can't speak from experience on this. Here's a link that shows the build up of the system. www.chevydiy.com/brake-system-installation-c3-corvette-restoration-guide/
@@darkleg7355 well, manufacturers don't always consider maintenance. The original poster asked a great question that I could not answer. Thank you for providing insight on that. Much appreciated.
Both the hub and the rotor have runout as a part of manufacturing tolerances. At the factory the rotors are machined on the hub, to eliminate (minimize) the run out. If the rotor is not indexed to the hub, it could result in increased runout. See my video on how to address this with a new rotor on an existing hub --> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xy02MmosLgo.html
To spread the pads, push the bottom of the star adjuster towards the center of the car. Facing from the back of the car towards the front (like you are driving the car) you would be spinning the adjuster counterclockwise.
Ok, thanks. I just bought a 73. I can pull all the way up on the parking brake handle and it doesn’t tighten up at all. The cable bolt is tightened all the way. So I was thinking the star adjuster might be stuck, or the shoes are really worn.
@@axelhammer1611 You can tighten the parking brake handle. I've got a video on that too. Just be careful not to over tighten it, you can break springs in the parking braken... been there, done that. It's also possible that a previous owner removed the brake shoes.
Are u comoletely serious???? Love that you skipped past the installation of the retaining clips and springs. The only reason i come here to see and you jump past it!!!???
I understand your frustration. I tried to video that part, but it was impossible for me to get any angle on the shot. Hold the wire clip from the back and push the spring seat in with needle nose pliers and twist. Not a swear free job. Good luck.
