The Story of Jared

Jared is my spirit animal. PSA: when someone plays poorly like this, please don't ridicule them. I've been in a lot of games where someone on the team is just ripping into the lowest performer, complaining and telling how bad they are. This really doesn't help the situation and all it's going to do is make the person feel like shit and probably perform even worse. It kind of ruins the team vibe as well. Instead of ridiculing them, maybe give them advice on how they can do better next time or just don't say anything. They know they suck and are having a hard time. They don't need you to point it out.

Jared is a masterclass of passive aggressiveness to troll your team. Got headshot by Wilson. Then subsequently fucked again by a Wilson mid smoke. Followed by a few unlucky peeks into berating in text and voice chat from teammates. He would need to be a monk to not be thinking “fuck these guys” by round ten. It’s entertaining that he plays it off cool enough to not give any indication of whether he’s just bad, maybe unlucky, or outright trolling. Jared is the spouse who catches their other half sending spicy texts to a stranger, but keeps the secret and keeps the anger hidden for years. And gets revenge by slowly radiating negative energy over decades of staying together. Their partner always feels something is off, but never able to put their thumb on it. And life goes on, with the poison ever present in the relationship. They’ll do little things like earning a low salary, pretending that it’s all they’re capable of. But in reality its to diminish the quality of life of their partner. They’ll have low ambitions, not out if laziness or lack of ability, but simply to lock their partner in a lower middle class or just above poverty lifestyle forever. At the end of their life, they do something out of character that shows a spark of intelligence. Their eye sparkles with brilliance for just a moment. Then they die. Without ever confirming suspicions one way or the other. Was it trolling? Was it lack of ability? No one will ever know. A secret they’ll take to the grave, that they were the hidden tormentor of your life. Content with merely making life as uneventful and mundane as possible for you as an energy vampire. The ultimate form of spite and retribution.

Single greatest video you've made, Wilson, seriously. I love when RU-vidrs do these creative and experimental projects. Jared will live forever in my heart, and I will remember him in my moments of need.

I do kinda blame him for the bad buys after tilting, but I don't blame him for leaving at the end. Definitely was having a bad game, started tilting, and then got self conscious/anxious once he got called out and felt like a spotlight was on him. The response to him finally doing damage must have felt really patronizing and dehumanizing to him. I know it's frustrating when you have a teammate that's having a bad game, but this is why it's important to try to take a step back and have empathy for them instead of directing negativity at them. Let them know you understand off games happen so they don't feel that pressure. Try and set them up for a positive play by flashing for them or letting them bait you or something like that. When they do something good, give them some nonchalant praise like, "good shit," but don't condescend. I think a lot of people that take their frustrations out on teammates playing poorly try to justify it by saying they're trying to motivate. I know some people respond well to being challenged by teammates/friends/loved ones, but I don't think most do. I think the vast majority are more likely to either tilt further or just shut down, so you'd just being hurting your chances of winning as a team while also causing another person some emotional distress. Not that I'm saying Jared was treated horribly in this particular case, but these are just some thoughts this video brought to mind. Very well made video, Wilson; you've been my favorite CS content creator since I found your channel a few months ago. Keep up the good work.... shame the vod wasn't available, huh?

When I was ten I would play CSGO with my cousin when I would visit over summer. I remember going entire days without a single kill. I feel for Jared, it sucks.

One of the biggest issues with CS2 and CS:GO was that when you had no rank you would be paired with people of various ranks every time. GOD FORBID you get paired with high ranked players and you're playing a map you dont know, like Vertigo. The level of insults thrown at you because the enemy team are all at Shroud level good and you can barely flick without throwing your mouse across the room! My Gawd I sincerely hope that these players some day receive this, to feel how low it puts you mentally when a game you were once pretty good at, is now a struggle to just stay alive. I too am a Jared.

Completely agree on what you said in the end. It happened to me many times before, i was so frustrated and out of ideas that i just can't do well, no matter what. This applies to most things in life. The best thing to do is to make a pause and come back later, i guess that's what Jared realized in the end :P

In a 1000 elo 13 - 0 game I would expect the bottom frag of the losing team to have at leaat 100 damage. This is ridiculuous. Jared is a legend and an icon.

0 adr makes a little more sense when you look at the guns he buys. Outside of pistol rounds, he is buying precision weapons or slow firing weapons. Matter of fact, he seems like he is constantly saving for AWPs. Still a nightmare game, but a little more understandable with those circumstances

Without Jared games, those popping off games wouldn’t feel so darn good

I was on that stream, lol. Sad we can't have his pov. I can't imagine how bad was this game for him. Sometimes I can't get a kill for many many rounds, but i do some damage anyway. This is truly insane to have 0 damage at 16th round and not being trolling. Legend.

I just wanna say thank you for not trashing Jared during the game. I've had those bad games, especially on Inferno every now and then, and it was amazing to see you show humility towards someone having a frustrating experience. Great story telling and video Wilson. 🙂

Reminds me of a cs2 game I recently played. I found a couple of guys online and got in a discord server with them. There was 1 kid like 14 years old who wouldn't shut up the whole game and each round when he annoyed us we kept putting up a ban vote for him and he would beg and plead for us not to kick him and that he would behave. It was legitimately the most fun game of cs I've ever played

This is one of the single best videos about Counter strike ever. It has the same feeling of: "Leroy Jankins" in World of Warcraft. One random player, that maybe get more popular, as he intended to be.

The worst thing you can do in cs is tilt. Because once you do, you start playing really stupid. When this happens to most people, they probably don't even realize how many bad decisions they make while tilted.

Need more stories like this.

When their body and mind just refuse to cooperate, then they know the real pain of jared, then they know what a huge sin they have committed by laughing...at JARED. Currently cs2 put me so low in elo, that I always perform at least somewhat well, but I know the feeling of being frustrated because nothing works, you try if playing differently helps (which often ends up playing some stupid gimmik) and it doesnt. Its incredibly depressing because I just doesnt seem to matter what you do and on the same time other people look down at you or are mad.

Love these videos Wilson. While this one is obviously a little different than your "how-to" stuff, your videos have this awesome calming effect that I try to take with me into Premier matches. I was wondering if you (or any other commenters here!) had any advice for people playing with friends who are newer to CS than you are. I understand this is less than ideal from a competitive standpoint, but at this point in my life I play games mostly to improve and to have fun with my friends. And yet, I'm competitive enough to get frustrated when I can't carry or the team as a whole struggles. Yeah, I know this is a contradiction and I am bringing this on myself. Just wondering if anyone had any insight.
