The TRUE Case of Seo Soojin (two years later)

It’s been two years since the first accusations were made against Seo Soojin. From it initially starting as a big wave of many idols being accused of bullying, Soojin’s case would be one of the main few that generated so much buzz. Victims were increasing as more stories started to pile up. However, because of the increasing attention and victims, the case got convoluted with everything being thrown around being relatively blindly trusted as true. This is my reporting and analysis into the case of Seo Soojin and why she cannot be found either guilty or innocent of the bullying that’s been accused of her. Obviously analysis means that different understandings can be made so I have distinguished fact and opinion within the video in order for viewers to understand what I have connected and what has just happened in regards to the timeline of this controversy.

the thing that upsets me the most about this is how unprofessional shin ae went about this. i understand she may have felt wronged seeing her “bully” receive so much love but to make all these subliminal accusations when you know how intense the public can be with this kind of thing was so spiteful. it really didn’t have to be this way. and the fact that soojin came out with a CLEAR letter addressing everything and taking accountability for her own mistakes should’ve stopped the anger towards her in their tracks. when has an idol accused of bullying ever done something like that? you could see how genuine and transparent she was being in hopes that people would understand and how much she wanted to stay. this was her *dream* .just so sad
@cloudchungxiao

Yea, considering she was an actual victim to bullying, she really shouldn't have been so subliminal if she wasn't completely sure. Plus I get she has her own rights to choose how to go about it but atleast respond the Cube's attempt to speak. Like her and her comapny kept ignoring all this and it literally could have been handled behind close doors to completely clear all this but she continued on to be petty af.

Watching Nxde get so big and popular internationally really made me sad for her. It was completely unfair she wasn't there with them. And she's basically been blackballed from the industry now. I really doubt anyone would work with her. Can you imagine literally spending the vast majority of your life training for a career you finally get the career and then it's unfairly ripped away from you right before you reach the success you've spent your life training for?!! What can she even do with her life now? She has to choose a whole new career.

I feel like one of the things that sadly made her weak and all of this is her honesty. I've seen many responses from idols with the different accusations, Soojin was by far the only who actually elaborated the problem she had with the accuser. Soojin also admitted that she had done some mistakes and wasn't the best student, which gave haters a reason to hate but to me it was clear evidence that the accusations were false, like why would she admit such things that would set her up? And the firmness in her saying that she would leave the group if found guilty and even asking the actress to speak out was a clear behaviour of someone who knew they weren't guilty. And while people claim that the conversation between seo shinae and the Neverland was prolly false, tell me why SHE didn't come out and say that it was false? Her silence says it all. SSA knew damn well that it would ruin Soojin and when it was already done she shook it off and acted as if it wasn't her fault. And she knew what she was doing when refusing to use Soojin's name in her accusation. And if you take a look at every claim in this story, the only person that never changed their version was Soojin. Every single accuser had come back to say something different that didn't add up to their previous claim. Overall this is a really upsetting thing to me cuz I have a feeling we will see Seo Soojin as a star again. Gidle without her just isn't the same. Kpop without her isn't the same. I honestly had to take a break from kpop because of this huge injustice I could only witness and do nothing about.

Yea, that's the sucky part. She's been consistent and upfront about everything and yet its been used as a weapon to tear her down. It's so hard because it's another instance where you have to question these alleged victims which once again you just don't want to believe are making it up. BUT the math aint mathing and so you're just left either losing faith in people because we accumulating so much of these fake victims or we've been supporting someone who has been problematic but from what we know, it seems slightly more obvious which sounds a bit more legit.

I'm an OG Neverland (as in I started stanning during LATATA era), and I always sided with Soojin. The moment Victim C's sister spoke up, I could smell a smear-campaign because of (G)I-DLE's success. Aside from the fact why they're only speaking up the moment (G)I-DLE was killing the chart list, I am a victim of school bullying, and I thought some of their allegations like the theft were absolutely ridiculous. According to them it happened in front of the school gates... Where everyone could see. Even most idiotic teens will do something they know is a crime not in front of the entire school, and I had a kid in my year dealing drugs who I suspected was involved with drug cartels because I lived nearby a drug cartel's HQs and he knew all about a rivalling drug cartel and their beef with the one I lived close to in a way that implies inside knowledge and that he was involved with the rival gang. I was cyberbullied amongst things for making a comment about him and his friend group being trash as one of my classmates was involved and my entire class + their friend group seemed to defend their actions. Mind you, he and said classmate literally threatened the life of a kid in the year below us who caught them dealing but I suppose when you and your friend group are the most popular in school the threat on a first year's life isn't that important. They were stupid assholes, but they weren't that stupid to do it where a teacher could see. If the kid wasn't brave enough to snitch despite the threat on his life, they wouldn't have been caught. In that instance, I wished my school had acted a bit more like the Koreans because both were only suspended for a few days, not even a week. The fact she actually admitted to smoking, and had a different perspective of some things, to me was the proof of her innocence. Why would she say things that could risk her career (which she still had at the time), by admitting she used to smoke when idol culture is very much anti-smoking? Why would she admit to some things, and defend herself against the more ridiculous claims? That's the way someone who is speaking the truth and owns up to the mistakes they did make would act.
@cloudchungxiao
@cloudchungxiao Год назад
Yea, with everything that's come out, it feels strange that we still cant confidently say shes innocent in the sense of it is sufficient evidence in a legal sense. There's so much dismantling that can be done but society's given more power to victims because people just really cant believe people would stoop that low to make things up. Plus the added multiple victims that would come out, it would literally make zero sense for so much people to make things up and yet they did. I do lowkey wanna hear more from people against her though just to get there perspective because either its just difference of opinions in which their values lean towards inclined to believe all victims or they know something i don't

@@cloudchungxiao We can only speculate, but smear campaigns and hate bandwagons have became more prominent in fandom cultures. I feel like, in the case of Soojin, there might be some alumni including C and her sister, who were jealous of her success. Considering there was that statement about Soojin actually being the one who was bullied, I have this feeling they always saw her talent and were threatened by her outshining them so they tried taking her down a peg. Now they see that they failed, and they were enraged. It was one of the reasons why I was bullied too, I'm pretty much considered an artistic genius and I'm in the process of going through the details and plans to open my own Etsy shop once I'm done with the illustrations of my first finished manuscript. Some of my bullies were genuinely envious of my talent and would mock me for any drawing I did screw up even though I was already doing art commisions for free because my butterfly tattoo designs were popular amongst my female classmates (I was like 13 when I started doing various commisions, but I actually did my first when I was 11). It's what happens when people know you have it in you to make it big, you'll find people who resent you for absolutely no reason other then envy. In Soojin's case, they probably thought that because of the fact she did smoke, and became an idol known for her sex appeal and often would show her tattoos, that it would be easy to defame her and paint her in a bad light because she already had a 'not too innocent' image Worst of all, they were right.

@@inferiorinferno8859 - If you see some of the things the alumni would say, can't remember the quotes exactly word for word, but in a nutshell, they said that they were even ashamed to tell people that they attended WAW middle school, as it was a breeding grounds for rumor mills. Even through all of that, no alumni ever said that Soojin had a bad reputation tho. Only the accusers said that. I haven't seen any alumni who spoke ill of Soojin. I do remember some of the alumni saying that C's sister was never an outcast, that she was a quiet kid, but no one thought of her as an outcast. And that was the picture that C was trying to paint, that Soojin got everyone (a group phone call spread down through the whole school) to think of C's sister as an outcast. No alumni ever said so. It's a shame that after Soojin stepped down from the group, that's when the public opinion for her started to sway in her favor. And that's where we are now. I-fans don't know enough about the case, they assume Koreans still hate Soojin when things have really calmed down, and just when you think things are okay, newscasts talk about "The Glory" and start re-naming Soojin and others and keep them in a bad light. But if the members keep mentioning her, they must know something that we fans don't. And I'm hoping so. I have a motto, it's "Always trust Soyeon". We'll see where all of this takes us, but I have a feeling that the final pieces of this have not arrived yet.

Inferior Inferno Yea, totally get what you're saying and sorry that you had to go through that. Defs for C's side, they really added on the msot random claims that were less harmful and more on the ruing Soojin's image. I kind of heard what happened to Soojin back then, but I wasn’t a fan of Idle until recently. With the amount of false accusations that came out in Kpop industry in 2021, I think I can safely say Soojin case is still one of the most talked about. Looking back having the benefit of hindsight, rather than having the mentality to support and believe the victim, we as human being, have the responsibility to critically assess the situation before believing either side. What happened to her was really unfortunate. She had her whole career in front of her, her group was doing so well and she seemed genuinely loved being on stage and performing with the girls. To think we live in a society that let a girl’s lifelong dream and hard-work crushed because of unproven claims and accusations…it is such a shame.

The age should be a factor of consideration for sure but then also some others may develop so much mental health issues because of the bullying. Obviously it never got to this extent, but the korean show, The Glory, is almost a perfect example of how it can kinda psychologically traumatise people even as adults. Plus Korea is not all rainbows and sunshine and their culture and way of life might be way different so the severity and ability to approach certain aspects of life might explain why some trivialise this. So yea, its like a whole bunch of factors that create such decisiveness when looking at bullying allegations, which that kinda should be the main focus. Looking at whether you can actually prove.

Not much to say since you covered this so well, but let's add to the fact that alumni had stated that C and her sister were asking them if they had any photos of Soojin six months before the initial accusation. This explains two things: 1) Victim C and her sister lied because they said they were making the accusation at that time because the website ( I think it was Naver?) was removing a certain feature in their comments forums, so they felt they had to make the accusation right away before that feature was removed, and 2) This explains why Soojin said in her first statement that she knew exactly who the anonymous accuser was, since her friends had already warned her six months before then that C and her sister were looking for photos of Soojin (to make their accusation seem more realistic - this was something C and her sister were in the midst of concocting). There's no other reason someone would be going to solicit pictures of another alumni ten years later, there would be no excuse for that type of action, except to cause another person trouble. And there's no way Soojin would have known who the accuser was beside her alumni friends had already forewarned her. Also, the fact that Seo Shin ae was the poster child for school bullying. Seo Shin ae deleted her verbose statement from the internet all together. If you are a poster child for this type of cause - and it is true - there is no way you'd ever remove this statement that you made for any reason - unless it is a false or embellished statement. And it was. SSA said in that statement that Soojin would curse her in between every class in the halls and in the cafeteria every day, day in and day out, for two years. And yet, there are absolutely ZERO students who remember this to even back SSA up that they saw or heard Soojin doing this to SSA. Not even one. Zero people came out to say they saw Soojin doing this to SSA. And every single day in the middle of a crowded cafeteria full of students? Add to that fact that alumni proved that Soojin and SSA had classes on different floors (regarding SSA's mother's letter disappearing at graduation time, and also allegedly that Soojin had placed a pack of cigarettes in SSA's desk) - impossible according to alumni due to the fact that Soojin and SSA had classes on different floors. So if their classes were on different floors, how was Soojin harassing SSA on SSA's floor in between every single class like SSA wrote in her statement? This is just not possible. But why did SSA just decide to delete her statement from the internet? For no reason other than to just delete it? Why? It just fits absolutely no form of logic for SSA to just remove her statement from the internet for no reason. Thank you for your video. It is still important for many of us who love Soojin and (G)I-DLE that this never be forgotten - for Soojin to never be forgotten. We still love Soojin and it's obvious that her members still love her very deeply also. Your video is greatly appreciated!

@cloudchungxiao Год назад
Wow thanks for this extra information. But yea, theres so much inconsistency and things that can kinda reduce the credibility of C and Seo Shin Ae but can we completely just say that all of this was lies? There was so much false allegations to and many that had been disproved. There was an actual unjustified hate mob against Soojin that were basically making up most of it but also validated the ideas of Soojin as a bully because the more alleged victims come out, the more "credible" it seems even without evidence which is so bad. They have also yet to provide any sort of evidence that can actually make the claims seem legit to whereas Soojin has been able to prove certain things with other helping her debunk others and so that's why I lean more towards Soojin. It's really disheartening to even think that people are this heartless to even ruin people's lives like that

I think SK needs to make it law that if a person or news outlet is going to publish accusations explicitly naming someone as the perpetrator, a police report is required to be lodged by the victim and produced. If you're willing to say it you damn well better be able to prove it. Because I'm kind of tired of this whole ignoring me or having an argument with me or doing something I don't like but is not harming me...is bullying. None of that is school violence.

Yea, I mean specifically with SK, they need to treat false reporting a bit more serious. Bullying is being used so broadly that the word has lost its meaning. I’m sure that everyone has had friendships end on bad terms as children especially because kids are emotionally immature and don’t have well developed interpersonal skills. If any bad social interaction is reframed as intentional bullying then you could have both sides truly believe that they were a victim. If a shy child doesn’t reciprocate when others try to talk to them, does that make them a bully? It just seems like people are quick to assume malicious intent and cast others as bullies when in reality kids are just dumb and still learning how to be people.

it is really a shame that we live in a world where people don't just wait until enough information gets released to form a reasonable conclusion or when the whole case gets resolved. I kept tabs on the case as it was happening with a neutral stance. I was a bit suspicious when the accuser decided to come out with it now rather than the very beginning of Soojin's trainee days. She waited until IDLE was really at the tips of the peak to drop it. I believe in second chances in most cases if the person themselves proves they are a better person now than back then. And I've seen enough fan interactions with Soojin as well as stories of her with the other members to be convinced that she really is not the person she was at 13. Heck, Soojin's behaviour throughout the entire ordeal just shows that she's moreso innocent than guilty, and I do give her credit for the honesty and professionalism. Even if she did made some poor decisions in her youth and did admit to making mistakes, to me, her time in GIDLE and how others spoke of her shows how much she has changed for the better since her school days. The public reaction really didn't help imo. I do hope that Soojin is doing fine now. I like how GIDLE whether intentional or not puts some sort of reference to her. Do I think she can return to stardom? I actually do but it's unlikely. However we have seen some cases where serious accsued idols do bounce back to much warm reception; T-ARA is a prime example. I believe one AOA member who was originally accused of bullying but turned out to be a victim is making her comeback (pray that reception is kind to her if true). No doubt Soojin is keeping contact with her former members but more underground so to speak
@cloudchungxiao
@cloudchungxiao Год назад
Yea, its that confusing thing where if she was a bully, I guess motive is an important thing. Because the victims would like accountability as opposed to just being changed because that's like one of those things where you may wonder whether they changed to be famous or whether they actually like reformed. But yea, the whole jumping on every new article and making a whole firestorm didn't help. Everything was coming out and I was there and missed out on certain articles and reportings that would have influenced my decision differently too. But yea, as for her comeback I would be keen to see where she wants to go. I mean T-Ara had a proper uno reverse where the bullying contreversy got turned to where we saw the victim became the perpetrator. As for AOA, idk if Jimin was necessarily a victim, it was just more other factors but a lot of experiencing things differently that caused the slight riff that Mina felt.
@Haegemon
@Haegemon Год назад
@@cloudchungxiao I like you mention the case of AOA because beyond the cases where there is malice in the intentions to sink the career of another person, caused by some old vendetta... there are also the cases where people just do not connect and their interactions just cause stress, and then it depends how each one interpret the situation. Accussers always hint but never explain or when they do, the horrendous crime turns to be so meaningless that I wouldn't dare to call that bullying, not in the sense people in the west would consider bullying. But always is the mob dynamic of the netizens what caused the new bullying among adults, no longer school issues. And also puts the accused in a defenceless position because he's under public judgement with no chance of a fair trial.

Yea; we really are a reactive society where we need to instantly react or that's a statement in itself to some people. All of these bullying accusations make me mad, as a victim of extensive social bullying I think it's dangerous to label every "incident" as school violence. There's a huge difference between actual violence (eg The Glory) and social bullying. My bullies decided in preschool that I wasn't allowed to befriend anyone in our grade. I spent 6 years at that first school absolutely miserable from having no friends and being made fun of for having acne, running slow, having a disabled brother etc. Those girls never did anything violent towards me, yes the bullying permanently shaped me as a person, but I'm not out here looking up where they all work now and trying to get them fired. You just have to hope they have become better people. Any incidents of actual violence should have been handled properly by the school and police and parents and if it wasn't, the blame should be on the authorities. Put them on blast if you felt your bullying wasn't dealt with properly! They failed their duty of care! But no these accusations that keep pouring out are clearly only looking to damage reputations and get attention and maybe money. If they sought justice they would have contacted lawyers, the old schools, police etc. Oh and wasn't there an exposed secret chat room several months ago that literally orchestrated online attacks on certain idols? I wouldn't be surprised if many of these accusations are coming from these troll farms with no validity at all

We don't hold children responsible for their actions (are you the same person you were in middle school?) the idols don't get much of a chance to give their sides and it's never a "The Glory" situation, it's always something that doesn't even matter anyway. If you're still super cut up because someone cursed at you in middle school, you have bigger issues than an idol.

Obviously these might be rare occurrences but yea I think its a mixture of ensuring accountability and understanding the remorse felt because theres kinda been no justice if they were a true victim. @@cloudchungxiao - When this happened (Soojin stepping back from the group), I was pretty involved in forums with a good number of Koreans who were supporting Soojin. They were telling me, and yes it's hearsay but I believe it because it makes the most sense, that the wave of hatred had filtered down from the mob beginning to send hate statements to the members, and the members' families. Soojin could deal with the hatred directed toward herself, but when the hatred began to spread to the members and their family members, Soojin had to make a decision, and Soojin always protects the members. It was the most selfless and noble act, giving up your career for your friends. I don't know many people who would care that much about their friends to give up their entire career for them. So again, it's not like anyone I spoke with had any type of inside information, but more than a few people had told me that was the situation. Everyone just thought Cube was going to wait it out and take care of Soojin until she was justified. We never thought that Cube would dump her like they did the following March, and I think the members felt the same way, as that is about when the members started distancing themselves from Cube.

When a respected public figure wrongfully calls out another person they are doomed, the Korean public will most likely side with the accuser and then there's little hope for the accused of being cleared of the wrongful accusations made about and saved from their downfall. Look at T-ara's bullying scandal, Jimin and Mina from AOA, Kim Garam in Le Sserafim..Poor Soojin. So that mean's it would have happened almost 10 yrs ago (Soojin 24) and she discribed being "bullied" as making personal attacks at her and laughing behind her back. Why/how is this even taken seriously? are people so emotionally weak and soft now that words from ten yrs ago are to much to handle? Even worse is people allow it to happen, Guess what life isn't perfect and if you let other peoples words bother you that much all your doing is giving them power over you. So weird.

Yea, I tried to distinguish between fact and opinion because I didn’t wanna state the facts because anyone could literally read it. For me, obviously I can’t conclusively say she’s completely innocent just because there’s that slight room always since those allegation are so old and neither can prove anything. It’s just kinda based on what we know now, with the amount of fake victims, that’s why I lean towards Soojin being more of a victim. Obviously things may come out to disprove this which should be alg and then I can state for a fact otherwise from my opinion. However, you also truly don’t know these alleged victims to infer that Soojin is a bully too and that’s kinda what I mean when I talk about neutrality. Especially while everything I coming out, that is the most important thing. For me, it seems like the story kinda ends here with unlikely further things to come out and so that’s why I infer on things to come to my opinion but yea, actions do have consequences but distinguishing what the actions are is something people don’t think about. Like victim statements are just presumed as fact but with the rising awareness of fake victims, how can we just also blindly trust them like that too. It’s really just complicated honestly. But yea, hopefully people watching can see the whole time when I switch from fact and opinion at the top
@coolandtrending
@coolandtrending Год назад
Actions don't always have consequences. Look at the fake victims who were anonymous. They lied and were proven liars about this situation. No consequences ever happened to them. All they did was delete their accounts. But their actions whipped an already frenzied mob against someone and she lost her career because of it. And as far as discrediting potential victims, when you see someone who was extremely vocal about her poor sister having to hear (G)I-DLE songs and she said how much it affects her, why did this sister practice the Dumdi choreo and perform it on IG Live? Here she is saying how these things affect her sister and she has practiced the choreo so much that she knows it? Wouldn't that devastate her own sister? This is why we have to discredit those who go against their own accusations. And the sister made a big stink about Soojin being in a disciplinary hearing for bullying, and the actual truth is that Soojin was proven innocent of that by the school. C's sister was the one who said that Soojin's mom was laughing when she came out of the meeting, but other witnesses said they saw Soojin's mom very distraught. These are just a couple examples - there are more lies from them that have been disproven too. If you want to believe an alleged victim, that's fine, but at least understand when these alleged victims are caught in their own lies.
@almendriaflorentino
@almendriaflorentino Год назад
A fact. A lawyer's letter was posted proving that Soojin was actually a huge victim of a bullying incident in that same middle school. Here's an excerpt from the article. “Seo Soo-jin has never assaulted nor extorted money or goods from her classmates, and is thereby unable to acknowledge such allegations or offer apologies concerning these allegations,” Choi wrote, before adding that in Soo-jin’s first year of middle school (which is when the alleged bullying took place), “Seo Soo-jin was found not guilty by the school’s Autonomous Committee For School Violence Countermeasures”. Instead, she was found to have been a victim of bullying, perpetrated by her upperclassmen. Due to her alleged involvement in an incident of school violence, albeit as a victim rather than a perpetrator, Soo-jin was given a warning by the committee. “Apart from this incident, she was never subject to any disciplinary measure for school violence,” wrote Choi.

@cloudchungxiao
@cloudchungxiao Год назад
I mean I wouldn't say she wouldn't lie and I'm not saying she's completely innocent but she hasn't been properly proven to be a bully with any valid evidence. Similar to how you're blinded into believing Soojin is a bully without proper evidence, we all have our opinion which doesn't mean either is right or wrong because we can't with the lack of evidence. As for the translations and timeline, it's in the description. My main takeaway from this video wasn't that Soojin was innocent. It's that everyone is quick to react despite the amount of fake victims that would arise from this case. Legally it would be innocent until proven guilty so people can claim that. But even if you don't vibe with that statement, you can't really find evidence properly proving she was a bully so it's all hearsay which neither should have greater weighting in their voice overpowering the other. Thus, neutrality is all you can do and I guess just avoid the topic if you feel like you don't know how to view this. The reason why I lean towards more Soojin's side is because of the amount of hate and negative impact that has happened in her life considering what has been used as evidence to prove anything.
@auramaris_
@auramaris_ Год назад
@@cloudchungxiao No, I agree with you on this, Soojin shouldn't have left the group and this shouldn't have costed her career. The amount of hate she's getting is not justified. I'm also not saying she's a bully, I'm saying I wouldn't know cause I dont know her personally. I've been through this with Jimin from AOA, she was my bias and most of us had no idea who she was when she wasn't on camera. Though there is clear evidence for that so it's not the same but that opened my eyes to seeing how many idols are probably just putting on a persona for their job cause kpop industry is so ruthless to anything but a cookie cutter perfect personality when it comes to idols. Now, I dont believe the "victims" are telling the whole truth, it does sound like a smear campaign but still there must be something that went down for them to come after Soojin like that. Was it worth the amount of media attention this got? Probably not, but I do think there's a good chance both sides were at fault when they were young and whether that should carry over to their adult lives is a whole another issue.
