Ian and Ellen from Lincolnshire have been together for 23 happy years, but have never married. Two years ago their worlds were turned upside down when Ellen was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The couple have decided to get married at record speed whilst Ellen’s health is good enough, something that could change at any moment. Arrangements are in full swing when, with just weeks until their wedding, Ellen develops a cough and is rushed into hospital, jeopardising everything.
David and Nicky, from Cirencester, have been together three years. An accident seventeen years ago left David paralysed from the chest down and when his marriage ended ten years later he thought he wouldn’t find love again until he plucked up the courage to try online dating. David met Nicky after she took a shine to his profile and after two years together he popped the question. But the couple’s route down the aisle is full of challenges; not least David’s worry that he won’t be able to put the all-important ring on Nicky’s finger as his paralysis means he doesn’t have full use of his hands.
