I saw her live at Gov Ball 2022 and her set was one of the most chill sets there. She just kinda did her own thing and it was pretty cool, especially since her music was quite different from the other artists there
I appreciate that. It’s not all about subs for me, I like learning about artists anyway so why not make videos out of what I learn. One day I’ll get the subs.
I originally heard her song coffee when I was looking for chill songs to listen to at school on Spotify. than death bed came out I was like " huh that part sounds familiar" and I checked to see if I wasn't tripping about hearing her part before. Sure enough coffee was in one of my playlist and I ended up listening to it again.
I’ve been recommended her music before, but had never heard her before.. I love that she loves Kim Gordon, growing up in the 90s i’d always listen to sonic youth etc
I don't really listen to her but was really surprised with the path she took. I figured it was going to be a Shiloh Dynasty type artist but she is like a British rock star. Wild.
I swear to god powfu blew up because of this song and still his music is lit also can u plz review the “When the Hospital was my home” review and compare it to death bed plz
When looking into this video I did not expect her to have gone down the rock path, sounds good just figured she was the typical melodic lofi type stuff
the fact that she listed Kimya Dawson as one of her inspirations, makes me emotional every time, since Kimya influenced a lot the way I write poems and overall I love her music
Love that you're talking about Bea, but I had one minor issue with your analysis? You're right in saying Coffee found success when she was still in high school and she hadn't considered music seriously as a career, but she was pretty established before powfu featured it; she had released Lice, Patched Up, and Space Cadet. I'd like to think she took music on as a career when she signed onto Dirty Hit and continued making those Ep's under beabadoobee which is all before Deathbed blew up and made her more popular --- but I do agree that Deathbed brought her into the mainstream but again, she already had a label and releases under her belt. But yeah, she's super underrated even still, so thanks for talking about her :-)
But you’re missing one more point. Even before powfu making death bed, there was an artist who actually sampled coffee, it was otterpop. If im not wrong then i guess powfu actually took otterpops version of coffee. I used to hear that song basically everyday in 2018. It wasn’t much a hit back then but powfu did make her and himself a hit. Please credit Otterpop too
In the interviews I watched she didn't really mention him, so if I try to show her story she didn't really know about it as far as I know. But if it did impact her significantly I should've mentioned it, I just don't know if he did or that the song existed in the first place.
@@MattMiranda looking at the timeline, otterpops version existed back in 2018. It gained few 100k views back then and that’s how i became a fan of beabadoobee. But that same exact sample was used by powfu and rapped over it and it became a hit. Otterpop was one of the first person to actually sample bbdb. But I’m pretty sure she wasn’t aware of otterpop but technically speaking otterpop had his hands in both powfu and bbdb’s success one way or other.
@@MattMiranda yes if she unique to you then winner. But to be truly unique is impossible. Bjork has been the closest I can think to naturally unique over the years. As long as people are being themselves they have won.. Take care ✌️
@@MattMiranda the story of the band lush is fascinating. Some joy some heartache. Mikki is Hungarian japanese daughter of a bond girl and her drummer took his life so its very bitter sweet story for their success. Their music stood out back in the 90s thanks to her and the 4ad vibe they created. As I say very interesting story worth a look 👍
@@MattMiranda i feel like the one youre doing rn is a bit too.... sudden ig idk what its called but the camera quality is good i think you should check out Peter McKinnon or some other people they have great videos about camera switching
