Everything in the fitness world contradicts itself . If you go around trying to do research on supplements you’ll just end up in a damn loop. One year it’s good for you, next year it’s a waste of money. What I’ve learned is just try it out for yourself and experiment on your own if you have the funds.

Your body does 80% of muscle repair and growth while sleeping. Your body hates going to bed on an empty stomach for a reason. I gained all my muscle by eating the most protein before bed. Casein is awesome. These guys arent even that muscular, wtf do they know.

I’m new to the whole protein scene, what about some of us that just want to shed access fat and not build a lot of muscle. Would a casein be sufficient for breakfast instead of having a protein shake that adds mass?

@@jesusvargas841 Your not going to add muscle mass just by eating protein. You have to apply resistance thats not easy. You can eat 500 g of protein a day, but if your not lifting to failure or close to failure, the protein just increases thermogenesis and you will lose bf and piss a lot out. Carbs are what add mass to existing muscle. If your goal is leaning out and maintaining muscle just eat lots of protein. Thermogenesis is key

@@jesusvargas841 If you just want to shed weight, you can easily just do cardio and eat properly. You wouldn’t need casein for that. And there is no differentiation between casein and protein shakes. All protein does the same thing, they’re just digested at different rates. Whey is better than casein because it is more bioavailable and fast digesting. Protein does build muscle, but it can also maintain muscle, and also help you lose weight. What the protein does depends strictly on your workout regime and eating habits. If your diet is already full of protein, fats, and carbs and you take those shakes, it will cause weight gain (fat, not muscle) if you’re not burning those calories off. Supplements should never replace Whole Foods. Since you want to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit. You could do a high protein and low fat diet. Also protein shakes don’t really add mass unless you’re working out. And with mass you have muscle mass and also fat mass. If you’re taking protein and not working out (and also getting plenty protein from the diet), that’ll turn into fat. However, if you’re working out and taking protein, you can both lose weight and gain muscle. Rather you build muscle depends on the type of exercises you do, (cardio tones more than builds muscle). Diet helps you cut weight.,

I’m always trying to get bigger. I asked a guy at my gym that is like 6’ 6’ 280 super jacked how he gains and said to eat 2 pounds of pork a day and protein shake right before bed.

Digestion interrupts sleep??? WTF is this dude smoking? Digestion actually makes you drowsy, like after a heavy meal because your body allocates most of your energy to breaking down food.

I work 12 hour night shift. I use casein a during my break so I'm not hungry for most of the shift and i dont ruin my diet.

If you want to build muscles don't work at nights.Night shifts are killing you biological cycle and your body can't synthesise the protein efficiently.You can't even have deep sleep at days more than 2-3 hours.

@@beslemeto that's not entirely true. I have seen growth over the last few months, maybe not as fast but you do get progress. I cycle on and off of nights though, when i go back to days i see insane progress almost over night, so that could be why as well.

i sleep far better with a meal towards bedtime, ive seen plenty of studies about not eating before bed for health/weight loss, but i simply cant sleep/sleep properly if i go to bed feeling a bit hungry, so ive simply decided eating closer to bedtime to improve my sleep.

I lifted for 12 years before I started casein protein and it make such a difference. The science is there to support that. If youre not lifting enough or periodizing properly, and have no gains like these guys then you probably dont need it.

I can't sleep on an empty stomach. Being fed before bed allows me to not get up in the middle of the night hungry or fixating on hunger while trying to fall asleep. My last meal is 2-3hrs before bed and whey about an hour before bed. I eat as much unprocessed food as possible. The main severance is routine sweets and fast food, and I make an effort to not drink sugars.

I had a job to where I was only able to eat between 9:30p.m.to10p.m..Then I would go straight to bed. I was in the best shape of my life..But, I didn't get out of bed until 9a.m.I only had to work my job from 4p.m.to9p.m. every day.I worked out 2 to 3 hours every day..Love is the key...

No, food has a thermic effect and therefore raises our body temperature. In order to sleep, our body has to lower its core temperature. It's truly simple and there is undeniably a consensus about this in the scientific world. Your first point is irrelevant, the second one is false.

@@BigShippy0 The thing is, I'm not saying food does not get digested better when asleep. It's just not really relevant to what they are trying to say here. Also, yes people get sleepy after a big meal (varies per person) because their digestive system actually starts to go to work. But getting drowsy after dinner does not mean being able to go to sleep, and even if it does for some people, the point is still that eating before bed or during the night might skew your circadian rhythm, which is of far greater importance than getting another protein shake into your system. Also, you can do as much research as you like on the thermic effect of food.

For me: Casien = acne, and horrible shits, but with massive gains. Whey = I feel fine and my skin is good but I dont remember noticing the gains I noticed when I was having casien. (I generally avoid dairy for my skin and digestion) I mix my 100% grassfed whey with a fiber supplement (psyllium husk), mostly to save time but I think it may slow absorption and it definitely satiates me more than taking at separate times. It may slow the absorption giving a similar result to casien. I do this more to lose weight though than to get hulked. Recently I've been using collagen and hemp proteins with this fiber shake too. They all seem fine. I try mixing up my protien sources and I'll have a scoop of this and scoop of that. Different flavors and applications keep it interesting and more affordable.

I do the same thing with the fiber. I add inulin or fructo oligosaccharides. I also add a lot of chicory powder. Casein unflavored powder.Some Acacia fiber as well.Get some satiety. Feed my microbiome. Get some good quality amino acids for muscle building. All that good stuff.

I'm lactose intolerant but I tolerate whey fine. Casein gives me terrible acne and is harder for me to digest. BUT I recall the biggest strength gains in my gym rat career coming after i was given 5lbs of casien to try. I felt like I was on steroids or something between the gains and the acne lmao. I take a lot of collagen and hemp protien these days. They may be good alternatives. I get them both pretty cheap in the bulk bins of my health food store.

@@hahgotem9466 I do grass fed whey isolate (Levels brand) or grass fed or marine collagen mostly. Also lots of fat free no sugar added Greek yogurt. (Oikos Triple Zero or O% Fage are my go-tos) Occasionally grass fed butter (Kerrigold). For cheese I do 2% American since it's barely even cheese lol

For me, real food made the difference, I stopped the whey protein completely and increased meat, eggs, fish and cheese. As soon as I stopped the whey protein I started to notice faster muscle growth. Same workout, same calories, same everything. I just changed the whey protein for the sources mentioned above. I don't know why.

I disagree with casein not being good before bed. I noticed my best gains drinking some an 30 mins to an hr before bed. For a channel that likes to talk about studies, studies have shown a significant increase in gains for people taking casein than those without.

@@aaron4966 I've only been using casein recently for the last year. I haven't had any acne problems myself. I'm 35 now, so past my real prime, but I've put on a little over 2 inches to my arms a lot faster than I did in my late teens and early 20s when I only did creatine and whey.

You always digest. As a mammel you constantaly digest and burn calories that's what it means to be warm blooded, you digest food in your intestines as well so you can't really avoid digestion as it takes way more than just two hours.

I don't care about the recovery side, but I think casein is simply healthier for longevity. Whey protein is so bioavailable that it actually spikes insulin, which isn't a big deal on it's own but most people typically eat food with it as well and it's probably also going to spike insulin.

@@zeno4538 Because sharp insulin spikes over time will lead to insulin resistance, which leads to a whole bunch of health problems. Basically increases your chances of dying from just about everything health related. The performance increase and recovery is honestly negligible for anyone who isn't a professional athlete. A casual lifter gains nothing from it except an excuse to eat like shit "because insulin makes you recover faster."
