#USPSinternaltheft This video has been uploaded to share my personal experience concerning postal theft - having a package tampered with by someone (or many people) at the United States Postal Service. Comics sent to me were taken out of a package, that disappeared over two months, and then replaced with a stack of laminated paper. Watch the whole video to understand what happened.

After reading the numerous comments about how they were "just comics" and nobody cares about comics - I will make all those people a deal. If you have the first appearance of Batman, Superman, Deadpool, She-Hulk, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, The Flash, Guardians of the Galaxy or any other major comic book characters to get a movie today, I will buy them ALL off you for one crisp dollar bill. $1 of cash for all your rare worthless comics...because, you know....they are "just" comics worth nothing and definitely something a part-time struggling postal employee would never consider stealing. Same goes for old baseball cards, jewelry, new iPhones and other worthless junk. Theft never happens anywhere, right?

150 Years of Awesome Canada The USPS stole my comics, plain and simple.
@StingofTruth

150 Years of Awesome Canada I'm guessing it was chicago that stole it. I'm close to chicago, about 100 miles away. I ordered a faux horn silvertip shaving brush from a respected and trusted ebay seller. The tracking shows it arrived at Chicago's isc a couple days ago from China. My family thinks "oh it's just a shave brush, get another one but next time get it from a seller here in the USA". Problem is that for a 24 mm silvertip shave brush with a faux horn acrylic handle of this quality prices are going to start at 140 dollars not the 24 i spent in ebay. But that's not all. I've searched all the vendors in the USA and Canada and all i can find is a lower quality brush, that's 23mm and the cost is around 80 dollars. So to get one of equal value I'm looking at commissioning a custom brush so my price will be closer to starting at 200 dollars and I'm not wealthy enough to justify that much money. A hobby is a hobby, it's something that brings joy to is whether it's comic books, traditional shaving, or stamp collecting. I just read that sometimes it does take up to 2 weeks for a package to leave the chicago isc. I hope that's the case but am holding my breath because of the thousands of complaints regarding this isc. Chicago isc needs new management, staff, and security measures to stop this kind of thing, but i doubt the USPS will do anything about it. It's been running this way for years.

We had a package delivered by Amazon that was placed on our porch. Soon after that a postal worker came to our home carrying a large box that she placed on our porch, opened it and then proceeded to rummaged through it. When she was finished she closed the flaps, then took out a marking pin and wrote on the outside of the box that it initially had been delivered to the wrong address. She then leaned over, picked up the package that Amazon had delivered and walked back to her vehicle and drove off. All of this was recorded by our security cameras. My husband called the Post Office in our area, but was transferred to a recording that directed him to a website to file a complaint. Two weeks afterwards my husband got a generic email stating they were “looking into the matter”. That was three weeks ago and we have not heard a word from them since. Unfortunately, finding a postal worker who actually cares is next to impossible. The apathetic responses lead me to believe that many of the employees are protectors of these thieves, if not thieves themselves. Stealing mail is a federal offense and the thieves deserve to be arrested and prosecuted as felones. Our home sets far off the road and our front porch is hidden by tall hedges, preventing anyone from seeing anything that may be on it. The Postal-thief bent over so that she was below the hedges and couldn’t be seen by anyone driving by as she ransacked the one box and stole the other. The one thing she didn’t do was to look around to see if she and her actions were being recorded. Whether the UPSP cares about this or not, the police will, because I have no doubt that porch-pirates are a big issue for them. Calling the police and swearing out charges are our next move in this matter. If this woman is stealing whatever she wants out of my packages, including the package itself, then she is stealing from others as well. Millions of people are the victims of these types of thieves everyday and it is incumbent on all of us to do our part to hold these people accountable for their crimes, by reporting them to their employers and the police and following up with these organizations to ensure they too are doing their part as well. We all work too hard for our money to allow these thieving-criminals to get away with their ever increasing crimes.

Sounds to me like a USPS truck driver took your package and after making his deliveries all over the US, ended up putting it back into the system in Chicago only after he saw an inquiry had been made. There are probably a LOT of "missing" packages that never get reported because people know it's a waste of time. Those thieves SUCK and should be neutered!!

It sounds like that’s what Guru thinks happened. It all sounds a little too on the nose in my opinion. If YOU were this “truck driving thief”, would you replace the stolen items with something that directly ties back to you? It’s like a murderer throwing his ID in the victims corpse & expecting not to get caught.

Thank you for an excellent video! I bought an iphone from Ebay. I was home when it was supposed to be delivered after it was signed for. The postal carrier should have rung my door bell, did not and only dropped off my mail, I chased her in my car and caught her 1 block away from my home and asked for the iphone package. She said Oh!, you have to sign for it, I did and she had to give me what she planned to keep for her own. I sympathize with you.

Another thing that we do that we dont have to is "if the mailbox is blocked(car) we do not have to deliver" , if you have a dog in your yard, we dont have to deliver, in fact my district will terminate you on the spot for a dog bite, and I am not saying what she did was right but our job sucks, (usps managers suck, and will try to write you up for any little thing, they expect you to be making the same pace on hour 8,9,10+ yes +, then harp at you for not being back by 5, we have a police force called the postal inspectors, they track missing mail, and theft, these people are alot like the Gestapo back in nazi Germany, on our usps reddit, we often post about how mysterious valuables appear in the new community mailboxes with the parcel doors, stuff like phones, expensive beer. And finally I will quit rambling with this last thing, if a product comes damaged, it's the carriers fault, not the shippers, not the clerks who sort them by route for us to deliver, if something unplanned like an act of god, it's our fault, we are way below a skeleton crew, we are expected to work around 150 hours a pay period in some areas, 2 weeks is our pay period, my guess is she was under stress if she was a cca/rca the part timers who work more than the full timers with less pay and benefits.

I would like to thank everyone who had taken the time to watch and comment on this video. Although I uploaded it back in 2015, it has suddenly skyrocketed in views and comments in the last few months. I'm shocked it has reached 100,000+ views from just 30,000 just a few months ago. 500+ comments from only 150+ over two years. I have read the good and bad and it is all interesting. Some people think I'm just paranoid and that they were just worthless comics, so who cares. Those comments are entertaining and comical to read - the breakroom and toilet paper one was funny. A small handful think this is 'false news' (the new over-used buzz term) because I have nothing better to do. Those people are idiotic, but they are entitled to their opinions. Others think the issue is just bad mismanagement by postal employees after the sorting machine ripped open my package and the policy is to stuff the envelope with whatever is lying around (which is straight up sad and a horrible business policy). I've had postal employees troll this video, but to be fair, I've had other postal employees admit to the reality 3rd party contracted carriers and USPS contracted/temp employees who have been known to steal. But the vast majority of commentators have their own gripes and stories to share - which I thank you all for. As mentioned in the video, my biggest problem was with USPS customer service. Theft or mismanagement happens in all businesses everywhere - that is just the reality of life - but how a business deals with those issues is what matters. Since many people have been asking me what has happened since...the answer is, well - nothing! My expensive comics in the package (which today have a book value of about $1200-$1500 combined) are long gone and I've made my piece with that. USPS never issued the insured value of the package and after months of trying to get the appropriate paperwork and submitting this and that only to be told 'this was the wrong claim' or 'you where given the wrong form', my mother and I got frustrated and just gave up. We never heard back from the Postal Inspector's office either. Life is busy and I had to move on from this. Over the years I have bought many of those comics back again. Who knows, maybe I brought a few of them off who ever took them? I did watch eBay and Amazon for months after, but proving if they were mine proved futile since no one posted all of them at once or a good enough number to look suspicious. Regardless, I take this as a learning lesson. That is the only way to move on and grow in knowledge. Now I only receive packages in USPS Priority Mail Boxes and by FedEx. I have not had any problems since. This video has reached so many other people who before thought their experiences were isolated and I'm glad you now have a message board here to share your personal stories. Please continue to share and please be careful when you mail. Regardless if my experience was a theft or just negligence/bad sorting, there is room to learn so problems like this don't happen again. Cheers

I work for the USPS. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Yes, there are thieves among us in the USPS. We are getting better at catching them, but internally there is a lot of improvements that could be made. I would agree with you, a USPS driver or contract carrier would be the most likely culprit. They would be out of view of other employee's eyes, no video cameras around, and they would have the time to leisurely select packages of value while in transit, most likely at a truck stop. Because your package was sent internationally, you had to itemized and list the value of the contents. This gave the thief a shopping list. Unfortunately, the USPS doesn't take the time and diligence to weed out thieves. Once a thief, always a thief. If the thief stole your package, they've stolen many others. This thief wouldn't be that hard to catch if the USPS would take the time to note problems with packages that were the possession of people who handled them at any given time. The biggest advantage there is to catching a thief is, they are consistent in their routines. After that, you need the evidence to convict them.
@rurallife2514
@rurallife2514 7 лет назад
Seen On RU-vid - What improvements would you like to see made? I agree with you that a contract truck driver at a truck stop is the most likely explanation here, but it would be hard to track that before complaints are made. I'm not sure what you do at the USPS, but those international itemized lists usually say something like "housewares", or "clothing", or "books". Hardly a shopping list for a thief. If your PO won't take the time to weed out thieves, please report that. At least in my PO (carrier of 28 years now), employees are questioned on every complaint or missing item call (including late SS checks, media mail parcels sent the previous evening, and so forth). There is a very low background rate of lost/stolen parcels on routes with honest carriers. If that spikes on 1 route, it could be thieves following the carrier and looking for Amazon boxes on porches, but it sure wouldn't happen on that same route all the time. If a carrier is stealing parcels, it should stand out like a sore thumb. Even with a clerk, mail processing employee, or contract truck driver, it should stand out if more problems always occur in certain places or when a certain person works. You mentioned thieves being consistent, and I'd generally agree with that. The tracking would show which trucks had the most items scanned out which were never scanned in at the other end, or that resulted in complaints of items missing. Same for if a lot of gift cards go missing when a certain clerk works, but not on their days off, or at other stations. The OIG and the Postal Inspectors seem to go after any thief they can find, and to be looking quite hard. Still, if you see ways to improve things, try the OIG Hotline at www.uspsoig.gov/hotline.

Just last week I had a partial sent to me via USPS and it says it was delivered to my cluster box. I waited for the next day because it was too late to call them. When I got to the post office they said the package was miss-sorted and would be delivered that day. It was, however the excuse of miss-sorting, is bull. You don't miss-sort and have it shown that it was delivered. This is not the first time either. I have had several packages not delivered or put in the wrong box a block down from mine.

Amazon sources FedEx & UPS and other carriers for classified material...along with USPS to provide the fastest routes possible from the nearest DC/FC and it works out great. It's always the USPS side that loses/mishandles packages. FE & UPS are quite reliable in my experience over the years. USPS has slow tracking(even on overnight shipments), and a lot of mishandling but has a great service for the most part. The network they have is second to none, yet there is a market for a better service if the private market could provide it & lobby for it.

If this continues, in the not-too-distant future, they are going to be unemployed. We go out of our way not to use their services anymore. At one point, we even removed our mailbox. Having worked to remedy these messes I have learned: 1) Leadership is nonexistent at my PO 2) training that letter carriers get is minimal and inadequate. 3) sloppiness and incompetence on the part of a carrier has no consequence for them 4) Congress keeps throwing money at them and nothing improves. My mail carrier is a thief as well. After the stint today I've decided to install a camera in view of my mailbox. Every time I have a package on the way I track it, of course. The last two times I've had to call the post office and inform them that my package tracking status is delivered. And yet its not in my mailbox. Of course they call the carrier and she comes right back to my mailbox almost 2 full hours after I receive my delivery confirmation. The problem with catching her IS because she's a "sophisticated" thief. She sits at the front of our neighborhood and sifts through stuff. I've passed her going to the grocery store as she's sifting and come back an hour later on my way home and she's still there.

If you watch the ENTIRE video, you will realize I am talking about the FEW people in the USPS ruining the positive reputation of all those who do work hard to make the USPS efficient and competitive. They closed the case without contacting me saying that "Its still awaiting pickup." I then was advised by USPS to open a claim up online. I did and it got denied based on the fact that they never recorded the package as being picked up. I was then, after hours of waiting on hold and numerous transfers only to be redirected to the original phone number, to open a Fraud/Theft case. This is where I stand now. Either they were stolen, or through sorting incompetence, the sorting machine ripped open the package and a postal employee stuffed it with random stuff before sending it along (which is screwed up in its own right). And just an FYI - if the package is international, you do have to list the contents and value on the Customs declaration form. If the family member provided a detailed list, employees would know what's inside - which makes the 'innocent' random stuffing of paper, after a machine rip-open mishap, even more idiotic. Regardless, what is more troubling to me is his experience with the USPS customer service agents. His package was stated as insured, yet it sounds like they refused to give him the insured value or help him in any meaningful way. The telephone tag nonsense we've all gone through with annoyance. The customer service agents sounded like they were clueless throughout his ordeal. Stuff disappears in all industries, but what is the point of tracking and insurance if the company refuses to track properly or provide the insured value when it is appropriate?!
@maj197
@maj197 6 лет назад
It seems that those who defend the USPS by saying the sorting machine ripped open his package and an employee ignored the international declaration on top of the envelop to stuff in random manual pages want to ignore the bigger issue - how come his package disappeared for 2 months and showed up across the country with edited brand new tracking? How is that a normal thing to happen? How does it take 2 months for a package to get from Florida to Illinois? A package coming from China, by cargo ship, takes two months, many times less. The 2 month absence from the postal system and brand new tracking clearly shows this was theft!

All usps carriers are thieves and cover up for one another. My bro in law used to deliver and work in sorting and he told me all about it. Anything of value is getting stolen and the reason nobody seems to want to help you is because they’re scared of their own secrets being exposed if a missing mail search initiated by them leads to one of their coworkers getting caught. They ALL have skeletons in their closet.

I used to have pride in our USPS until I went today to pick up a package for the second time. The first time I went they spent 45 minutes looking for it and couldnt find it. I was left a pink slip to pick it up because they 'missed' me. They never try and 'find' you. So today I went to check again and I was so happy at first when she came back with the package. But it had been ripped open and the contents were gone. It was a ring I bought from Europe. She said I had two options 'file a claim with USPS or mark it as refused and contents empty and ask the seller about it' I chose the latter because I could trust USPS not at all. Not even going to try to throw it. So here I am currently out 80 bucks for a silver ring and I have to hope for the largess of the forger/manufacturer for a replacement.

This was an awesome video, and it was needed. I ordered a package from abroad, and the tracking states "Your item has been processed through our facility in ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS) at 7:52 am on December 27, 2017". Today is January 5th, and I still get the same information. Additionally, I have had two packages and an envelope simply disappear. Fortunately, I have not lost anything of value. Incidentally, it does not matter how much something costs. A person is getting that particular item for a reason. The problem is with the lack of leadership within the USPS.

My story: Ever since two years ago when I started shopping online for hard to find items or just for the convenience, I am often plagued with false delivery reports of a package being delivered to my predesignated location. (I live on a farm - 1/2 mile from my mailbox, hence the prearranged delivery point at a neighbors house.) This time, it was a replacement counter-top ice-maker since the original broke while still under warranty & it was SUPPOSED to be delivered last week on a Tuesday & here we are one week later as is often the case & no ice maker & quite possibly, no other products will be delivered to the drop off point after this since this problem has been constantly ongoing from coast to coast. Clearly, since the little handheld GPS package tracker is flawed & depends solely on the reliability of the individual carrier, once the lazy or dishonest individual has gone close to the location to then get that ping to prove that they were there, the carrier can then swipe the tracker over the tracking bar-code but nothing can prevent him or her from not completing the delivery if he is one of those lazy or thieving individuals. So, basically, the entire system is broken down & even when my lazy-ass local carrier did deliver my stuff to me prior to my having to haggle with him on where to drop off my stuff, he would drop it just about anywhere he pleased while telling me "I don't get paid enough to bring it all the way to your front door." His words, VERBATIM! Of course, all i can say is, "News Flash Buster! YOU ARE A FEDERAL EMPLOYEE! Sadly, you will never be paid enough but all thanks to people like me, at least you have a job & if you are going to whine about your piss-poor earnings to a postal customer, then its time to get the hell out of the biz to find another job that pays more to your satisfaction!" Mind you, even with all the new jobs that have been created as of late because of our more recent US president, I am sure that there will be someone very happy to take the place of my carrier for even less money than he makes now & this coming from the guy that has his own horse ranch & raises horses to sell them! FYI? If you are going to do that, then maybe you should find a better job to support your second career choice OR, methinks that you are a BS liar that really can afford such a hobby & you just don't want to do your job! Lastly, I live in Tennessee & I have already wrote to my Senator, Marsha Blackburn to complain about the broken system that needs to be fixed once & for all.

Your video hit on some very valid and disturbing points regarding the USPS. I have ever had several packages to my husband VANISH while n in transit to an APO address (Miami) while he was deployed--he never received them, and because they had customs forms on the boxes, the thieves....errors, I mean, USPS knew the contents/value. Just this week in Georgia a USPS worker was caught on camera throwing boxes and boxes of mail into a ravine (not junk mail but bank statements, bills, credit card statements etc) and it took postal investigators more than 2 hours to collect all the mail. meanwhile people were being hit with late payment fees because they never received their bills in the mail! (and don't even get me started on identity fraud!) The USPS is as crooked as government politicians.

QUEEN CREEK, ARIZONA USPS: I walked into the post office on Ellsworth a few years ago with a USPS FIRST CLASS BOX, the box that they offer as flat rate. It was 44 pounds. Tom asks; “what the heck you have here, gold?” Jokingly, I said yes. Jokingly because at 44 pounds, at that time it would be worth millions of dollars, who the hell would ship that much gold in a cardboard box... through USPS? Until then, every box I shipped got to it’s destination in 2 or 3 days, signature required. I was 99.9% sure that box would arrive at the destination within 3 days because USPS had never screwed me. After I paid and took a few steps leaving, something told me to return to Tom, and I said, “I hope you know that that’s not gold!” He laughed. Three days later I get a call from my buddy, asking if I shipped the box... worth $1,150.00. I looked at the tracking number and it shows that it left QUEEN CREEK ARIZONA but never arrived in PHOENIX. It vanished from the truck in route to the distribution center in Phoenix Arizona. I’m not gonna tell you the hassle and the aggravation I went through to collect or find my package because you just described it. I have never collected the insurance. They keep telling me that a lot of packages fall through cracks and eventually will be found. Here’s what happened; the clerk asks what’s in it, in cahoots with the driver, he marks the boxes with a sharpie next to the scanning label. The truck driver transporting the mail sets it a side in the truck, knowing it’s one box worth stealing. I know it, I was friends of a postmaster. When I looked into collecting it, and though he was retired, he told me that I WILL NEVER COLLECT A DIME of the $1,150.00. That’s when he told me the trick of the SCUM who USPS hires. Unfortunately Scum People Steal

I really don’t understand how the post office that I KNOW stole and repackaged my things, is still open. I searched up MNDC Memphis Tennessee which is the post office that left a sticker on the package saying something about apologies and having to repackage it or some crap. They literally have so many bad reviews!!! And yet no one cares to address the fact that so many people’s packages have gone missing, are stolen, and just ugh. I’m more upset about the fact that shit like this happens than not having received some things. I plan on making a video because I feel like it’s not addressed as much as it should be. Sounds like Huston . USPS employee's refer to it as the black hole . Packages go in but they don't come out . A postmaster once told me that nobody has ever collected on postal insurance . He spent 40 years in the post office . A lot of times the mail is torn open on mail sorting machines and sent to a table for a person to try and restore it . Managers love to cruise this area to pick up goodies . One year we had a supervisor that stole a bunch of Walmart gift cards from torn letters . He got fired but was not prosecuted for stealing . The post office did not want to make it public . People that deserve jail time usually don't get it . A place you can steal and not have to serve time if caught .

I happened upon this video by chance. As upsetting as it is for this to happen... it's not the only case of its kind, nor will it be the last. Human beings will be human beings. It's not that USPS is a bad company... it the integrity of the individual on the line here. There are thousands of USPS employees... and not all are thieves or plot to steal valuables that people send through the mail. It's quite sad that these people easily slip through the system and get hired. There's no tattoo on their face that reads, "Theif"... so they tend to blend in with everyone. You can post a warning or an experience about USPS or any company for that matter... it's good to get your experience out there, but a thief always finds a way, no matter where they're employed. I'm so sorry that the customer service reps failed you. That is something worth being disappointed in. :-( Ridiculous. Yes, I believe they could've resolved the matter and possibly located the thief. Everything is scanned... scanned... and scanned again. Every container of parcels or pallet... scanned. And then... the parcels themselves... scanned. If it disappears from the radar... they should've been able to figure it out where and when the last scan was. Was it on the truck? Was it brought into the office? I'm with you on this one... I believe a truck driver got a hold of it. Very sorry for all of your troubles.. and I hope since this situation occured back in 2015... it was resolved.

Your is one of the best replies I've read thus far since posting this video. You see it -- I'm not attacking all postal workers, just the small handful who do things like this. There are hundreds of replies to this video from people who experienced the same thing. The horrible customer service of the USPS was the worst part of my experience. And to answer your question, no, the matter didn't get resolved. I gave up after 6 months of trying to get the USPS to provide the insured value and investigate. I didn't want the stress and they didn't want to pursue things further. I learned from the experience and only ship registered mail or FedEx now. No problems since!

You may have been lucky that your case didn't go anywhere, and this is why: A colleague of mine was called to testify in federal court about a similar experience - tampering with the mail is a federal offense, so she had to testify in a federal court. They gave her two days' notice to show up in a courtroom 700 miles away, and she had small children to arrange care for, plus her travel expenses were all out of her pocket and she couldn't afford it. She needed to buy plane tickets and get a hotel room in a big city all at the last minute, so it would be extremely expensive. If she didn't show up, she would be charged with contempt of court for failure to appear, and jailed as if SHE were the criminal and not the victim! She was forced to hire a lawyer to get the judge to excuse her (I don't remember what the legal term is), on account of appearing would cause a hardship. So she was stuck not only paying for the lawyer, but she couldn't give testimony against the guy who had ripped her off, so he could walk. She also had to spend a couple of terrified days hoping she wouldn't get sent to jail. It was a lose-lose situation.

Going through this right now, I am so enraged. I sent one of my customers (trusted repeat customer) a teeshirt and a jacket patch from my brand. She was doing a charity event so I also offered to send her an assortment of items to use for silent auction/raffle. In my error I sent it to a previous address that I had on file for her which resulting in the package sitting in the forwarding system for a week. She got the package but the only thing in it was the teeshirt she paid for. The patch that was in the same poly tee bag was missing. And the separate teeshirt poly bag that had all the donation items in it was missing. The package arrived in tact to her so there could not have been a "items fell out situation". This is infuriating to me that this happens. I'm now going to have to file a report and keep an eye out for this stuff to show up online. Hi. I’ve just had a similar thing happen with a parcel in transit from MO to Australia and it appears the swap occurred either in or more likely while being transported to the Illinois postal facility. It took longer than expected (a week or so longer) and when the parcel arrived it was completely missing my all my purchased contents - even the envelope was changed, but it did have what looked a lot like the original USPS white square stick on postal label that contained all original details like contents, weight, addresses, etc. inside was a roll of sticky contact shelf liner that was within the same weight bracket as my purchase. We wondered if the original label had been scanned and reprinted on sticky label paper. My seller in MO is right now trying to track down where the likely theft happened. Like yours it could very well have been while on a truck to Illinois. It is serious if an employee thief is at work and USPS must get onto this with all investigative powers possible. It’s no time for them to make excuses or try and shirk responsibility as it seems they have a conniving thief or group of thieves on the payroll. I’ll follow your story
@LiciAlish

I've watched this video a couple times and read the comments saying it was a mistake, not theft. But I do believe this is theft for clearly obvious reasons. Ok, let's say that his package was ripped open through one of the sorting machines and some postal employee looked at it and said, "um, there are some comics in here and the contents says comics...so let me put random stack of paper inside, seal it up and send it on its way" - which shows incompetence, by the way. That still doesn't explain the two months he said the package was missing nor why it showed up in Chicago. I live in Florida and according to the USPS, ALL outgoing international mail for Florida goes out of the Miami or Jacksonville hubs - why would his package be in the Chicago area months later? How does that make sense? Secondly, he said the tracking information stopped during those two months. If packages are constantly scanned, as people have commented, there would have been a trail leading to Chicago, right? Not to mention the weight of the papers stuffed in his package equaling the total weight that would be stamped on the package. I'm looking at a package my friend sent me and the weight is right there with the price. There are too many fishy things that happened in his story to just say it was a mistaken ripped package. Theft happens everywhere! I work for an insurance firm and you should witness the scams people try everyday. It's insane what people do for the smallest, dumbest reasons.

This is absolutely horrible. Just today I noticed that a package I ordered from Victoria's Secret was supposedly delivered this Monday. I live in an apartment building with a mailbox for each apartment - only the tenant who lives there has a mailbox key as well as the USPS worker that has a master key. I also had a small package that was deemed "delivered" in March through Amazon which I also didn't receive. How is it that the tracking says the packages were delivered and currently in my mailbox and I didn't receive either of them? This is ridiculous and I have already filed another complaint and will go out of my way to ensure anything I buy online will never again be shipped through USPS. I truly hope that you can get some closure to your situation and that they bust these conniving, greedy workers.
@natschmat917
@natschmat917 8 лет назад
The two items that were stolen were a small fragrance mist and a tube of lip balm. My mailbox isn't that big, but I I think they would have fit. Not sure how the seller packaged them, it's possible they could have put it in a slightly large box, but I'll never know since they were stolen. My first complaint to USPS was acknowledged but the best they could say was "Sorry", and they completely ignored the second one. What I do now is constantly monitor the tracking number and I know roughly what time the postal worker comes, so if it says "Delivered" and I go check the mail only to find the item is not there, I know who stole it. Another thing that the postal workers do is leave my packages with the super of my building because they are too lazy to come up to my floor. I don't like the super of my building, he's really shady and not a decent person, so I feel really uncomfortable with him being in possession of my items.

natschmat917 This happens with me as well at least 3 times within the last year and a half. I receive my mail through a CBU, and parcels are delivered inside one of the parcel locker and the mail carrier put the parcel key in my mail slot. I then use the parcel key to retrieve my parcel. It is supposed to be secured because the key. What I noticed, the time of text notification of the scanned parcel is when my mailman usual time of delivery, but I didn't go get my parcel right away. 1 day or 2 days later, I go to my mail, and I don't have the key. This means, the parcel never got to my box. I wonder- how did the scan said it was delivered in my mail receptacle? I suspect there might be an extra key to the parcel lockers. You might have to pay more attention.
@rurallife2514
@rurallife2514 7 лет назад
Sue - There are extra keys to the parcel lockers (customers lose and break them). It is possible someone claimed they lost the key but kept it, so they could check for parcels. If you actually have the newer CBU boxes (as opposed to NDCBUs), the parcel locker key is retained in the lock when used (the carrier adds a 2nd key to retrieve it). That would limit someone in possession of a spare parcel locker key to 1 use, so a maximum of 1 item stolen. Far more likely is that the item was delivered to the wrong mail slot, and a neighbor decided to keep it. There isn't much more that can go wrong if it is scanned as delivered into mailbox, and then isn't in your mailbox. I've occasionally heard of a former tenant keeping a key, and checking their old mailbox after someone new lives there, but that's very rare (the customer door locks are a common cabinet lock, costing around $8 at a hardware store, which you could easily change out in 5 minutes with a wrench and a screwdriver, if you ever wanted to).

You can get parcels delivered to your PO Box from companies that do not deliver to a PO Box. You simply use the street address of the post office. So instead of PO Box 1 you would use 100 Main Street (the actual address of your post office) and instead of PO Box use Unit and then your PO Box #. Example: John Smith, 100 Main Street, Unit 15, Your City, State and Zip Code. We get these deliveries daily and put the parcel in the box if it fits or a notice to come to the window to pick up a parcel.

This is absolutely right. I sent non-perishable food stuff to a homeless shelter through the Redford Michigan post office. 2 months later I get a pre-printed stock flyer, with handwritten scrawl saying I must come pickup my package and pay postage or they would destroy it. I had no idea what they were talking about. I went to the homeless shelter I sent the goods to, and was told that they never received it. As it turned out, the shelter has it's residents "receive" the mail. It was received, repackaged and "taken" to the post office without paying postage. The post office accepted the package, now weighing more than what I sent it with. No postage, no return address, they opened the package, closed it up, and sent me the note 0 based on my return address. When I asked, in the time after anthrax in the mail, an d letter bombs, why would the post office accept a re-wrap, no clue who dropped it off, and send me a pre-printed note? Further, since the weight was different, why would they accept it anyway? Without seeing the package, and speaking to one of the 3 supervisors of this facility (I asked the same story of each.only to be responded to with shrugs and a whole lot of defense and "not my fault or problem", I told them if they wanted to "blow up" pasta, beans, 10 lbs of rice, and some canned store bought tomatoes them be my guest. I even suggested they contact a couple of the radio stations and have them come down for the detonation, so the public could see how the USPS deals, in detail, with donations and flagrant disregard of their own rules in a post-911 world

The USPS has been a disaster for decades. Regardless of what you were told, USPS employees are not closely supervised. Entrenched unions along with a country club work atmosphere result in packages missing, delivered late, mistakenly returned back to the sender, and stolen. BTW, that pass-the-buck procedure that you had to put up with is unofficial SOP at the USPS. They are clearly not in the problem solving or customer service business. I'd pay extra to ship with another carrier. They're private sector and provide better service.

One solution is to send your parcels Registered Mail. This is of course more expensive but it's also possible to buy stamps on Ebay at a discount, so this will mitigate the cost a little. The big advantage is that Registered Mail (or as we mail carriers call them, 'reds' because the tracking number sticker has a red border) travels in separate sacks and aren't processed through sorting machines. Reds have to be signed for by EVERY postal employee that take possession of them in transit. I've received reds for delivery that look like they were never even mailed! No scrapes or dented corners or holes. Also when the clerks take these reds from a customer they have to tape the corners and then stamp the parcel along the edges with a date stamp. It will be obvious if the parcel was tampered with in transit and in the extremely rare case that it does happen, the postal inspectors and OIG take it VERY seriously and there will be an investigation. Since you deal in rare items, this method might be worth the additional cost.

jeffw1267 i work in the registry and yes that is the safest way to send things but it is very very expensive. A letter alone could be fourteen and up. Let alone a package. Every stop that package makes has to be scanned and sacked separately but it happens too but rarely it gets lost.

If this happens again. When you get the tampered package. Don't open it!!!! Take it to a place or if you know someone in law enforcement. Have them open it and dust for prints. You never know. Make sure when they are shipped that 1 person handles or wipes them off before packaging them. I guarantee you those morons aren't smart enough to think to wipe them off before sending them to you. You can choose to pursue or drop it. Hope this helps. It did for me.

I had a UPS driver steal a package from me. I called the depot to complain that it had been marked delivered online, but hadn't been. The next day it "miraculously" showed up in my driveway with the delivery driver claiming it must have been taken of my porch by animals. The thing is it snowed over night and there was no snow on top of the package, and the package was opened, but NOT by animal teeth.

I am so impressed that you are not showing any signs of anger. Same thing happened to me. It took months before the local Post Office in my country to notify my friends about the arrival of the package that I sent from Israel. Though they did not open it, the employees of that particular Post Office wanted to steal the entire package. But they were scared because it was sent through Xpress Post. Non-delivery would be terrible.

I have heard many stories about the facility in Chicago(Chicago ISC).(Note that this facility is a separate facility compared to Chicago USPS.) People have posted to online sites that their packages will sit for anywhere from a week to months in the facility. From what I have heard, the facility is very unprofessional. People have also said that when they attempt to contact the facility about a missing package, they're told that after a package has processed through facility, they had no idea where their package is. All in all, this facility is notoriously known for many packages either being stolen or lost. Unfortunately, I only discovered this information after I had ordered two different packages that sat in the facility for a week after being processed. These packages cost me around seventy dollars. I'm not sure where exactly your items were stolen, but if I were to take a guess where it would've been, it would be that facility specifically.

Sorry to hear of your loss and it's been a while since it happened. It could be a coincidence or a clue, but the trucking manual put inside the envelope could indicate the theft was done by a contract mail carrier. I work for the USPS, and they use a lot of contractors who come into contact with the mail daily. Contract carriers are contracted by the USPS to transport outgoing mail from several post offices in tractor-trailers semis to mail processing plants in the afternoons where it is sorted and transported back to the offices as incoming mail in the mornings. There have been a LOT of contract carriers arrested for mail theft because they are in possession of the mail while in transport and they can access it in the back of their trailers while they are out on the road and nobody's watching. Contract carriers can have hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail in their possession everyday so there's a lot for a dishonest contract carrier to pick from. Because a lot of the contract carriers drive semis, a trucking manual would be something they would have laying around. These days, the sanctity of the mail is a joke because the USPS lets a lot of other people who are not USPS employees have access to it.

I have had three packages go missing this year that never left the post office hands. Postal person said they put things in box but I go out right after they come. - nothing in box but mail. Post office says if they marked it delivered that they delivered it. Expensive lesson to learn for me but they should be watching employees. If I order anything, I make sure it is not coming USPS.

Yes i am a postal worker. Yes there are thefts just like everywhere else. The usps contracts private truck companies. What happens is those jiffy bags tear. If someone can see inside they may help themselves. We get many many torn packages. Some the address is not on and pretty muchnyou can kiss it goodbye. If someone stuck a truck manual sounds like the quickest thing they can get their hands on. With all the letters and packages we have to deal with, i believe we have a good track record. To,protect your package, place it in a sturdy box and definitely insure it.

The package was mishandled by the worker. It looks like it went through the Flat Sorter Machine, jammed, and ripped apart when clearing the Jam. Then the damaged package was placed in a hamper with several damages pieces that was collected in an 8 hour shift. The hamper then goes to re wrap and all the damaged mail is to be put together like a puzzle. Since the processing plants never staff re wrap, ( it doesn't affect their numbers) it can sit there for a long time. The missing comic was probably caught in the belts, shredded to confetti by the processing machine then sent to Atlanta. The paperwork you have was probably in the hamper with all the torn mail, and the clerk probably thought it was part of the package. Thick packages should never go through the flat sorter machine, inexperienced workers aren't trained to cull properly and have to learn by experience. I sell on Ebay so I periodically test the tracking system. I notice that when scans are missed, the system automatically propagates information to close the tracking number out. Tracking numbers are recycled every 90 day. Letters and Packages are mishandled constantly because management wants their productivity numbers. I try and ship all valuable products in a box with lots of padding to protect myself from these instances. I'm not saying there aren't thieves, we have people walked out. They are mainly the low wage workers that are jealous they do the same work as permanent workers but make almost half. They usually steal letters that contain greeting cards, those are the ones that usually contain gift cards and cash. Call center staff rarely come from processing plants and have no idea how they work. They were probably winging it the whole time with you on the phone.

Thank you for the informative reply. After dealing with many defensive postal employees who have been trolling this video and leaving nasty immature comments, it was nice to read your comment to see a well presented possible cause of this issue. The acknowledgement that there are some bad apples in a good bunch of hardworking people is refreshing. However, based on the information you provided, there are two things that still don't add up for me. First, the package did state the number of books inside in the contents section of the declaration form affixed, thus inserting the loose driver compliance manual pages would be a foolish mistake by a clerk. More suspect is that the weight of the inserted manual pages equaled the amount of books taken out. That is just too coincidental for my tastes. Secondly, the redirect of the package to Chicago (two months later) also made little sense - even one of the customer service reps I spoke to couldn't clearly explain why that would happen when Miami is the international hub for all Florida-based mail. As you stated, there are many errors going on within the USPS and it's unfortunate. Your comment on the call center staff sounds dead on - so many of them were absolutely clueless!

That's certainly a possibility. It could also have been CBP. As far as I'm aware, USPS has no idea what CBP is doing with a package until it's release. I know if I order something from overseas, a lot of the tracking information won't populate until after the package actually clears customs. It certainly could've been CBP that took the contents as well, especially since the package was returned into the system at the Chicago ISC.

I had an issue with the post office and was given the run around. It was marked delivered and I got the alert and went to the mail box. Nothing was there. The mail person dropped of mail later. Apparently they go through and mass scan packages "delivered". I also had a neighbor that the same thing happened to her and she was two blocks away on the very same day, but all of our packages were marked "delivered" on the very same minute. This was after the run around to get to speak with the local post office manager. He brushed it off. Only the post office has the power to mark a package delivered and keep it. It gives the customer no recourse. Nothing the send back.

This is the reason I try not to use USPS. This happened to me once where they said the package was delivered to me but it never was. Good thing is the company I ordered from resent the item and opened an investigation with USPS. Maybe if they have to put out more money on insurance claims they'd care more about inside thefts.

Yeah..... That's USPS all right. I've had delivery slips sent to me a week after a delivery was attempted saying I wasn't available to receive the package :/ I also had a t-shirt taken out of a soft envelope that was in my mailbox. No attempt to cover it up. They left the gaping hole there. :( With the low pay for such a customer facing job i don't see how it will improve.

Something similar just happened to me and this is apparently triggered by certificate & money Insured . This was a nightmare of 2+ hours waiting on line to speak with a Indian CS rep who did not speak English. I INSISTED ON A ENGLISH SPEAKING reap , another two hour . Finally someone I could talk to got on the line and said . "the package shows as received. " And she went to investigate. After 4 days I received a NOTE on my door the package is at the post office (they never rang) . Apparently the driver and a clerk had a bit of business going on. They hope people give up and the merchant settles for the insurance. USPS has become a nest of crooks and that is spilling to FedEX

As a former bonded long haul truck driver who has picked up & delivered mail from UPS+ FEDX + UPS I can say outside of being involved in an accident, it's virtually impossible for a truck driver to go through any mail.We enter into a facility at a designated time & present our ID; from there we are assigned a dock to back into, then are required to hand over the truck keys & told to wait in a special room where we can't see what they are loading. We are notified when the load is finished, given back our keys & told to pull forward a few feet so They can close the trailer doors. A seal is attached to the trailer doors along with a security lock so no one can tamper with the doors until we reach the destination, where one of their employees checks the security seal as we enter to see if the doors were tampered it before it is opened again. Some facilities already have other trailers which are pre-loaded & pre-sealed so we simply drop the trailer we brought in & pick up the new trailer, no waiting involved. In any case all facilities have checkers at the gates while leaving to re-check the seal again before we leave. We are never allowed to stay any longer at any of these facilities.We are constantly tracked along our route & where we deliver the load to. Of course this doesn't apply to local drivers delivering the mail. As for your package getting lost on my end I would venture to say it's quite possible it may have been loaded on the wrong trailer which is why it went to Chicago. Why it took so long to discover it is anyone's guess, but all Chicago Postal Facilities are huge. Anyway, as for who opened it or why does appear to me possibly one of their dock workers. I'm sorry your package got lost & tampered with. It has happened to me in the past too; very annoying. But by comparison to how many peoples luggage turns up missing on airplanes I guess the shipping services do a pretty good job. One bad apple doesn't mean you throw out the whole basket!

You need to remember that outsourced contract carriers ( Sodrel ) etc. transport the mail over the interstate system not USPS. As a driver and union rep. with the USPS we see millions of small packages like this everyday move through the system without incident. We do not reference the trucking handbook which was used as a filler so that leads me to believe that perhaps the package fell out of a container in the trailer used by an outside contractor and found later when the trailer was not sealed and without a load of mail. This is only a theory but it should be considered since we at the USPS who drive tractor trailers and the 11 tons used nationally, would like to eliminate the use of outside companies transporting the mail when it should be done by the loyal and responsible union members of the APWU.

Im completely frustrated with USPS, in a matter of a week I've had three packages stolen. One at the sorting center, another out for delivery and never arriving, the third is just in limbo. This is no coincidence, someone is stealing my mail and while it may be tough to hear its definitely a postal worker. I am currently waiting on a package and scared that it won't arrive just like the others, I don't know why any company uses their services. I completely understand how frustrated you were their customer service its a complete joke if you could manage to talk to one of them, due to the insane hold time I usually hang up.

I wrote them immediately when my package was gone. They conveniently have now had 2 of my packages disappear on a weekend day, end of day where they send notice of delivery, but to a p.o. box or parcel box. I DO NOT HAVE ANY. Now one package doesn't exist. I call b.s. on USPS and they make it realms hard to even complain or get ANY response. It exists for protocol . They do squat. I used to have charity envelopes with coins cut off the envelopes. Mail opened. Important looking documents, credit card envelopes, bills, OPENED. Boxes smashed open. Items delivered to 'a neighbor' when I'd PAID for signed delivery and was HOME, as well as getting slips on my door from various delivery services that they 'missed me' but what they do is slap the note on the door and leave. They don't even try. There have also been various USPS workers in my area who were stealing mail and it hit the news. They do the weekend scam because you cannot contact ANYONE by phone. Their social media ignores you. Their online forms do nothing. Good luck with that. NO response. They even say they DON"T have to contact you about any investigation on their site. It's b.s. and taxpayers PAY for this poor service. It used to be that I knew my postal delivery people. Now you never know who is coming, if they are coming, nor when they are coming. They process tons of mail. Your one item will mean nothing to them.
