This is easily one of the best episodes; having all the kids and parents work together against a common enemy that introduces completely new and whacky characters to mirror Springield's, as well as a whole new location. Homer was absolutely hilarous in the campervan, and the Shelbyville Dad eating the lemon and "shake your fist harder boy" scenes, and just the way he talks in general, is comedy gold. And let's not forget the "cool glass of turnip juice at the end", which made me shudder seeing it for the first time way back then.
1:02 probably gets a good chuckle out of most people, but i laughed until i cried when i first saw it. This show game me some of the biggest laughs of my life
I like that Homer's equivalent in Shelbyville wears overalls and speaks in an antiquated rural dialect and merely runs a car impound lot, which is about as far as Homer would make it if he didn't have an incredible run of luck to have a well-paying job as a nuclear safety inspector and to go on adventures every day.
The Shelbyville dad is based on Walter Matthau, who Dan Castellaneta used as a reference for Homer in the early days, so it's more of an in joke that he is Shelbyville's Homer Simpson.
As a teenager who'd tape Simpsons episodes every Sunday, I must have rewound and rewatched that moment at least fifty times. I did the same when Whitey Ford was knocked unconscious by pretzels at the Springfield Isotopes game.
Classic Simpsons can never be topped because who keeps half of a lemon inside of their pocket... Let alone to have eaten lemon as if it's a hand fruit 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely love it how the Shelbyville Dad suddenly has a lemon in his hand even though at 1:01 he clearly doesn't have a lemon when he's pointing at Homer but when he returns his hand back, he suddenly has one ready to bite to mock them out of nowhere. I dunno why but that always used to be one of the leading reasons what cracked me up as a kid along with his face once he takes a bite of it. XD
Homer: lemon tree? Bart: yeah, our lemon tree has been stolen by Shelbyville Homer: well why didn't you say so Bart: I just did, and it's down there Homer: well let's go get it back
I'd laugh if the shelbyville dad said this Homer: "That tree's been in Springfield since the time of our forefathers." shelbyville dad: "I didn't have four fathers! I only had one father and I didn't know him that well!"
Or since Shelbyville likes marrying their cousins "I had four cousins, but only one forefather, (Shelbyville Manhatten) and he can't remember who he slept with. 😂😂
