Thanks for posting. I also love to watch meteor showers. The weather in here North West Arkansas is not always the best but it is worth the time to watch for it.

This morning, 11/07/2022 5:38am EST, I saw in the sky a scene I cannot explain. Facing East, the moon would have been on the west facing side of my house. Dawn was not set to occur until 6:36am, according to the weather app. But, I saw a bright white glowing orb, with an aurora effect extending to the left to what I can only explain as a tear in the night sky. Inside the tear… it looked blue… as if it were mid afternoon on a beautiful blue sky day. Now… there are no aurora borealis or southern borealis in the North Carolina sky. Not to my knowledge. What did I see? I have photos and video. Anyone see it? Any ideas? Thank you.

What you saw sounds really interesting! My assumption is that you witnessed the later stages of an Antares rocket launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia. This was a NASA uncrewed mission carrying supplies on board the Cygnus spacecraft to the International Space Station that lifted off at 5:32 a.m. EST. Launches like these during the early morning can be seen across a large area along the eastern U.S., and since you saw this around 5:38 a.m. EST in North Carolina, then it is likely you caught this event. The stages of the rocket can create a beautiful tear drop effect as they reach higher altitudes above the Earth. We have great sightings like this here in Florida for dark sky launches from KSC and the Cape. www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-science-cargo-launches-on-northrop-grumman-resupply-mission-0 -Seth Mayo, Curator of Astronomy

@@MOASDaytona Thank you! I found a news article with a sky pic. It’s very much the same as my photos.
