Man I swear I love this kind of mini setup 💖 looks so elegant and discrete and at the same time you have an amazing performance. Keep doing those please!
Love these videos...Nice job! - One issue, and a warning you forgot to tell people.. if they buy one of these and a NEW 5600g -- How will they upgrade the bios if they don't have an old APU?
@@justinbailey6515 Work arounds wasn't the point. The point I was trying to make is the WARNING... that if someone sees this video, puts all these parts into newegg cart, purchases the product, and puts it all together, to find out, it doesn't boot, they might be upset they just spend $500+ dollars and they have to wait for work around hardware.. etc.. they might be upset..
Thanks to you, I'm waiting for all my parts to arrive on Thursday for this similar build. The 5600G is extremely hard to get in Malaysia without combo with motherboard
@@Moudiremoo all completed. Luckily had a friend at the computer shop that could supply all the parts and put it together. I used Id cooling is 47k as eta prime's previous build. The system is snippy fast super small, the size of a PSU
Hey man, glad to read you build your computer as planned. I live in Malaysia myself, near Port Dickson,. so not so close to any real IT shop. I'm thinking about getting a 5600G or 5700G without combo. Any recommendation of where to get this CPU? I've looked up online (Lazada) and prices range between RM1600 and RM2200+, so I'm a bit uncertain about reliability of the resellers...
I love my x300, I have an r5 3400g in it at the moment and it fly's along nicely. I replaced the stock cooler with an Arctic Alpine 12 cooler for 9 English pounds, added the 2 extra usb 2 slots (which you will really need), I got a decent intel wireless kit, 16gb of 3200 sodimm, and the Asrock motherboard allows a quite substantial overclock to chip and ram. I fully intend to swop the 3400g for a 5600g when the time is right.
The noctua NH-L9a-AM4 fits in this case snugly but perfectly, like it was made for this case. This will provide cooler and quieter operation for the 5600G or provide more than enough cooling power for a 5700G. 120watts really should be enough for the 5700G, especially if you cTDP down to 45watt. I've had my X300 for a few years and it has been running a 65w 2400G, 2x M.2 drives, and a SATA SSD. It has been flawless and the power supply has never struggled despite me using every bit of IO and CPU power this thing offers. Will probably upgrade to a 5700G after 6000/7000 series launch and bring down prices on 5700Gs.
@@gatienz435 I did. I put it in a different chassis since no amount of BIOS updates would allow the original X300 to recognize the 5700G, even though it's basically a chipset-less motherboard with no obvious changes to the latest version which does support the 5700G. If I didn't already have a spare mini tower case and motherboard I would have gotten the latest X300 as is still a brilliant chassis.
I'm pretty sure you can get Dirt 5 to run 60 fps with the 5700g overclocked everything but still air cooled. He didn't play it with his 5700g water cooled review but he should try it to see if I am right
BTW, the stock fan fits, but only one of both possible ways! The fan shroud has some plastic bits sticking out that will interfere with the case when you slide it in, so when mounting the cooler make sure you orient them to the side where there's more space
I watched your video about the X300 Mini awhile back and got one as soon as I could. It's an awesome little machine. I had a 2200G laying around so I've been using that. I was contemplating the 5700G or the 5600G and have been waiting for the consumer release. But after watching this I think I will save $100 and order a 5600G. Thanks for the great video as always!
I built this, using a noctua low pro cooler, the 5700g and 64g ram. Nvme boot drive and 2 sata hdd. Runs great in stock form. No power issues, so far. Nice upgrade over the 3400g that I had.
anyone trying this: the shroud was screwed on with two screws with the one i got, you can rip it off, but if you ever want to get that shroud back on, you should really just unscrew those and the shroud should come right off also getting that thing inside the case is somewhat of a hackjob, I think I'll replace it with a noctua LP NH-L9a if I'm opening this thing up again..
Yep, I just installed the wraith cooler and the fit is way to tight and is pushing on the case. I definitely recommend using a low profile CPU cooler instead.
gpu wise it is pretty much the same, dont do it. I have both 3200g and a asus g14 laptop with r9 4900hs and the gpu of the new apu are pretty much the same perf wise.
Not with this mini barebones. With a larger M-ITX build like he did previously with 5700g, overclocked ram, cpu and gpu will smoke equally overclocked 3400G so in that case it would be worthy of an upgrade. Not so sure near stock clocks and not much voltage to play with.
I remember rocking an AMD A8 6600k for my first build, and running games on that was horrible but I still enjoyed it, APUs have really come a long way. Very potiential option for new first PC builds, especially with lack of GPUs on the market.
I built my dad the older A300W for xmas and he loves it. Small, quick and does everything he needs. This might be a better option to buy so they can cut the cord.
A year on, and that APU is now £120. I love how you have made a compact, casual gaming system out of those components. It's barely larger than my Steam Deck. That's the sort of kit that you could put under the living room TV, and no one would know it's there. You know what I would do with that? I would put it in an Arcade Cabinet. You know, even low settings give good quality game play these days. Low settings in games now, aren't like low settings in games used to be 20 years ago, say, when it was exceptionally noticeable.
@@sevenatenine_7 I have a 1070 for 4 years now and it plays everything I wanted with 3900x. I just want a small built for fun. I have the larkbox for old emulation. Gonna put the big built for TV gaming and use 5600g for work.
@@bangity i bought the 5000 series (5600G) because it is the final lineup of B550M/B450M motherboard. By this time i'm just gonna wait for DDR5 markets (Zen 4, 5, and so on) to reach at affordable prices even if it takes 3-4 years. for now i'm saving my money to buy a GPU since 5600G offers good performance up to RTX 3060/3070.
Those asrock STX board are so cute - tiny little things, with the cpu socket taking up a good portion of the real estate, and the ram sockets quite a bit more. Where do they hide the chips for ethernet, wlan and vga!! ;)
Maybe the culprit for the reduced performance is the memory form-factor, instead of the stock clock speed. Faster memories can boost the integrated graphics output.
This would be perfect for editing pics, I've been back and forth with the 5600g or the 5700g, it doesn't seem like it's worth the $100 to go to the 5700g for my needs. I wish you'd have shown more productivity scores, but I get that you are more of a gaming channel. I would love to know if there is a big enough difference from one chip to the other in rendering.
Guys, if you buy these two items, the x300 & 5600G, please make sure you have the bios of the desk mini updated to the latest version, or you will not be able to use the 5600G. If you already have an older 3000 series or 2000 series APUs, then you may be able to upgrade the bios and use the 5000 series APU.
Exactly what happened to me. It just would not boot up. Everything built as it should be, all installed properly and checked several times, but what happens is this : Plug in and press the power button - > CPU fan comes on and orange light flashes and goes off, no image on the monitor, virtually nothing. I've had to order another older processor as a cheaper and quickest available option 3000G to just update the bios and will see what happens. I just wish I'd seen your comment sooner 😅
@@Legal_alien-li9ud I am in the exact same situation. Light flashes, fan spins, nothing else. I had assumed that I could update the BIOS with the 5600G installed, or flash it via USB. Now I'm waiting on a 200GE, just so that I can update the BIOS. What a pain!
@@DanielNienhuis some of my comments seem to get deleted 😅. I just wanted to say that I ended up cancelling the order for athlon, but instead using AMD CPU loan service , it's free and you just need to fill in the form with the details of your 5600g purchase and request an older CPU for BIOS update directly from AMD. They sent it out quickly and absolutely free of charge and I already updated mine and sending it back today. I hope this helps
I've got a 5700g in an x300. The x300 negates a lot of the minisforum amd products because it's just much cheaper to build your own. PSU handles the 5700g just fine even with PBO. You could also get a 180w adapter too. Also highly recommend the ID Cooling ISK47 with a noctua fan for cooling.
Did you have to upgrade your BIOS prior to filming? I had bought an X300 and it came with v1.4, so I had to update it to v1.7 before I could use the APU I'd bought.
@@DanielNienhuis I bought a 3000G, installed it and then downloaded the updated BIOS file from the website and threw it on a USB drive like Daniel mentioned. After I upgraded the BIOS I pulled the 3000G and installed my 5700G and worked like a charm.
This is awesome. Didn't know this STX form factor existed. I have a Ryzen 4500u based mini pc (like an AMD version NUC), and it's great, but it is running a mobile chip. I don't need a huge gamer desktop or GPU, but would like to use a desktop APU like 5600g or 5700g. I've been looking at what I thought was the next size up, Mini-ITX. But cool to know I have more options in between.
Yes, I'd love to see this exact same setup with the 5700G and some faster RAM, like the Corsair Vengeance SODIMM DDR4 which they have in speeds up to 4000mhz. I want to see if that power supply can handle all that with an iGPU overclock and maybe even a CPU overclock at the same time. I'm doubting it will but you never know 😁 P.s. Long time follower, LOVE your content Prime! Keep up the great work brother
It can't. Any other brick likely won't work either. I have looked this up. You can put a 5700g but to justify the extra $100 you really need to put this into an enthusiast M-ITX board with 200-300W of power and then OC everything, crush the GT-1030 DDR5 and with a drive update (if that is coming) nip the heels of the GT-1050.
Are you saying a 5700G APU miniPC system requires a 200-300W PSU? That's insane. My Lenovo desktop with a GTX1050Ti graphics card and intel CPU only had a 260W PSU.
@@blacksun472 on the chip alone ur right indeed but maybe not if one is willing to oc ram cpu and igpu and wants to use the usb c charging or multiple usb A‘s at the same time + more than one m.2, possibly, normal ssd‘s or even an hdd And if u go for a 5700 it’s not worth the upgrade over 5600 if one does not make use of the possible overclocking headroom one would find with a larger build with better cooling and more wattage supplied
@@dj4monie i just got one same setup here but i want to use a bigger power brick like 200watts. Is there any out there that will work? I tried looking with no luck 😞 someone said as long as its 19v you can is this correct?
I find it awesome that the newer AMD APU 6core 12 thread can out perform my first gen 1700x in some tasks. I am looking forward to eventually upgrading to Ryzen 5000 series.
Its basically every task. The 5600G is 20% faster in multicore and 50% in single core workloads. There is no metric where the 1700X can win against the 5600G. 4650G is also ahead in every task, just by a lower margin.
@@te0nani can i run Nier Automata 720p smoothly on 4650g? Most of my task are lighter than playing Nier Automata Also, does this thing really support SATA on the back? Thank you!

I wonder if the PSU is proprietary or uses a standard laptop adapter (19.5V)? I wonder if the universal laptop adapter will work. If it works, maybe you can try purchase 1 with 150W or 180W and see if we can crank it a little bit more. Anyway, nice little review and it's good that you mention that the CPU cooler can fit into the case but need to have the shroud remove. We don't need to buy additional cooler.
Just built one with a 5700G, 16gb Crucial 3200mhz, 1tb Samsung 980 and Noctua's low profile cooler... holy smokes.. silent and AMAZING.. BLOWS away the Asus PN51 badly!..
Please write the exact model of your cpu cooler and what are the numbers (frecuency) in your cpu, gpu and ram? Did you do any overclock? Please let me know... 🙏
I built a 16 gb Ram, 1tB NVME, 1tB Sata, Server with a 4650G CPU out of this. This is mainly my Minecraft Server. It runs with 15 Watts. FIFTEEN WATTS!!!!! Insane.
i have the asrock a300, it might be worth looking at the memory timings, laptop memory can be shocking, and auto can be bit loose, i was getting 3400 out of my memory no problem, then i looked at those terrible timings, i tightened it up real good, but the memory could only run at 3200, but this did bring performance improvements over being at 3400.
I know alot of people would not want to do this , but hacking the case by cutting out the grill around the CPU fan would allow for a huge increase in airflow . In a normal PC case the fan has no restriction like that .Since the fan is right up against the grill , its restricting how much air is going thru the heat sink. Bet it would decrease temp a bit , and maybe could get away with a higher over clock on the GPU.
I was thinking about that too. Coming from a motor sport background I know that grille will badly mess up the airflow to the cooler. To go further I would look at adapting a racing induction ram pipe, a bell shaped one to draw air from a full 180 degrees at the inlet. Look at photos of high performance or race engines to see what I mean. Would look good too ;-} Also, to open up the air exhaust grilles as much as possible without ruining case strength would reduce air pressure inside case and so provide more airflow to the cooler radiator fins. Need to minimise sharp edges in the airflow throught the cooling system. The noise of air flowing over the many sharp edges in airflow would reduce too.
ETA Prime hit it big boys, he's got a sample 6500g based on his timeline titles for Forza. I had a 4700g in the x300 and loved it (had to super underclock it though). The x300 is wonderful, can't wait for the future ones that drop the vga port. Great review.
perfectly suited for me. as i use pc for light editing, mainly office and internet works. most important for me is less power consumption ☺️. i will look back if intel could make better on board graphic card on their chip ☺️
I wish I would have scooped up this case and 120W PSU when it was available. It's a very attractive value! In July 2022 I just picked up an AMD 5600G at a discount of $178. But I have to build around a Silverstone case since this Asrock case is gone. Man, if they made this case in white, my wife would have loved it!
Would be nice to see a review of this unit running a Arch linux distro like Garuda or Endavour as test. Truly hope this would be possible to show as comparison to a Windows setup.

@@ETAPRIME Most welcome. Don't like to see people that would use them buy from an eBay scalper. Word didn't get out much on this sale date. Hello ETA, hope you're well. I'm thinking of buying this case/mobo/psu combo. I noticed you said you're limited for overclocking due to the 90w PSU. Do you think one of the 35w CPUs will allow for more overclocking and/or increase the lifespan of the mobo/case/psu combo?
Awesome video…got myself the same setup after watching your video…can’t seem to find the ARGB strip anywhere online to add to the case, but overall very happy with this little PC build so far.
Interested in the video with the 5700g please and also please upload the emulation test with this build. I am about to make one for myself and want to make sure it has enough juice. Love your videos. Thanks in advance.... 🙏
If you set CPU to 4.4GHz and use DDR4 4000 memory, CPU & 3D performance can raise a lot. I am sure Deskmini X300 can support this setting. 3D Mark Time Spy performance can raise to about 1761.(raise about 300.)
If they make an updated version with a very slight size increase to help with the wraith cooler by a few extra mm and a better power supply to support the 5700G and its overclock
That cpu with that cooler and with that shroud on will burn like a star. Plus wraith stealth has annoying tone. To anyone buying x300 and thinking of using wraith stealth, its fine i guess just replace the fan, any 25mm/92mm will do.another problem with stealth heatsink is that its thick enough to push fan against the mesh housing wich makes it acustics of it a lot.louder and holes on the mesh are too small to let through enough air so it will run hot and kinda loud. Noctua that fits inside is slightly better since its not right againts the mesh and cools 2-3 degrees better but still too hot. Just try it without the case and you will see. Also it WILL need setting lower powerlimits and temp limits in bios for everyday use so dont expect to run benchmarks as in the videos. Still i am happy with mine, just had to mod the case to fit wraith spire with copper core.
This is a great apu, can't wait until it comes out for more laptops and mini pc's. I also think it would be amazing if ETA can get his hands on a Framework Laptop, and get his opinion on what he thinks of it.
I did the same overclock as you with my X300w build using the 5600g but i do have the Noctua low profile cooler and I am surprised stays about 8c cooler than it did with the Wrath cooler and with the mem at 3400 and GPU at 2200 and volt bumped to same as yours it runs great and Dirt 2.0 on 1080p looks good and I get 40+fps with medium settings very happy with the bump in performance with your small overclock settings and still seems rock solid stable...edit as i returned with a benchmark and in Time spy all defalt running 1440 144hz screen I got 1523 with Graphics score 1341 and CPU score 6600 I am assuming it because I have the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 cooler and that allowed mine to stay at higher clocks as it only hit 74c during the Time spy test ...just a FYI :-)
I'm snatching one of this for an upgrade from first gen Raven Ridge 2500U, I know I'm a year late but it's gonna be a solid upgrade for retro gaming and uni tasks.
Thank you for the excellent review and fan guidelines. It would be nice if you had included temps and noise levels of fan under stress to take into account when installing this system in a quiet space. (I saw that you've mentioned that under "performance" fan settings in bio, it didn't pass 62 degrees)
Oh men, you got this. I build a 2.3L tiny Ryzen 4750G PC. It has full itx compatibility, and even a regular 120mm fan, but is larger than the 1.92L of the DeskMini.
In real life - not so much, but still we are talking 6 core vs 8 core CPU. In benchmarks : Cinebench R23 (Single-Core) +4% more for 5700G Cinebench R23 (Multi-Core) +28% more for 5700G Bottom line, if you can afford that extra 100 USD/Euro for 5700G then go for it, it's good for the future.
overclocking the third gen ryzen (3000) was not a thing with the stock cooler, It was running 90c or higher during stress testing. I actually couldn't believe it. Hopefully the new ones are better
if the x300 ships with an older bios version and does not recognize the 5600g, can you still launch the inital bios screen and update the bios? or do you need an older cpu?
Thanks for the nice reveiw I love your channel. I was going to build until I found out at todays prices it would cost $700-$800. The CPU isn't the bottleneck anyway, it's the integrated graphics. I don't know how you got it to pull 116W (extreme stress test of CPU and graphics simultaneously after clocking the iGPU and ram?) but I'm fairly certain I would never encounter such a situation as gaming would be the most stressful thing I would do. I bought the MSI DP20Z with the 5600G because it was cheaper at $600 than I could build one. The 5300G model that's 90% as capable as the 5600G could be had for $500 if they were in stock and I'd have gotten one of those had they been in stock. Both models only come with 8GB of 2666 dual channel ram, but that should be sufficient for any game the system could competently run and the ram is upgradable, if you must. The stock Wraith Stealth fan fits with the cowl and milimeters would count if fan upgrade choices come into play. Looking at you SilverStone Technology KR01 Low Profile 95W or More AMD Socket AM2/AM3/AM4/FM1/FM2 CPU Cooler Only 54mm Tall Cooling KR01-x which is probably 5mm taller than the X300 would be comfortable with. Wraith Stealth is 50mm (rough measurement, I didn't bother to put calipers on it) tall before removing the cover/bezel/shroud whatever you want to call it.
You might have been quite a bit away from the power limit still. Power supplies are rated by the amount of power they can supply, which will always be lower than the amount of power they pull from the wall due to conversion losses. I do not know how efficient that power supply is, but assuming it has a 90% efficiency, 116 watts from the wall would amount to 104 watts being delivered to the system, leaving 16 watts headroom.
The difference you're going to use in wattage between the 5700 G and the 5600 G really is negligible. Worst case scenario you could park 2cores 4 threads in ryzen master and still be able to benefit from the beefier GPU and the extra cores.
Just FYI, that 116W from the wall isn't what the system is using, it's what the PSU is using. The PSU isn't 100% efficient so the system is actually drawing less power than that.
@@acejon2162 if total system power with 5600g goes close to 120w, 5700g would do at least 20w more even 30 or more overclocked. Nobody has tested 5700g with x300 yet for exact numbers
I got myself this sff with a 4650g and I absolutely love it. Very fast, absolutely silent (I got myself a Noctua cooler) and with older games I can play without much trouble and with a lot of FUN ! Great video as always ! Keep up the great work !
Hi ETA! Excllent work everytime! I would like to see a comparison between all the APU you have tested and your thougth. I know they"re plenty of benchmarks youtube pages out there but want to see your PoV.
All of the recent APU's do well. About 20-30% jump in gaming performance with E titles but about the same with AAA titles. Majority are playable at 720p-1080p 50-60 fps. IMHO anything is playable at 30 fps save for FPS maybe. You would be doing more with these APU's than play games, one would hope anyway.
Would love to see a locked 30 in the demanding games. I cant wait for the steam deck. Ive always been interested in small form factor builds I actually just built my first itx build not too long ago. I have a 3900x, Arctic Freezer ii 120mm aio, 16gb’s 3600mhz cl14 ram, reference 5700xt, evga BQ 500 watt psu. They were all from spare parts i had laying around except the aio and case. I was scared 500 wasn’t enough but I tested about 10 games and the average was 350 watt power draw maybe maxing both cpu and gpu you could go over.
I am building the exact setup but with 5700G instead. I also have a A300+2200G that I recently put Batecera and I am using as my emulation machine thanks to your videos!
Did you go with this setup? I'm thinking of doing it myself, but am worried about the 120w psu if it's enough... Going with the noctua cooler as well to help with temps.
@@ZeppFloyd85 I did and it works great! I ran several hours of benchmarks and had no issues regarding power (with Samsung 980 SSD), but I was using the Noctua NH-L9a cooler and the temps were above 90C during stress tests and above 70C during medium/low workload (quiet but a bit too high for my taste). Overall, I believe powersupply is enough and if you don't mind high temps, go for it, it is a nice setup!
@@pretosmind thanks for your reply, I'll definitely go for it. I'm a casual gamer and I do some light modeling in solidworks so I think this could really be my daily driver.
Nice content! I am thinking to build a mini-pc for investing, watching movies, and playing non-heavy games like genshin impact, which one of these, nuc 11 i5 1135G7/asrock deskmini x300 + 5600G, would you suggest? I feel the iGPU on 1135G7 and 5600G are on a similar level (GTX 750Ti), but 5600G wins on CPU performance. Is that gonna affect a lot on the gaming experience? I also think the size of x300 is a little bit embarrassing, as it is only a little bit smaller than some mini-itx chassis (2L vs 4L), but mini-itx do support discrete graphics card. What do you think? Thank you and looking forward to your reply!
@Garrus Vakarian Thanks for replying! If I buy nuc 11 i5 first, and install an external GPU dock later by thunderbolt 3 when necessary, what do you think about this idea? I agree that the bottleneck is iGPU not CPU, so even 1135G7 is slower than 5600G for 50%, it really doesn't matter at all imo.
@Garrus Vakarian That's because I know Iris Xe can play genshin impact with 60fps under 1080 lowest setting, and I am not such a heavy gamer currently. That's why I don't have the urge to build a heavy gaming pc yet. In addition, a small external GPU dock with GTX 1650 is still smaller than NR200. By the way, there is an STX barebone named P310S, which is almost same size as x300, but with an additional slot for low profile discrete graphics card and 180W power supply. That might be the smallest form factor with a discrete graphics card. Also there are some 4 liters mini-itx chassis that support discrete GPU, maybe these are the better options? What do you think?
Wish these Ryzen G APUs were a bit cheaper and easier to find. They would save many a gamer from this horrendous GPU market. Here in Eastern Europe, a Radeon 6700XT goes for more than twice its MSRP, same for GeForce equivalent. It sucks if you’re trying to build a PC.
I've really enjoyed these videos on the Desk Mini you've made. I know this is an older video but could you do a video on this setup with HoloISO or StreamOS installed?
I am about to build my second time ever DIY PC. this is a home office PC, no gaming just normal use and casual basic video editing. I have a brand new, never used AMD Ryzen 2400G lying around, but came upon a great offer of Ryzen 5600G. My question - does it make sense to buy the newer CPU and will I feel a big difference between the two?
