Upon seeing the bickering between the two Doctors, the Time Lords decide to send in more reinforcements -- this time in the shape of the First Doctor. Can he stop his successors from arguing long enough to figure out what is going on? Amusing clip from The Three Doctors, first shown in 1973.

You knw, I've often heard people ask why why the other Doctors respect the First Doctor so much when they are all older and/or wiser than him. The way I've seen it, it makes perfect sense, The First Doctor was born and raised on Gallifrey, he developed as a child and an adult into what he was when the show started, he is essentially the core personality, the person that lies underneath every other doctor's quirks, the person you have when everything else is stripped away. He is the literal embodiment of everything the Doctor is at his heart and soul.

I also think that the doctor may have spent the longest time in his first body as the first doctor is an old man so we can assume he’s aged in that body for a while also it must take a few hundred years for a time lord to age into old age assuming he stays in the same body for long enough, like when Matt smith spent approximately 300 years on a planet and only looked like a man in his 70s.

Hold that comment for one more dsy. When Chibnall retcons the first doctor being a black woman
@DoctorWhoKage
@DoctorWhoKage 4 года назад
@@dimitris6258 no, he didn't. That was just a conclusion someone drew up without watching throughout the whole episode. In fact, The Doctor says that she can remember all her past incarnations and she said that she doesn't remember the black female version of herself. My guess is that this "Doctor" is really The Valeyard. Or maybe the first regeneration of The Valeyard. The Master said way back in the 80s that The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of The Doctor's nature created somewhere between The Doctor's 12th and final incarnation. Meaning that the events of the episode, "Fugitive of the Judoon" was just one part of a collaborative plot by both The Master and The Valeyard with The Master being the brains behind all this, of course. And that black female Doctor was acting pretty dark and could've killed the Judoon who were arresting her had the 13th Doctor not stepped in. All these clues lead to that "Doctor" actually being The Valeyard.

William Hartnell was supposed to have been in the studio, but a series of strokes left him mostly unable to do much of anything. He had a few 'good days'; that's when they drove him to a studio, put him in costume and makeup, and got him to read a few lines off cue cards in front of a camera as the episodes were re-written for Troughton and Pertwee to carry the load. It was the best they could do.

***** Kind of pointless, if you ask me. I can understand not wanting to get typecast as one particular role, but the fact is, when you play a role as big as the Doctor, that's what you're going to be remembered for above all else, and it'll be the same with Eccleston when all's said and done. This is all epically true here in the USA, since most everything these actors have done apart from DoctorWho isn't so well known either. When Eccleston's old and tired, no matter what else he did, DW is going to be the role that people ask him about, as opposed to, say, his 3 or 4 episodes of Heroes.

@@MichaelBradley1967 Not at all the case actually. The way they avoid time paradoxes with Doctors meeting each other is that time will eventually "fix" itself, iron itself out so to speak, and only the most recent (or, in-universe, oldest) Doctor will remember anything that happened. Otherwise these stories just wouldn't work logically because the Third Doctor would already know how to solve the problem since he would've seen it as Two, who would have been involved as One, etc...

That is of course the paradox...The First Doctor is often considered to be the oldest, wisest and most experienced - but of course he isn't. The most recent reincarnation will always have the most experience and knowledge. (In fact asking the first Doctor for help is akin to asking your Great Grandfather to help reprogram your computer for you....) I guess you just have to "ignore the elephant in the room" for this one - and instead concentrate on the character's traditional portrayal as fatherly, wise and protecting.

Brilliant line for Mr Hartnell and priceless to see them all together albeit very briefly. Hartnell was of course by late 1972, when this was starting to film, in poor health and couldn't remember a single line without the aid of cue cards hence his appearance on the TV monitor screen only. It would have been magic to have seen them all together with the first Doctor chiding and berating the other two as in the recent Day of the Doctor with John Hurt.

Bryce Lozier Based on the comments in the story "Dalek" I've thought that another regeneration, not The Ninth Doctor, ended the Time War, but The Ninth Doctor had to live with the emotional damage of those actions. To me, although The War Doctor might have been inserted in between The Eighth and Ninth Doctor due to Eccleston's apparent refusal to return, The War Doctor was such a strong character that he felt like a natural part of the story and not just as a place holder. I put much of the credit for this John Hurt's performance. Despite his short on-screen time, he came across someone who had lived through The Time War and was finally pushed to his limit.

I think the idea is the FIRST doctor is also, IRONICALLY, the most MATURE and COMMANDING Doctor. While each of the Doctors take CHARGE the 1st is better able to think CLEARER because of it. The others tend to be TOO GOOFY for lack of a better phrase to really take command. The Second and Third are shown not able to LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE here due to their SQUABBLING. It REQUIRES the 1st Doctor's intervention. A shared STARTING POINT may also be the reason. Each of the Doctors had to be the FIRST. There has so far been no Doctor to show any DISRESPECT to the FIRST. This could be because the FIRST WAS well THE ORIGINAL. While I think some might find the First DISTASTEFUL they also RECOGNIZE his LEGITIMACY as them. They can "get over it" unlike what the 2nd and 3rd seem to do. So technically IN UNIVERSE one can argue he has the MOST EXPERIENCE, CAN THINK THE CLEAREST, IS RESPECTED BY THE OTHER DOCTORS, AND CAN FORCE THE DOCTOR TO WORK WITH HIMSELF. That's how I justify it.
@kaos2317
@kaos2317 10 лет назад
not so. The 1st Doctor had lived about 743 years as himself before regeneration, while the 2nd Doctor only existed a mere 3 years before the Time Lords forced a 3rd regeneration and the 3rd Doctor also existed about 3 years when he encountered his previous selfs during this crisis. So even though the 2nd and 3rd has the memories and the accumulated knowledge of the 1st they're both lacking in personal actual experience which is why the 1st Doctor can take charge, with the confidence of true experience and age.

DarthRushy The First Doctor started the series as an old man, while the Eighth was still fairly youthful in the short prequel where he regenerated into the War Doctor. And if you're relying on non-television sources, you can trace a fairly consistent timeline of the Seventh through the Virgin New Adventures by the development of his companions. Timewyrm: Genesys begins shortly after Survival, because Ace is still a teenager, and Lungbarrow ends with the Doctor being given a mission to retrieve the Master's remains from Skaro, which occurs at the start of the movie.
