Hi! I'm 17 and just found your blog, which led me to your channel. I first spent a week on sailing boat when I was 11 and immediately fell in love with the environment. My second time sailing was when I was 14, and since then, I've had the dream of living on a sailing boat some day. At 16 I got a job and started saving money for the future, and I'm currently working on that. I find it fascinating that some people like you have the courage to pursue this kind of adventure, and I hope some day I'll be able to do the same. Just found your channel watched this video going back to others now we are selling our house to go sailing next year. You didn't include insurance was wondering costs?

Hi, thanks for watching. Good point, I should have itemised this separately but it's bundled in with our maintenance costs as it's an ongoing yearly fee for the boat. We paid around £400 for the year but obviously each boat is very different, depending on how much it's worth, where and when you're sailing etc. Hope that helps!

Oh man, had no ideas that on average you can live on a boat in med for relatively that little money.

It's crazy how cheap this lifestyle can be! But sometimes it feels like everything breaks all at once, so you do need some savings to cover that. It all seems to spread out though over time, so it can be a really cheap way of living!!

@@TwoGetLost I'm really really surprised how little can be enough. I have a dream since my childhood to sail for a long time with my family (2children now 4 and 6years of age). I've been postponing this as always thought it's a lot of money, but this year started looking into this. And here we are. Thanks very much for sharing this. I'll have a look for more info on your website. I guess the biggest expense is still the purchase of the boat.

@@daddy-daycares it can be, but you can also find some really cheap sailboats out there. Like I said in the video though, I think it all comes out in the wash eventually. You either buy a cheap boat and spend lots of money and time on fixing it but over several years,so you spread the cost. Or you buy something more expensive and (hopefully) don't have as many expensive repairs. I guess you trade the things you used to spend money on (travel, drink, new electronics, days out) for free things like snorkelling or walking or just chilling out and watching the sunset!!
