Smokin Jay Cutler will forever have a warm place in my heart

Cutler had six different offensive coordinators in nine years and when he came to Chicago, Mike Martz got rid of his best target Greg Olsen. Then he was expected to throw to project receivers like Devin Hester, Johnny Knox, and Earl Bennett. By the time Brandon Marshall came to town the offensive coordinator carousel was in full swing. The Bears management ruined him.

2011 and 2018 are by far the biggest gut punching loses I've witnessed as a bears fan. I was only 10 when they lost in the SB so don't remember much

As a Bears fan I will NEVER understand the hate for Jay Cutler while worshiping Jim McMahon. Like it or not, Cutler is the best QB the Bears have ever had while Jim McMahon was all hype and image over results and he acted like a drunken 17 year old most of the time. His sorry passing numbers make Rex Grossman look great, he put his fragile health at risk trying to be macho and he rode the league's best Defense and best Running game to a Super Bowl ring. Never threw for more than 2,392 yards in a season. Never threw for more than 15 TDs in a season. Only toped 200 YDS per game once in his career and only played in 7 games that season. Threw 90 INTs vs 100 TDs for his career. Those are sorry stats yet somehow HE is the fan favorite while Cutler is the anti-Christ. Steve Fuller could have started every game in 1985 and the Bears would have still won the Souper Bowl.

Ah Jay Cutler. Little story. My mom gave me like $5 to get a book at school I had been begging for at the school book fair. When it was time to get the book my 6 year old self saw the holy grail. A Jay Cutler poster. I buy the Jay Cutler poster thinking it was going to be so cool to show my mom. She was pissed 😂. Mostly at the fact that it was Jay Cutler funny enough. Edit: I still love Cutty.

2010-2013 for the Bears was such a brutal time since they all those seasons showed promise but ended in gut punching fashion

The 2007, 2019, and 2011 seasons were some of the most brutal seasons to watch as a bear fan. We went into these seasons scorned from last years loss but still hopeful the team can pull it together. Just to have all that hope ripped away in the first few weeks of the season. This team perpetually has no backbone whatsoever, it’s truly sickening to watch.

Thanks for this video! That was a painful season. As a lifelong Bears fan, I was really feeling optimistic about this particular team until Cutler broke his thumb. It was as painful as any other Bears season.

To be fair to Trubisky if the Bears had chosen Mahomes in the 2017 draft he’d have washed out as well. Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, anyone would fall on their face as their QB.

I think too big of a deal was made over Cutler leaving the NFC Championship Game, if my memory is correct, Cutler played like crap that day, they were down 14-0 at the half, and if anything, Caleb Haney brought them back into the game, they lost 21-14

I wasn’t a bears fan but I loved watching cutler play. Some of the best arm talent I’ve ever seen. Could make unbelievable throws with screwing looking footwork and without twisting his body. Touched by god kind of shit

Would've been cool to see the Chicago Bears take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl 45. The last time they meet up was in 1946, 20 years before the NFL-AFL merger. Would've been crazy to see.

Don't forget their OC Mike Martz(fmr. HC/OC of the GSOT Rams) didn't think Greg Olsen(TE) would fit in his pass happy scheme and subsequently traded Olsen before the start of the season for a 3rd round pick in the 2012 draft

It was down hill once they brought in Phil Emery and Trestman. Those two ruined any chemistry of what was left of the Smith teams not to mention completely slapped Urlacher in the face with their joke of a contract offer.

Have you considered showing the plays that you describe in your narration at the same time you narrate them? It's slightly confusing to the viewer when you state that Cutler threw a touchdown pass to receiver X while the video shows a fumble recovery, for example. This happens constantly throughout this video.

1st off, Bobby Wade won a championship in 63. Jim McMahon won a Superbowl, one of the greatest performances by a defense AND until that time, offense, in league history. McMahon was in every sense of the word, a FRANCHISE QB. Eric Kramer was 'almost' great and Trubisky, like ALL Bears QBs in their defensively dominated history, got screwed by a TERRIBLE management. Ted Philips needs to be hung with the credit for destroying the Chicago Bears FAR more than the players. There are ALWAYS potentially great players at every position waiting for the right team to pick them up and properly coach and manage them. The Bears have been languishing in noman's land for decades because of Philips, moreso than ANY other factor.

I was 13 when the bears traded for Cutler, and at the time, i thought it was a red flag that Denver was willing to trade Cutler. He never had a winning season in Denver, and he was still a turnover machine. His flaws was just amplified in Chicago because they couldn’t protect him. But when the bears got the draft picks to build around Cutler by drafting guys like Kyle Long, and Alshon Jeffery, trading for Brandon Marshall, and had the money to resign Matt Forte, and sign Martellus Bennett, Jermon Bushrod, and Matt Slauson, Cutler didn’t get better. The offense in 2013 played better my opinion with Josh McCown than it did with Cutler. I think the bears would’ve been better off long term if they would’ve just moved on from Cutler after 2013, resign McCown to a short term contract, and if they was bad in 2014 like they were with Cutler, they would’ve been in a better position to draft a qb high in 2015. Hindsight is 20/20 looking at Mariota and Winston’s careers. The bears probably would not have developed those guys, but if they was still bad, they wouldn’t have been paying a qb and a roster full of aging vets big money to be bad. And the reason why the bears would always unravel when Cutler went down or when he wasn’t playing well was because the bears refused to bring in competition at the qb position. They rarely invested Day 2-3 picks at the qb position. They always brought in vets that bounced around the league and didn’t challenge or threaten Cutler for the starting job. And during Cutlers time in Chicago, some good qbs that became franchise qbs, or atleast decent backup qbs came out in day 2 or 3 in the draft that the bears could’ve taken.

When it comes to the Bears and Quaterbacks, everyone always trashes them. I'd just like to point out Jim McMahon. He gets dumped on, too, but I'd just like to point out that he was a better quarterback than he gets credit for. When the Bears won the Super Bowl in 85, it was not just about one of the greatest defenses of all time. The 85' offense was 4th in DVOA, and 2nd in points scored. While McMahon's stats that year were largely average, (2,392 yards, 15 touchdowns, 11 interceptions), it was McMahon's preternatural ability to sieze the moment that made him a good quarterback and a better one than we remember. Any analysis of his 3rd quarter comeback against the Vikings in 85' suggests this (3 touchdowns on four consecutive passes after riding the bench for the whole game). It's one example, but i firmly believe that had his career not been ruined by a Packer illegally body slamming his shoulder to the turf between plays in 86', McMahon would be regarded as a better quarterback in Bears history than he currently is.

Cutler was the man. How can anyone say that he didn’t care when the chased down the defender after a pick and tried to tackle him and then broke his thumb? He played while being injured plenty of times.

BTW...that Denver game had way less to do with a botched FG attempt and way more to do with the fact that if Marion Barber simply stays in-bounds on that run, the Bears win.

Denver traded him for Kyle Orton and “some picks”… lol those “picks” were 2 1st rounders and a 3rd that ended up being DE Robert Ayers(over Clay Mathews), CB Alphonso Smith(over Earl Thomas) and TE Richard Quinn. Thankfully they blew all those picks otherwise this would’ve been as bad as the Trubisky trade That trade netted the 49ers Solomon Thomas, Fred Warner and a few other picks(from trading the 2017 3rd and 4th). Thomas was a bust, Warner is a star, but both teams whiffed hard not taking Mahomes 🤦‍♂️.

People have talked about how the Bears from 2005 to 2013 were the ultimate whack-a-mole franchise. They had a complete team except for at quarterback. Then by the time they got a quarterback the wide receivers and offensive line were bad. Then by the time they got Cutler some weapons and fixed the line the defense had collapsed and the new coaches were terrible

I was always confused by why they fired Mike martz after the season. Although Caleb hanie wasn’t great, when cutler was healthy the offense looked Super Bowl ready.

They should be treating Cutler like Michael Jordan in Chicago.

Jay Cutler was and is statistically the best quarterback the Bears ever had. (I know that’s not saying much.) point being that the Chicago Bears organization top to bottom is and has been a dumpster fire for a long time, especially if you’re a quarterback. The fact that this man hasn’t come out years later and trashed them publicly says a lot about his character, the Bears certainly had no problem, trashing him for their failures. Cutler just didn’t have the personality of your typical NFL QB that’s all he’s guilty of. He was a tough SOB, yes a gunslinger but could make every throw a pro QB needs to make. Oh yeah an Cutler was the most sacked QB in the NFL during multiple seasons with the Bears.

How is it people ever viewed Jay Cutler as a franchise QB. Yes he put up some lofty numbers at times but he was so completely reckless with the football. There are some QBs who throw interceptions but Cutler threw some of the most soul crushing and inexplicable interceptions. I understand he had a new offensive coordinator seemingly every other year but we had a golden opportunity to move off of Cutler with Josh McCown who was racking up big numbers and winning games in 2013 when Cutler got hurt and was playing like trash 🗑️. No we roll him out with the division on the line vs. the Packers. In fairness Jay played well and was not the reason we lost that game. But Josh should have been given the chance to be out there that game. But no we chose to pay him as the highest ever paid QB at that time. Jay was horrific consistently from that point forward. And i also remember saying to everyone that trading for Cutler when we were good with Kyle Orton would set the Bears back a decade and that prophecy held true.

I've always contended that the Bears could have done what the Giants did that year and won the Super Bowl if Cutler didn't get hurt. The team was rolling before the injury, was going to make the playoffs with that easy schedule and could have pulled off the upset in Green Bay.
