Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna of Russia (1899-1918) was the third daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra. Known for her compassionate and cheerful nature, Maria lived a sheltered life marked by imperial Russia's luxury and strict protocols. Her life tragically ended when she and her family were executed by Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution, symbolizing the dramatic fall of the Romanov dynasty. Her death remains a poignant chapter in Russian history.

Thank you for this series about the Romanovs, especially the children. I can’t understand why the butchers who murdered the family thought that killing innocent children was acceptable. If Maria and her sisters had lived I think that they would’ve been a positive force for good in the world. RIP OTMA.

Thank you for your kind words and for watching the series on the Romanovs. It's truly a tragic story, but their memory lives on.

Yes these kids were amazing. So much so that the hateful Bolsheviks had to change the guards because the guards who were dealing with the family like them so much they knew that they were not going to be able to be harsh with them the way the Bolsheviks won it so they had to change the guards out because it was too hard not to fall in love with this family

They were victims along with millions of others of their parents. Remember there would have been no Bolsheviks without the misrule of Nicholas and Alexandra.

That's just it the Bolsheviks of the time did not want there to be a continuation of the Romanov family line. Don't forget the romanovs were a ruling family there in Russia for at least 300 years. The people were growing tired, they were growing weary, and now of late they had begun to starve and there was mass starvation going on throughout the country. In addition the Bolsheviks felt that because the girls were of marriageable age they did not want there to be a continuation of the Romanovs. If in fact the girls were left living and their parents were dead.

Hi Jon! This video was worth the wait. When I was watching it my heart melted. Maria is my favorite of the sisters. I think she resonated with me a lot. I recall one book (long time ago) Col Kobylinsky (I think), who accompanied Marie and her parents to Ekaterinburg when the others were left behind in Tobolsk due to Alexei's hemophilia attack, developed a crush on her. Not sure how true that was though. Her nanny Margaretta Eagar was gossiping about the Dreyfuss affair when Marie ran out of her bath. There was also a possibility she was a hemophilia gene carrier. When her tonsils were removed she bled more than the usual. Prince Carol of Romania after being rejected by Olga asked Nicholas II if he could marry Marie instead. Nicholas laughed and said she was still a school girl. Maria would've been a great mother.

Olga rejected Prince Carol of Romania's suit. In fact all the girls didn't like him. Olga said that she is Russian and wants to remain one. I guess it was the same with all the sisters.
