Of you want to buy some land and a house a put on your filipina name make sure to go to the solicitor/ lawyer and sign the contract with her that you own it or both of you and that she can't sell it without your permission! I think it's wise to keep your life as simple as possible for first couple years there until well settled in and know the ropes. EXPAT really stands for EXPECT XTRA PAYMENTS AND TAXES so plan your long term budgets wisely. Have heard medical insurance just goes through the roof at retirement age and not worth it there. Being British could always fly home if able for some treatments if cost effective as is free for us, but yeah budget for emergencies i totally agree with is a must.

I agree with you that probably 70% at least of the American expats are really what I like to call poorpat's. That is one thing I really did not consider when I was moving over there at the age of 59, the quality of the other expats. It definitely did not meet my expectations. I will say that. I guess I got very lucky as far as women I lived with a lovely woman for one year and I am in the process of bringing her and her two children to the United States they actually finally get to land in the United States June 9th took me about 1 year to get the visas. I'm very excited to show her the wonderful opportunities the United States has. On a side note, I live in Florida, horse country, so we do not have a lot of the problems that other states have.

Foreigners cannot own LAND. Foreigners CAN own 100% of any structure that is built on land they are leasing. Meaning that the owner of the land would need to either buy the structure at the value that it is worth in the market. OR they would need to both agree to sell the LAND and the structures. The owner of the land only gets the money from the value of the land. Just get a lawyer people. Stop giving money to anyone when you have zero rights after it is spent.

Men in the Philippines need to be smart with their money, you shouldn't be making less than $1,800 monthly before moving out there!

NEVER move to another country without GUARANTEED income. The ONLY thing "budget" videos are good for is getting an idea of what things cost, other than that they are worthless. YOUR budget will depend on YOUR lifestyle and needs, ONLY YOU can figure that out. Lead with your wallet and that is all you will ever be seen as, LEARN the word "NO" and use it. I'd say it's better to look poorer than you are, less people will ask for money. I think one of the reasons why so many ex-pats think foreigners are just walking ATM's is because of the stereotypes and stigmas about Filipina's. But there is always SOME truth to stereotypes, with scamming running rampant there, it only reinforces those stereotypes and it gives the appearance Filipina's are only interested in money and not the person. When it comes to Filipino's saying it, that is coming from jealousy and the crab mentality. Separated is NOT single, ask for that CENOMAR. If opening a business, just like land, you DO NOT OWN IT, it has to be 60% Filipino owned, being the minority owner, you can can be removed from your own company.
