I’m a video editor and film composer, and a student. I absolutely love the 14” and wouldn’t change my mind now a year later

Having bought the 16 inch, the idea that its too heavy or big is simply a complete myth. Its just a nice sized laptop.

To double, triple, and quadruple down on what you’re saying, I can count the number of times my 16” MBP’s fans have turned on with ONE hand. Three times in one year, three! And all three times took place while doing 3D renders, and surprise, I do a lot of 3D renders and the fans do not need to turn on. I can even render multiple scenes without needing to charge. The battery lasts for days if I’m just doing light work and web browsing. Whatever they did with this hardware and MacOS integration is actually magic. Not saying it will be perfect for everyone but it has far exceeded all of my expectations for laptop performance.

I concur with your conclusion, I have a 16" M1 Pro MBP and I love it. My company did me one better and replaced an OLD Intel MBP with a 16" M1 Max MBP. Still getting to know it, but I'm sure I will be impressed++

Had the base M1 Pro 16" for a year, loving it tho!

Purchased the 14" & decided to try out the 16" while I could still return it... As soon as I sat them side-by-side I started packing up the 14". Minimal size difference, yet SO much more useful screen. It's not even close IMO. Current 16" is smaller than my old 15" MBP at this point.

100% Best Apple product I've ever owned and I've owned a lot. Switched to PC and Android about three years ago and now I'm back to Apple. This MacBook is so good that I just picked up the iPhone 14 PM because of it; I owned a Note20 Ultra previously.

I just got the m1 pro version and the thing is super nice. I use a 14 at work and it’s just too small for serious work by itself.

I upgraded from a 2015 macbook, to this one on a open box, Black Friday deal. The computer is impressive, If I was going to critique a minor detail, I wish the keyboard had a little more feel, the keys kind of lack some of that punch, but after a while you get used to it, but I did like my previous keyboard a little bit more. But overall, the computer has lived up to the hype. Everything is quick, have many apps open, and still working perfectly.

Great video! I'm coming from a 2013 MBP, so I'm thinking I'm gonna like this bad boy. Gonna wait until Xmas morning to open it. Need to stop watching these videos on how awesome this machine is, or I'm not gonna make it until Xmas!

Bro, what is your battery capability left after 1 year or use? I got my brand new MBP 16 M1 Pro since august 2022 (4.5 months of using), my battery is on 98% right now. 37 cycles made by 4.5 months of use. I generally use in at home, 90% of time plugged in charger.

May I ask, how is your workflow with both the MacBook Pro 16 and the Mac Studio? You use the MBP also in a desktop workflow as you show in the video. Where does the Mac Studio come in or is it the high end one with the Ultra chip? I am asking because I have a Mac Studio base model and will receive a MBP 16 (32/32) tomorrow and I am wondering if the Mac Studio is superfluous now. Thank you!

I've bought computers since the early 90's. My 16" M1 MBP Pro-Max is by far the best machine I've ever owned. I'll ride this horse till it dies.

For a standard design laptop, there's very little more I could have asked for; it was as though the design team read my mind, as someone who's been using 15" format Mac laptops since the TiBook. Or more likely, they just made what boatloads of MBP users were asking for.

The touchpad seems obtrusively big, the 14" version looks a much more sensible size. Do you find you have to type at a weird angle to keep your hands off it?

i bought one a few days ago... and i haven't plugged it to charge yet! wtf the battery runs forever! the way opens logic pro x ... is in seconds ! so happy sooo sooo happy !

I love my 14" M1 Pro.... except for the wifi with this generation. My iPhone 14 Pro, iPad Pro M1, my wife's same devices, and my wife's 2019 16" MacBook Pro i9 all get more than 2x the wifi speeds in my apartment. They all get around 180mbps, where my MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro gets about 80mbps. I've toggled and rebooted, and updated and checked everything. I can sit the devices next to one another, and it's just my MacBook Pro 14" that has the issue. Not only the slower speeds, but and web pages and wifi usage needs (wifi calling, zoom, etc) all time out and drop. Looking through threads for troubleshooting, seems like it could be this generation. It's been like that with both Spectrum, and Starry internet options in my apartment. I also use the Orbi 963 mesh router system for my wifi.

I liked the touch bar because you could scrub through RU-vid ads to skip them. Underrated lol. I have Premium now tho so 🤷🏼‍♂️

I still think the touch bar deserves more love than it gets. Having an area which changes to what program you use, that can still display Function keys if you just hold the Fn key, that you can even get the dock to display within if you use an additional program like Pock, far out ways some static keys. I just wish that Apple had included it with the MacBook Pro in addition to the function keys (for those that can only use physical keys) to appease both - there is more than enough space at the top of the machine to do so.

I am a System Admin and love the 16" display. My use case doesn't require me to be mobile so I can see why the 14" is so popular. Great video Sam.

Is it just me or RU-vid is crashing every 30 seconds on the iPhone app?

In MacBook and Mac you Could Look on App in Main Screen long with Mouse from left to Right and Down and Look on Files like in Number and Garage Band And Xcode even Adobi and Pixelmetor and RU-vid for Biz. Even in iPad.

Did you get the pro or max?

I know that people mention the weight of these MacBook Pros, especially the 16 inch, but I personally have no problem with its weight. I am simply used to larger screens and I carry it around with me.

What monitors were u using with the Anker hub?

I never get why people don't use TopNotch to have a black display bar. It just looks so much better, and even does so on external, non-oled/mini-led displays.

You need to fix your audio leveling my guy it’s so low I basically had to turn my AirPods up to max to be able to hear you 😂

I went from a 2019 MacBook Pro to the early 2020 intel MacBook Pro because in a short amount of time the 2019 one got so bad with battery and lag so quickly I was desperate to upgrade. The 2020 one equally disappointed me. Once I saw the reviews for these 2021 MacBook Pros I had to buy one and I've never loved a Mac so much before.

Just got it, love it... Happy to be back in macos after using Linux on a noisy burning hot thinkpad for some years.... Everything is fast and just works ...

because I don't need the compute power in the MacBook Pro - my dream machine would be the current MacBook Air M2 with the XDR display the Pro has.

You are absolutely right. But people, beware of one serious thing! I bought this laptop, all reviewers are totally satisfied. But there is one problem with new HDR displays. Flickering (PWM). It cause very serious eye-strain to a few percent of population (really? actually I think it's much more - reason at the end of my text). I am developer - I bought this 16 inch version as my main work station. I am many days 8+ hours looking into the screen. And this laptop's screen hurts my eyes a lot, after first day, after 6 hours, there was something bad with my eyes. I googled - and you can do the same, put "macbook pro eye strain" into the google - and you will find hundreds of people, of topics discussing that. Many people had to return this fabulous laptop. The PWM/flickering is undisputably there, it's hurting the eyes in general. It has more impact on this 16 inch laptop than smaller friends (because of the bigger screen impact on the eyes). So people using this 16 inch has more issues. I have theory, that this screen is dangerous for all people in general - but many people will not realise it. Not because their eyes wouldn't be strained - they would - but they are not spending so many hours (like 6 hours a day) looking into the laptop screen to realise that. They have external monitor for example. Or spend like less than 6 hours here and there on the laptop. They just don't realise their strained eyes could be caused by this laptop.

I have the seem feeling as sam and I confirm that this is the best laptop I have ever owned in my entire lifetime. No heat issues, no battery issues, no processor issues, no throttling just a perfect laptop. Only negative in my opinion is the 16 inch is heavier than 2019 version but I don’t mind.

I have the 16 model (plus the Mac mini M1) and while I am very happy with both, implying apps launch instantly is quite far from the truth. Sure, some (Apple's mostly) do but Microsoft Teams, Office apps, Adobe apps, they do take a while to start.

16” MBP with M1 Pro just goes forever on battery. Low power mode feels like a cheat code (60hz but no noticeable perf hit).

anker need a dock with more usbc and less usba. i only use usba for ports on planes and rental cars these days

If I still worked in the professional production world, and had a need for a laptop the M1 Max chip Apple 16 inch MacBook Pro either at 10 core, 32Gb memory, and 2TB SSD that I only used remotely. Then if I was going to use it as both a remote laptop, and when at my desk my production workstation is would be maxed out at $6,099.00. Go big or stay home.

I WANT one so bad but I know I don’t NEED one even when they go on sale for hundreds of dollars off. I’m just so used to iPadOS and never used macOS. I like having individual apps for everything (RU-vid, Twitch, Crunchyroll, Netflix, HBO Max, etc) rather than just extra tabs in safari. I know the 16” MacBook Pro is an all around better device than my M1 iPad Pro 12.9 but the iPad is what I’m used to and comfortable with so spending that much money on a new device and brand new user experience to learn is somewhat intimidating.

The only thing keeping me from upgrading my MacBook from the 16 inch, 2019 is the fact that I would lose the Touch Bar i use the Touch Bar so I can skip all of the ads on RU-vid for free🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've had the 16" M1 Pro Max since day one and it quickly became my favorite Apple device of all time. Nothing has ever lagged for me, and most importantly (for me), battery life is amazing. For years, I've gone to coffee shops to work and it was always a struggle either finding an outlet to plug into, or to have an external battery big enough to let me work an entire day. With the M1 Pro Max, I literally don't even have to think about it. I can work from morning until night and still have anywhere from 20% to 50% left... and that's after editing video 🤯 Best. Purchase. Ever. Next time, though, I'm making it a point to upgrade the SSD to at least 2TB instead of 1TB. Anyway... dork ramble over 😜

I just bought a refurbished m1 max and no I couldn't get that super cheap cyber monday price because I need 64GB ram and 2TB and 32 GPU. So coming from an insanely upgraded imac pro 2017 (maxed out) and the only loss was the awesome 5K screen. That's nuts how a laptop can beat out a beast of a desktop! I sold my imac pro for 1.7k$ which is sad considering how much I bought it for back in 2017 but hey Ill take what I can get from a discontinued product. the m1 max is so much snappier/faster already can tell with huge adobe work photoshop files hundreds of layers and graphic design stuff/video. I had major regret though now that I hear m2 Max was coming soon (now March) but we all know that will cost like 5,000$ + with inflation and chips going to 3nm and made in America maybe. And if you get 64GB RAM or more than 2TB HD....thats the thing us designers need high levels of RAM and the base model (as "cheaper" as it might seem) never is quite enough to buy for us PRO users. Especially if you have a base price at over 4K and you want the machine to last it's a no brainer to max out the ram and at least get more than 1TB. Apple screws you with the SSD prices I use an external build its a few hundred cheaper for an extra 2TB.

So sad to see the touch bar go! I know it was not that good on its own, but paired with BetterTouchTool it has been a crazy good experience for me! You can create custom touch bars and control strips for either individual apps or universal, with custom-style buttons that you can configure yourself from scratch! It has taken my Xcode dev experience to the next level! I hope it comes back in the future so that I can replace my M1 MBP at some point. :/
