I used to refuse to go on this ride because I thought I hated roller coasters but when I tried it out I fell in love. It's such a creative and impressive ride! The waiting area was extremely impressive! New favorite ride along with the mummy!
Two small corrections: 1) "Ranked as a top 50 steel roller coaster for 14 straight years from 1992 to 2012" We meant 1999, not 1992. 2) "Only rollercoaster at Islands of Adventure" We forgot about Flight of the Unicorn/Hippogriff. I haven't been on it in over 10 years so I forgot it even existed.
Fun fact: Flight of the Unicorn opened in 2000, replacing the first half of Dueling Dragons' queue. (Yes, that queue line was even longer, and featured a whole village and woods before the castle.)
I haven't ridden the new version but based on videos I have to say the old theming was better - in particular for the launch, which had a much more shocking effect due to the surprise factor. The voiceover going 'I think it's going to work' suddenly changing to 'WARNING WARNING' and the siren going off was a brilliant way of utilising the unique ride system and the main selling point of the ride really. Besides that, it's still a top class rollercoaster but that was the scene which made it special.
And we will Ryan! We're waiting for more information about the new Harry Potter coaster so we can do a complete video on the history of Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge.
@@ThemeParkHistory Harry Potter and the Forbiddon Forest is what I'm hearing it's gonna be called. I might be wrong on that title, but it's gonna be a steel launch coaster that I know.
@@ThemeParkHistory thanks for doing this show. Because of you and Defunctland, I've rekindled my love of theme parks and started diving into their history.
@@ThemeParkHistory Well, the replacement's been confirmed. It's gonna be called Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and it's gonna be a launch steel coaster opening this June. I'm also excited to hear about they're building a Jurassic World coaster in the Jurassic Park section of Islands of Adventure!
I noticed the update of the ride placed VERY bright lights in the launch. I'm assuming this was to prevent people from passing out in that very harsh transition from dark tunnel to BRIGHT sunlight. Very good improvement lol.
TheBitBlock I’ve personally experienced the exact opposite. I used to ride the old hulk often and never experienced any dizziness or blacking out but ever since they have refurbished it I have blacked out for short periods of times every time
I went on at 9 at night not knowing that back row is most intense and near the end I felt my fingers losing grips and everything was going grey lol but now I know where and when to ride haha
TheBitBlock lol. The body doesn’t work like that thank goodness. You can only black out from too many positive g forced, not from light changes. Otherwise if you got up in the middle of the night and turned on the light you would black out. 😆. If you had that happen though, it would be because of other problems.
I rode this around 2001-ish and was so impressed with just HOW FAST you get launched out of that tunnel! We rode it twice, and even after having already ridden it there's no way to prepare yourself! Also, can we talk about how well Universal does their queues with the theming, and it taking you through the story of the ride before you get on? I live in Los Angeles and Harry Potter and the Simpsons are both good examples of all the entertainment content they give you so you're not bored while you're waiting.
@@detroitdiezel7856 they used footage of the hulk coaster in the movie because one of the main characters owned a theme park. OFC the real ride doesn't launch a dummy car off the tracks like it did in the movie.
I CANNOT THANK YOU ANYMORE FOR THIS YOU DID AN AWSOME JOB THANK YOU!!! Edit: I was in this video 1:40 and I was literally shaking when I saw the opening Edit 2: I LIKE ALL CAPS MESSAGES😂
@@gechotaris If the rights do ever go back to Disney, I think Universal should go back to the drawing board with Warner to turn MSI into DC land. Perhaps even a DCEU land. I can even see the Hulk rethemed to Henry Cavill’s Superman and the queue taking you through through the Superman ship.
@@tinsote7176 honestly would be awesome i could easily see this ride getting a retheme. superman or batman would be an obvious choice but i’m hoping they’d go with someone more cool
An attraction that still holds up and will continue to do so, it rattles my head pretty hard but is definitely one of the cleanest designs out there. Also, man did the early 2000’s lend itself perfectly to Marvel Super Hero Island. Another great video Jack. I’ve been impatiently waiting honestly. I’ve watched that footage with Scott Trowbridge so many times, so fascinating to see the R&D for any attraction. Looking forward to more IOA videos. 👍🏻👍🏻 👍🏻
It is also known as Terror Incognita. In the opening scenes of the movie “House on Haunted Hill (1999)”, Stephen Price (Geoffrey Rush) introduces the coaster as Terror Incognita. “From here on out, things get really scary”.
B and M didn’t specifically design the Hulk to make it roar. That’s just a consequence of how they build their rides every single BM coaster has that roar.
The Hulk is my favorite roller coaster! I've yet to experience the updated version but it looks great too. I do miss the classic narration in the launch tube though. "Everything looks good. I think, I think this time it's... going to work!". Would love to ride it again someday! Liked and subscribed!
When my family went to Islands of Adventure, we tried to do this ride first, but after waiting in line for like half an hour and realizing there was still ways to go, we decided to go do something else. So glad the line was shorter when we came back later in the day and we got to ride it. Definitely the most memorable thing we did all day.
We will be covering Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge once more information about the new Harry Potter coaster is revealing. Thank you for the suggestion Samman the Narhwhal.
Went on this on opening year in 1999 when I was 9! (Trivia, how old am I?) Absolutely fell in love with this, we happened to still be there while all the kids went back to school (I'm from the UK) and we got to go round and round the queue line multiple times while the park was half empty it was incredible! (pardon the pun lol)
I remember I would be deadly afraid of any rollercoaster that would go upside-down as a kid. I went on this one when I was like 10 and somehow did it 3 times in a row with out puking. This got me into rollercoasters
We haven’t done a full video dedicated to the history of Universal Studios Florida yet. We do a short recap about the history of the park in our ET Adventure video.
Ahh the last video before my vacations get over, I loved this video, I love this ride ❤️. Iam anxious to the dwelt dragons video, Wanna se my name on the video. BEST CHANNEL EVEEEER
I rode this back in 2003 when i was 9 years old - My first big Coaster with inversions. I'm from England and before that the only coaster with inversions id been on was a single loop 'Revolution' at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and the biggest coaster being The Big One. Didn't go Alton Towers for Nemesis and The Cork Screw until the year after. That holiday to Florida was amazing and this was the first coaster at the first park we visited I went on, this and duelling dragons were my favourites and The Kraken at Seaworld was good too!
Rexisacomic 27 Marvel had a deal with Universal before they were bought by Disney and Islands of Adventures opened years before the Disney/Marvel partnership.
There are no stupid questions! Universal and Marvel made a deal in the 90's that allowed Marvel characters: The Avengers/Spider-Man/X-Men/Fantastic Four to be featured at Islands of Adventure. This was before Disney bought Marvel. The deal stands as long at the original attractions at Marvel Superhero Island are still operational. This is an awesome coaster. The embodiment of the Hulk is truly captured in this ride. The coaster even sounds mean and I haven't been back since before the revamp.
"New Harry Potter coaster" that's where you're wrong buddy. That coaster was there before Harry's name was slapped on it. It was called the dueling dragons and was the best goddamn ride till Harry Potter fucked it up and started running them at different times (which will eventually break them because the two dragons were meant to ride together)
Thank you for this. I have always thought The Hulk is one of the best coasters ever. Would love to see a history on Flight Of Fear at Kings Dominion in Virginia. Another great ride that is under appreciated . Having ridden it when it was new, I would be very interested in the story behind the changes that have taken place over the years.
I really think Universal Should implement the DC Hero land... Over there fake , outdated.... Marvel Island. It's stupid now that Disney owns Marvel... And universal Studios Islands of adventure, continues to use hulk, spiderman, and dr doom. Imagine the D.C. Comic's World making Islands of adventure pretty much a all new experience and would make universal... Already having Harry Potter... A WB Park, with a whole new reason to visit universal Florida.... Religiously! Right now..... It's outdated and played out and ridiculously confusing AF! Universal would make so much money,if they used their brain's.... And made this deal with DC COMICS ALREADY!!! Bring us DC Comics World!
I remember reading that Universal actually got a really good deal on this coaster, because B&M thought it would become a showcase model for their new launch-system (and other technologies), so they agreed to cover all the construction over-costs themselves.
I rode the coaster on its last operating year.. it was still glass smooth. I don’t understand the removal of the old coaster. The new scenery and AC in the queue are very nice!
Give kids the world let me go there for free. Hulk was the coaster I was excited for. But just 2 months before the trip they announced it would close for the refurb. Luckily GKTW let me meet the people who designed the refurb and I am planning to go back in 3 years when my dad and his work go annually after I graduate from high school
Seems that way, I did as much research about the story as I could and still find it confusing that they removed almost any mention of Banner or the Hulk in the queue and story. Seems like a misstep from Universal not to include the green giant at all besides the statue out front.
@@ThemeParkHistory Kind of like the "Joker Coaster" at Six Flags that's just a ride with green and purple tracks. Not even a voice over or anything from the clown himself. It's *just* a roller coaster, nothing else.
From what I've read on some post, Universal actually wanted to work with Disney to make the Hulk ride be based off of the MCU films, using the new Hulk actor, although that fell through and instead just made the ride be based off of the comics instead.
DO DUELING DRAGONS/DRAGON CHALLENGE from universal Orlando islands of adventure in Harry Potter ! I miss it so much. I could ride it 10 times in a row and then pass out from joy 😂😭
I haven’t been to Universal since I was like, 8 or 9.. I’m 23 now. All I remember is the doctor doom ride, spider man, dueling dragons, Posiden’s fury & Jurassic park. I was so scared of the spider man ride when I was a kid, I remember my older brother making fun of me and making me keep my 3-D glasses on the whole time. But ooh, I got him back when we went to Posiden’s Fury! He was deathly afraid of water & I loved it & loved swimming. So when the door opened & there was a vortex of water, I told him the bridge was going to break and we were going to drown. Lol, then, he was the big crybaby 😂
We will be covering Dueling Dragons/Dragon Challenge sometime this year. We're waiting for more information on the new Harry Potter coaster before we release the video. Thank you for the suggestion J.T. Hill.
