I love learning from Dr. Gundry because he actually explains everything in detail to back up what he is saying! We live in is a land of lies and having discernment to see the truth is key regardless what the category may be!
Dr. Gundry, you are accountable for your advice - you are refuting all other researchers advice on this subject. You have to do a follow-up podcast to bridge/explain the difference.
I'm glad that you mentioned mixing protein powders with other items. Most nutritionists ignore the obvious solution to some of these problems. I have no trouble digesting soy milk, whey protein isolate, creatine added to my steel cut oats cooked with hemp seeds and chia seeds, and a little maple syrup for breakfast. There is plenty of protein, which digests quite slowly, and I feel full for four to six hours. Then I eat a second meal from vegetable sources since i'm a vegetarian if I'm hungry. 😊
I have tested repeatedly your ultra-low protein diet, and I become weak and sick on it. I will believe you if you can debate Dr. Gabrielle Lyon in studio on your points today in this video, or if you can walk on a beach in South Florida in your Speedo with Dr. Mercola in a walk and talk session... or if you can do a talk session in the gym with Dave Asprey, and convince us why you are right and they are wrong. Hundreds of studies debunk what you say in these ultra-low protein diet sermons, to the detriment of my health and many others...
Didn't they just release a big study that traced the protein after consumption, in humans, and found that protein synthesis comitnues for HOURS (at least 12 if I recall) basically regardless of the quantity of protein eaten 🤨
The truth is in the middle. I know people who are trying to lose weight and they can't do it as they are misled by athletes to exercise more and consume a lot of protein. I don't think lack of muscle is the problem of today's world, it's obesity. So ditch the touted daily protein requirements as they are nonsense - you can't even meet them even if you do time-restricted feeding as skipping one meal would mean you'll only need to consume chicken steaks after that... Do consume protein though, just don't overthink it - an ultra-low protein diet also doesn't sound right... And the doctor is forgetting that it takes more energy to turn protein to fat, compared to carbs.
upping my protine has really helped me. I was losing muscle mass. more regular execercise protine powders fasting and reducing meals to 3 times a day and improving diet no sugar no snacking has really helped me. 210 to a lean 170-175 lean and strong.
Actually those people have changes in their tune like my Ex's period lol. One time Thomas loved protein shakes and other times new research suggests we don't need them. These people aren't experts only researchers, at least Dr Gundry is a retired heart surgeon. He has real doctor, academic credentials.
Just because you have academic credentials, speak articulately with absolute confidence doesn’t mean you should be believed. In this case citing one expert when there are scores of others who cite the science supporting a higher protein intake. I agree with Dr Gundry on many things but can’t help thinking that he’s a showman ultimately out for monetary gain bending the facts to match his own narrative.
Viewers would really benefit from having Dr. Gundry on a podcast with Dr. K. Berry (Mr. Carnivore) they have opposite views of the amount of protein and EV olive oil etc...
I have watched content from both of them, but I think Gundry is more nuanced. Ken Berry creates a lot of stipulations for a proper carnivore diet that most do not follow, while Gundry says carnivore is only a good option short term.
Yeah but point me one single non-active person who is overweight because he/she is eating a lot of LEAN sources of protein that was then stored as fat!!!! Point me one
Maybe it’s as simple of mixing your preferred protein powder and adding chia seeds or psyllium husk for the fiber content to slow digestion lowering the glucose and insulin spike????
This is confusing given everything that other leading experts opinion based on real research conducted by many experts vs the one you mention at Stanford.
Did you say leading expert? Lol who? Dr mike? He's a medical guideline dog that can't see with the hidden minds eye. Real research the one that keeps changing based on circumstances?
My son, 35, has been diagnosed with renal failure due to protein buildup on the filters of his kidneys. I have always wondered if it was because he was drinking those protein shakes early on in his military career.
@@ethimself5064 I wonder if he drank them in excess because he was underweight according to military standards so he was drinking these constantly it seemed as well as rigorous workout sessions
Just feedback. I have had uterine fibroids for a while they were in smaller version than I start eating meat, protein shake to get my 30g of protein per meal basically just follow carnivore diet than my fibroids were exponentially increased in size within 1.0 year. Now I stop listening to all those food gurus about meat consumption. I start eating the normal way with some small portion of protein as I used to eat. Also, I would question spermidine because at the time when I changed my diet to carnivore diet I started spermidine as well. Could it be meat or spermidine? I stopped both.
Obviously, if you consume more of something than you actually need that can cause inefficiencies in your body systems because the body still has to process the excess.
Hello I have been from Poland, for a long time and I have been impressed by your lectures. Our stores offer coconut yogurts with broad bean protein, is this a good option ?
Protein powders really arent bad just keep the dose to around 20 to 25g if your trying for maintenance. I personally do around 25g protein in the morning and 25g in the afternoon. Also as dr gundry said use it mixed with or after ither foods like fats/fiber to slow digestion.
I've been wondering about this for a while. A nutritionalist told me a while back that there is limit to how much protein a body can digest in one sitting. I'm going to cut back on the protein shakes and go for whole foods. It seems like the extra shakes aren't helping me loose weight anyway.
I mix my protein powder with whole foods in banking, Greek yogurt, oats etc. problem solved. Also, sometimes you want the immediate benefit of absorption like after a hard workout or training session.
I strongly disagree with this. 40-60 grams is the minimum to keep you alive just sitting there.... I move my body, I work out, and I like 120 grams a day
I wandered! I was a strict follower of Plant Paradox Principled WOE. Then I got intrigued with the higher protein messaging. I've gained 10 pounds. I am BACK. Thank you!
So useful for me this channel, thank you Dr Guntry! I am too thin, 175cm with 54kg, appreciate if have some suggestions for gaining weight if possible. I don't have any chronic disease and vegetarian.
Eat more food maybe halloumi it's saturated fat can slow down digestion a little allowing you to gain weight. Lower cardio a bit and eat more calories in your meals. Too much cardio you lose weight, but you need some cardio for heart health.
@@WoodyRe bottom line eventually we all slow down as we get older and gaining weight will become so easy, don't be in a rush to get fat lol. Oh boi I never thought I'd need to say those words to anyone lol. Lots of people would kill to be slim
@@Alucard_FahrenheitTepes For me gain weight is so difficult. I've been tried many ways over decades, still look like skeleton. I would try any possible, but need to be healthy methods.
@@WoodyRe how old are you? Don't worry closer you get to 40 you'll probably lose those gut microbiome that speed digest your food like the rest of us and then your tissue mass will increase. If your lifting weights that might be keeping you from gaining weight too, it's a complicated subject because everyone has a different gut bacteria and metabolic rate and life style not to mention genes playing a role too.
@@SF-ow5ru Most protein powder is artificial ingredients, no matter what the label says, and is another example %1000 more of your daily recommended dose of something the health industry says makes you an uberman, more of too much in today's living.
Dr Gundry you mention leaky gut as a potential outcome of using protein powders, but do not mention collagen protein powder as a benefit to stop leaky gut in this video: but have mentioned the use of collagen in other videos. Was this an over sight or have you changed your mind about collagen protein powders (which are definitely processed!)?
Not hard to believe, i think. Kids "double" their weight, height and muscle mass in only a few years, not thinking about anything and eating only moms food🤔 Even if mom serves mostly crap, kids grow up... that was always a mystery for me.?? And if you think of the ancient vikings... they are really strong and eated what nature had to offer.
6:10 -- Lots of scientists and nutritionists all say you need more AA to build muscles IF you are working out. Yes if U are a couch potato, whatever you eat s probably ok but not if you are actively trying to get stronger.
If I pay an exorbitant price for Polyphenol-Rich Olive Oil or Lectin Shield or Urolithin A, will that make the ultra-low protein diet healthful for me?!
If you eat 8/16 and use up your glucose and glycogen stores by morning, your liver will make glucose from protein...... It is a good idea to keep your protein stores (and yes your cells store protein) so that you are not breaking down muscle tissue to get that protein. I don't know how much protein intake that takes, because I don't know exactly when a fasting person runs out of glycogen. But, I would rather to have excess protein than catabolizing my muscles.
From an evolution standpoint why would the body catabolize muscles and not stored fat? It's like throwing your chair in the stove instead of the wood you've prepared for that.
Without the knowledge in diet and nutrition as you doc but only with my curiosity and my tiny bit of knowledge of Nature, which is, again, also very little 😊(Im SORRY for those you get triggered by that) I couldnt moderate the excitement your video gave me and my pairs. Therefore, I appreciate it very very much! Also, if theres a chance of you reading these comment, that would be enough for me to try and ask you something. Feel free to ignore it. The topic of reflection was about biology, human relationship and also anthropology in a way but mostly and specially about Mother Nature or planet Earth and our rather particular relationship with her. Im sorry again for those who get triggered. Anyways, IF we, for a momment, consider her and percieve her as a highly inteligent living thing, with high intuition, perception, adaptability, and all of the qualities human beigns have, even humour (not worthy of the trash at all like some of the newer ingentions in regards of proteín) Why would you thing she didnt made us capable of storaging proteín if there was proteín already on her "belly", in form of greens, seeds and more so, by the time we happen to develop as humans? In addition, if we consider diet as a cultural and social behaviour with a HUGE correlation to both the environment we are part of, that, including the polítical and económical influences it has on, and how diversity it can be, why in your opinion is it that we lost it meaning? Lastly, what do I eat now?! Please Answer with humour if u want. Saludos doctor!
I use Whey Gourmet made with Stevia and very good ingredients ... but will just use it now after lifting weights... thought it was a good satiating snack or lunch....
Sorry about this but every organ in your body needs AA, not just your muscles. His words here are very misleading and can be taken out of context easily ...
There seems to be a problem here. Presuming you have a 2000 calorie diet, and you consume say 30 grams of protein a day, that is only 120 calories from protein. We already know Dr. Gundry is not a fan of high carb. Say you eat 100 grams of carbs a day. That is another 400 calories. So 2000 - 520 = 1480. Which could then only come from fat. Am I missing something here?
dont believe chat GPT ROFLMFAO that stupid programmed robot was giving me ALL wrong answers when i was asking about hair color too bahahhaha chat is NOT A DR. and just gets its info from a massive pool of internet text, including books and websites
I like this dude but I can't stop taking protein. I believe if you train hard you need the extra protein. Seems like his message is more for the normies or people who workout wothout a purpose
I still don't understand what is the ideal food pyramid. Too much proteins is not needed, ok. Too much polysacharides = converts to fat, also bad. Fat = fat, bad. What to eat? What's the logic behind Gundry's diet, where a lot of fats is the base of the pyramid?
Hi Dr. Gundry. I’ve been settling into your program for about 2 months and I feel better and better. Just read Gut Check as well. I have a question. I started going to the gym around 6am and break my fast at noon. I’ve tried BCAA and protein powder but both seem to interfere with the level of wellbeing. What would you suggest as a fuel source?
First of all your BCAA breaks a fast lol train without food only electrolytes eventually you get into ketosis what I used to do was take supplements and caffeine and creatine powder b4 workout to train then 10 hours later is eat large healthy meal. We call training with BCAA calorie deficit fasting.
Can I tell you more the gut can regulate protein absorb for m 9:31 any hours I suppose you know this a mechanism too it means when you eat a lot of meat you won't absorb all meat immediately you'll need many hours to absorb it slowly because it's essential for body and your body don't want to lose it in boobs
So Someone who is working out 3 times a week how Much protein does he need? Only 60 grams of protein????.. I guess it depends from the kilos and how much musles Someone has....You mean a person who is not working out...13% present of peotein goes to the muscles So 60 grams is too low then
OK, so did I understand that right... there's not benefit to using protein powder because it gets absorbed too fast and will turn into sugar or fat?! So, I shouldn't add it to my healthy smoothies?! I was just about to look into buying a collagen protein powder, 🤔 And if I'm not getting much protein it's ok? I usually have eggs for breakfast, lean meat/chicken for lunch and dinner surrounded by veggies or if I'm not too hungry I make a smoothie as a meal replacement/snack. Yes I'm trying to lose weight and be healthier, as so many of us are.
Amazing misinformation!Obviously Dr.Guntry ignores basic physiology.Proteins are not absorbed as such, but as the constituents aminoacids, which in the tissues (mainly the liver) recombine to form theproteins of the organism. The amounts he refers to,are the minimum amount to avoid severe starvation.Dr.Nikolas Papadakis, professor of neurosurgery.
☝️We have also to consider that all the the fruits and vegetables 🥦 all greens and grains have amino acids !!!! May we don’t need extra source out of the regular … if we follow the marketing pro protein we will end up w kidney issues
Your voice has changed, and your skin is turning yellow. I like the Doc, but I'm interested in what he thinks about this. I'm not the only one seeing this!
I am an amatuer bodybuilder, and the protein propaganda is insane in fitness culture. In my experience, I've been able to build muscle on 60-70 grams of protein a day. Seriously. If I were doing 1g per pound of bodyweight, I would be FAT!
