Thanks for sharing! I’m 36 and was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance at 14 which meant I could keep a lot of my symptoms in check through lifestyle, but I couldn’t lose weight. Metformin did nothing, but my diet sorted out my A1C. I’ve been on GLP-1s for a year (started on Saxenda and now on Wegovy) and my BMI is now 25.8, down from 30! It’s so nice to finally see all the strength training I’ve been doing for years actually make a difference to my body now. Wegovy has been a game changer.

I'm gonna be 33 in June. Was diagnosed at 13. Spent most of my life doing the wrong things trying to manage it because I had terrible doctors that didn't listen to me and people in my environment kept pushing keto and other fad extreme diets at me. I lost 30 pounds on my own with nutrition and exercise changes. That regulated my periods after I stopped taking birth control. Now I've moved across country and I'm finally getting the help I need at an actual PCOS clinic. Only had one appointment so far but they gave me bloodwork I've been trying to get for years. So next week I have a follow up to discuss my results and see what options I have. One of which may be ozempic. I'm really worried about taking ozempic if I don't need it. As it can wreak havoc on the body if you don't already have a good lifestyle going and if your dose is too high you can lose fat too quickly and get a saggy aging face

I have PCOS with cysts (determined during an IVF egg retrieval) and obesity. Despite decades doing my best at lifestyle management, I began zepbound as soon as it hit the market.I am now 10 lbs away from being "only" overweight! This medicine will extend my life and is already improving the quality. That egg retrieval resulted in 3 now-teenage daughters who most likely have PCOS, and I hope that future variations of these medicines will help my girls to have fewer health struggles than I did.

HI, I used ozempic for two months and I lost weight but then I started throwing up so much that I had to stop. I could not keep any of my food down, it did not matter how little I ate that day.

I was a midwife and birth worker for 32 years and have been on GLP-1s (1st Trulicity, now Mounjaro) for 2 years. I've been writing about GLP-1s and PCOS/Infertility/Pregnancy/Nursing with and on the GLP-1s for months now. Apparently, on TikTok, dozens of women are bragging about their Ozempic Babies... from infertility to pregnancy. What is challenging about going off a GLP-1 for 2 months before trying to conceive is that the hormones shift back to baseline and that can happen fast. We can see that in the weight gain of those who stop the medications. Hormones regroup quickly and the woman, hypothetically, could become infertile again in those 2 months. I am hoping the OBs/Infertility Docs are going to put the women on/back on Metformin in that short interim between GLP-1 and fertility and no GLP-1 and pregnancy. Thoughts?

I can certainly see that occurring! The women should also be provided proper support regarding stopping the medication, expectations etc. I would hope at the very least they would look at a medication like metformin. Out the gate I would personally look at an option like Saxenda instead as it clears the system much more quickly. Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience in this area specifically to say what is the best option but based on current animal models I ensure any patients I work with that are reproductive age they are on some form of birth control prior to starting a GLP-1 therapy.

Hi Dr. Dan! I recently found your videos after seeking information on Ozempic for those of us with PCOS + insulin resistance & type-2 Diabetes. One question I'd like to ask is if Ozempic negatively impacts mental health. Has this aspect been addressed in current research? I have come across quite a number of reviews from people taking Ozempic, who mentioned adverse effect on mental health, to the point of suicidal ideation. I am rather concerned about this as I have a history of having my mental health problems/concerns tossed aside by both medical professionals and family for the sake of weight loss. So, I would like some objective views on the matter. Thank you!

I’ve had a hysterectomy do I technically still have PCOS? I also have more inflammation now than I did when I was heavier. So if I still have PCOS, could that be from that or just being very old. I’ve always had sore achy joints, even when I was younger.

I am on Metformin for my pcos and that already takes away my hunger and gives me nausea..been on it for a year and a half but NO WEIGHT LOSS..worked with a nutritionist but nothing..how would ozempic help me with pcos weight loss if metformin has not since it has supressed by Hunger.

I deal with ovarian cyst, however keep in mind, I might not be the best help since I’m the “super asymptomatic type” who never struggled with weight/naturally very skinny even without meds, no insulin resistance, no androgenic issues, ect… + this is my own personal anecdote that may or may not work for you but… when I started birth control called Nikki (the generic for Yaz) for both my plum sized ovarian cyst and severe PMDD, I kid you not dropped 7lbs in the first week due to my water retention issue from the PMDD being resolved, minor appetite loss, and nausea (the appetite loss and nausea lasted about 2 weeks) Once my appetite and nausea resolved, my weight still sits somewhat lower than my pre-birth control weight (because I’m not retaining so much water anymore), so if you’re not at a blood clot risk, it might not hurt to try? Talk to your doctor first because I’m NO professional, and I wish you the best of luck though, much love sent 💜💜💜

@@snowylove2002 I have PCOS, PMDD, Ovariab Cysts that I have operations for and insulin resistance PCOS. Birth control was ruled out right away for me the combo of IR and PMDD with PCOS means even if you have okay appetite suppressant naturally it’s still likely the weight will creep in as you’ll go over maintenance calories sometimes over the 2 PMDD weeks. Even if it’s a little the weight gain is sneaky and gradual (some months you mainten, some months you’ll lose if PMDD + IR symptoms are in control with good nutrition and exercise then others you’ll gain hence never really losing weight esp if you are already overweight) hence why there are only a few things that work for overlapping the 7 PCOS types (IR PCOS, Androgen PCOS, Adrenal PCOS, Lean PCOS, Inflammatory PCOS, Post pregnancy PCOS, no cause PCOS and The Pill induced PCOS) I’d like to highlight the Pill induced PCOS which some pills make PCOS worse OR even INDUCE PCOS so I’d never suggest to suggest to anyone the pill unless it’s a medical professional and they know the history and if it does go south they can monitor and fix. Especially with insulin resistance PCOS your PCOS treatment is so different, we’ll call PCOS types have different main treatments. I hope your PCOS journey is going well and your cysts go well as well. I know that can be awful. Good day

Ozempic has several mechanisms of action not just caloric reduction. It will improve IR more powerfully than metformin. Hence the weight loss

Is this still relevant for PCOS + Mounjaro? Since Mounjaro is a GP-1 and GIP?

But it means if we want pregnancy, we need to stop ozempic and then all the weight and symptoms come again?

Your team should be discussing with you the strategy and plan before you even start to maintain the best way possible. But yes, you need to come off for pregnancy.
