I like his new role as Din Djarins new droid in The Mandalorian... R5-D4 now accompanies the Mandalorian and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) which will allow R5 to have some excitement in it's life... as of this time, R5-D4 has left tattoine and is on Mandalore, in Bo Katan's ship

To me it's just awesome when I saw that R5-D4 was there! So after all the adventures he's had he's still alive and kicking. Kudos to Filoni and Favreau for giving us Star Wars fans so many awesome nods to the original trilogy. The Mandalorian just feels genuine and like real Star Wars. That other stuff from Disney ... not so much (Rogue One wasn't bad though but the rest could have been much better). Now I want to get me droid parts from Disney's Droid Depot so I can have an R5-D4. I already have the (boxed) R2-D2 from Droid Depot and it's very fun. Now I've already written down all the parts I would need to turn an R2-D2 from Droid Depot into a R5-D4. Then the two of them could sit in my living room chatting with one another. 🥰

sXeblues The galaxy is a big place and has droid galore. It's far more unlikely that r5 DOESN'T have thousands of lookalikes. That was just a similarly painted droid for a head canon explanation.

I don't think R2 was attempting to sabotage R5. In the book R5 states that his model of astromech cannot be deceptive, unlike R2's model. I think R2 altered R5 so that he could lie, or at least be a better droid so that he could understand the importance of what was going on and do something about it. R5 makes it clear that him blowing a gasket like he did is something he should not have been capable of doing.

I agree, at the end of the story it seemed more likely that R2 had modified him as R5 was surprised that he could deceive.

Update 2023 - The Mandalorian This little astromech droid is now even more of hero after assisting is saving Din's life! :)

_Mit_Whit _Gaming_ I agree, but I think this is actually a case where I think the legends part of R2 just sabotaging R5 seems more logical than luck that he also had ties with the rebellion. But I do agree that the new canon just makes more sense than the uncontrolled legends. But it is cool that Star Wars basically has it’s own whole archive of myths that may or may not be true just like we have in real life.

A. Letting them rot is better? B. Luke wasn’t there. He left to his aunt and uncle, so they had to wait for him anyway. C. True, but why go back? D. They could still take the sand crawler. As for the bodies, maybe they do burn their dead. Leaving the bodies to be dealt with by someone else seems kind of mean.
