Its hit or miss with oil restrictor. Don't use them. They are not precise and always load your turbo up with poorly regulated oil causing that unwanted blue smoke and shortening expensive turbo bearing life. I use the TurboSmart OPR. Its a turbo oil feed regulator that feeds your turbo a steady regulated 40psi of oil to your turbo at all times. It has a oil drain back return as well so there is never any turbo oil loading that is a very unwanted condition. Also install the TurboSmart in line oil filter as well. Its vital that oil being delivered to your turbo is filtered. You are now up to date on proper turbo oiling the right way.......your welcome👍

+TheCarPassionChannel Haha it really is so ugly. Ill defintely be going MS soon then. How does the MS measure airflow then?
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel 8 лет назад
Gingium Instead of the horrible AFM with a spring loaded door, it measures airflow based on intake temperature and manifold pressure. It gives you a lot of freedom to do whatever you want to the intake system like running a filter right on the front of the turbo and using a BOV without any drawbacks. (If you use a BOV on a turbo car with an AFM or a MAF you run rich between shifts).

Would the applications you use on your NA, also be practical on the NB2 (2004)? I have been following your build, and I want to do something very similar. Ive started to gather parts- but I dont know what the ECU will do under boost on an NB- if it will react the same as an NA. For reference, I want to run a comfortable 8lbs with no ECU or tuning card. Eventually I would like to get a MS and go up to 12lbs and aim for 200hp. Also, do you know if having a turbo will have any adverse effects since it is a VVT engine? Thanks for the great videos!

so I'm trying to pick a restrictor and there seems to be no information on what thread pitch the t25 is. I'm finding plenty of 1mm restrictors but they all have different pitches. I'm sure I'm overthinking this and one size does not fit all.

+Lennart Gutruf Haha I've never been into naming my cars. I do have it running on sequential injection. I get about 18-19mpg because I run E85, when I run 91 octane it gets around 26mpg, 30mpg+ highway.

hey Greg! love watching your videos! super helpful. this might be something obvious I completely missed but just wondering what you do with the o2 sensor where it's in the manifold do you drill it into your exhaust? and as well my 95 has a maf would I just leave that on the intake before the manifold?
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel 7 лет назад
Sorry I kind of skipped over that information. I actually had the exhaust guy use the last 6" of the stock manifold to use at the bottom of the downpipe. It served two purposes: The flange mated up perfectly to the stock exhaust and it retained the stock o2 sensor bung. But, even if you don't go that route, it's really easy for any exhaust shop to add an o2 sensor bung to your exhaust.
@jtpark4159

@jasonramblas336 8 лет назад

Simple but awesome. Genius water routing bruh! Most efficient. Will copy liberally and credit appropriately when I can bring spidey from the stone age to the golden turbo age. Been eying the cast 1.8 manifold as a possible candidate for a mirror of this build to give 1.8 kiddies an option. I know egr would be an issue, and I would have to have a shop fab the down pipe. Any thoughts based on your experience with this build so far?
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel 8 лет назад
+NickelNDiminIt Yeah, even though it's the second turbo Miata I've pieced together, I've still had to buy things 2-3 times and not everything fits as expected. The real learning experience will be once it's on the road and I get to start working out the kinks.
@nickelndiminit5136
@nickelndiminit5136 8 лет назад
+TheCarPassionChannel So after considering the options and details, I think someone needs to do a companion 1.8 build. You have the 1.6 really well covered, so I am thinking I could probably document the process for the 1.8 using your same formula for the B&B series. I think with a 5 psi wastegate, an FMU, etc. could work well on a 1.8. The key is whether that cast manifold sucks or not. So I think you pushed me over the edge.
@masonmcconnell676

So I am planning on putting a turbo on my stock 93 Miata. The pnp version of megasquirt is a bit expensive for me atm, but would the non pnp model such as the pre assembled megasquirt 2 still work just as well besides the whole pnp part? I'm constantly researching the whole Miata turbo idea so any words of advice would be appreciated. Anyway keep making the great content!
@TheCarPassionChannel
@TheCarPassionChannel 8 лет назад
+Mason McConnell Yep, it works just the same, you just have to build the adapter harness. You can even do a DIYPnP where you build the unit yourself and it's quite a bit cheaper.

I think I already know your answer, but, gt2554r vs gt2560r? I currently have the 2554 journal bearing on the Miata. the 2560 looks mighty nice, but I figure i can get a 2554r CHRA and use my existing housings. The compressor wheel and turbine are the same, right?

+Opt Good question. I'm not sure if the housings are identical, you might want to contact Garrett. As far as 2554 vs 2560, I have no experience with the 2560R, but I would have a hard time recommending against the 2554R for any reason if you have a 1.6 or early 1.8. If you have a 99+ 1.8 the 60R will probably be better suited.

+TheCarPassionChannel Thanks, it's a 94 1.8. Feels good with the 2554. I'll check with Garrett.

I keep missing out on what you said I know that you have one of the water hoses attached to the thermostat housing, where is the other one located?

It goes into the fitting on the block. Stock, the line goes from the thermostat housing into the block fitting. Now, the turbo intercepts that line.

+mikey Drilled a new hole in it to change the angle. Was gonna put that in but it just seemed like too small of a detail to take up time in the video.

Ty for the vid. In the process of getting this done on my na6. Any problems with running with AC and PS? Is the Garret worth the extra cash VS China turbo?

Just go 2" piping on the hot side of the IC to make your like easier. GT2554R destroys the churbo in spool, when I upgraded my other car, it was life changing. I have a video or 2 about the step up from the churbo to the 2554R. Thumbnail says "more power??" I think?

TheCarPassionChannel Very cool. Thx again. Is it foolish to go with the FM kit? Never boosted a car B4. My plan was to go with there kit...in future go with MS and larger injectors to achieve my target of 200whp

@@SWFlowseeker The FM kit is one of the best complete kits on the market, and FM has excellent customer service as well.
