I’m from Mission, TX and when I was in Robstown visiting I google searched for somewhere to catch a bite. The review on Google read “this chicken makes all other chicken places look like babies.” I thought it was a bold claim. But it’s true! I dream of this chicken. And I gots to know what’s in that seasoning!!!
This channel makes me want to move to Texas. I was there for college and got hooked on chicken fried steak and Tex Mex. You just can't find it anywhere else. It tastes just perfect.
I grew up in Robstown then moved to Houston when I was 15 and I miss home but what I miss the most is the Barrera's Fried chicken. I plan to go visit family this month but secretly mainly for the Barrera's Fried chicken 🤭.
I watched this video 2 hours after my lunch, and then I decided to order some take out any fried chicken I could find online. Imagine how powerful Barrera's Fried Chicken is.......
When I lived in Kingsville my professor recommended this place to us and I don’t know why I never went but after watching this video I wish I had 🙃... sounds like I missed out!
@ Selena Yes Selena, their chicken is absolutely delecious! I live approximately 30 miles away. My late uncle introduced this chicken to my family and I in the early 90s. We've been a fan of Barrera's Fried Chicken ever since. He used to work in Corpus Christi and commute from our town and brought some to our home to have dinner one evening when he returned back to town from work. Just like the owner stated, my uncle found out about it through word of mouth. Their chicken pieces are pretty big and incredibly juicy with flavor. But the kicker...is their secret seasoning that they put on it. Oh, man! It strikes your tastes buds with glorious satisfaction. Haha. We would pick some up sometimes when heading back home passing through Robstown. Haven't had some in about 5 years now. Maybe now is the calling to change that streak soon. I love these types of hole-in-the-wall restaurants. They typically have great tasting food with fair prices. It's nice to break away from the fancy wine & dine and support these ma & pa establishments. Plus, Mr. Barrera is such a nice man. I'm actually glad he doesn't break from his norm and relocate. His place gives that homey feeling style of eat-out when these type of family owned businesses were more prevalent in the past. I bet you used to frequent Youngs Pizza while attending TAMUK, huh? I love their Texacali subs. Or maybe Big House Burgers? Did you ever get to try King's Inn Seafood in Riviera while living in Kingsville?
That’s cool y’all go to the small town spots across Texas. Now I know where to go next time I’m in my hometown of Corpus Christi Tx when I visit my brother in-law In good ol Robstown

I love fried chicken & I love fried gizzards, livers & hearts!! I also love fried calves liver & onions, even when I was a kid but what do you expect from a kid who also loved veggies lol! I'm 63 now & I still love all those things lol! I'd love to visit TX & go to all the places you've been to on your show! I live in Northern Calif but we have a lot of 'shit kickers' in our state to & I've always been a Cowgirl!
I recently visited this spot for the second time in my life and it is not disappointing, I look forward to my next chance because I live three hours away and it’s awesome.
I live in TeXas and I had never heard of Robstown before. You can tell this guy is genuine and loves to cook, satisfy his customers. I've seen several people say he sounds Irish (how?), he has a straight up, old skool Chicano accent! Greetings from the Big D!
Doing some work around Robstown..I just had this yesterday, didn't know there was a video on your channel about this place. It was really good. Ordered fried fish too. THAT was amazingly good. Super long line every evening. Worth the stop for sure

This is THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN EVER! The only thing is you are suppose to put gravy over the chicken and let it soak in!! Then give yourself 3 hours to sit on the couch and digest the deliciousness!
I live close to Robstown Texas and I have heard people talk about how good that Barreras Fried Chicken taste. I’ve never tried it because I don’t really drive through Robstown. I really need to check it out some time though. I need to see what I’ve been missing out on.
A double liver! I have to try it now in honor of my son who loved Popeye's Fried Chicken and was an Aggie! Dude, you're making me hungry!!! Corpus Christi is the place to be, btw.
I wonder if this was the same building as a longtime grocery store that was known as Barrera's Red and White Store? My great-grandfather's uncle and cousin used to run that, and I'd be curious to stop by even more if that was the case!
If you go, get the standard “beef” and dip it in the red sauce. Yum. Also maybe try the cream cheese w/ jalapeño, if you wanna do any specialty tamales.
" Restaurants here in south Louisiana sell fried chicken liver and chicken gizzards. # YUMMY TO THE TUMMY DELICIOUS ! ... LOL 🤣👍 👍 I'm a 62 year old lady who loves gizzards and livers ! Cajuns eat anything ! " 🐔
