I love playdough for checking clearances like the hood to intake. It works great for when you can't get in there to see what is going on. Cheap and easy to clean up.

When you go to cut, be sure to start your cut in the drop portion of your steel. It'll fix those piercing cuts on the finished product and make a cleaner part. Not a big deal but a next step to up the quality of the parts.

I would better describe it to start inside the shape, which is going to be cut. So the first point with the stylus should be inside the part and similarly with the outer shape, you want to start outside that shape.
@user-os6ch5pt7w
@user-os6ch5pt7w Год назад
@@TrinomCZ This. Also, be sure to start your pierce cut no more than 1/8 of an inch away from your cut line on the outside cuts to minimize waste. Once you find what the pierce points OD will be on average, you can fine-tune your start location. Would be nice to know if it would allow for a 1/16" tab to be left on the cut parts to insure smaller pieces don't jump out on you, or fall into the grates. It seems you don't even need a templet to trace. You can draw directly onto your sheet and trace from there. Would be nice if they could add a feature to where you hold the button down on the stylus for a half second to indicate the starting point, then be able to hold the button down and continuously trace. Once at the end of the cut, double-click to set the end point. Would be much easier than having to click a hundred times to get your shape. They may already have this feature as a more advanced feature in the settings, who knows. Pretty neat little set-up for smaller jobs and custom pieces, while not taking up much room while in use, and can be put away when not needed.

The CNC stylus reminds me of when I first graduated high school and was working for a company doing CAD work. The first year I was there we had a digitizing table, it was a mouse with crosshairs on the end but was the same click click click method to trace drawings into AutoCAD. I can't tell you how excited I was my second year with the company when the new version of AutoCAD came out where you could insert a pdf file of a scanned image of blueprints directly into the AutoCAD program and trace over without needing that damn digitizer lol.

Putting some shims under the body mounts will get you some extra hood clearance. With these mounts being so long I would bolt them to the frame instead of welding them. Being able to get them out of the way will be a bonus when fitting headers etc.

The CNC is a great addition to the shop, be careful with the holes in the motor mounts, the sharp corners will make stress risers that can lead to cracking. Big power, vibration, and sharp corners might be a problem down the road.

That intake looks pretty similar to the one on Mullet (Cleetus' El Camino). If that is the case, Steve Morris made him a modification to the inner injector rails to make them easier to remove/install without having to take apart the entire assembly. Might be worth talking to Cleet and/or Steve for some details there, could save some headache down the road on an event.

Tip for using bolts/threads to space your brackets: Give it a little more space (for expansion and warpage from welding) than it otherwise needs (1/16" or less) so you can easily jossle the thing and line up the bolt holes and remove them if necessary. The worst thing in the world is having to use a hammer to beat and mar the beautiful parts you just made because they don't install easily. Ask me how I know :D

When I put a 12A rotary in an S13, I sacrificed a 19mm ½ inch drive socket to keep the front of the motor at the right height and angle while making mounts. I used 2×1×⅛ box section across the front chassis rails and welded an upright in the center, kept the motor in the right place and kept the engine mount holes free

Mike, a still shot at 32:14 shows the little 'hiccups' in the small end of your engine mount. As it is 'already made' would it be a good idea to weld up those little 'hiccups' as to avoid a possible a stress failure of the engine mount under the stress of a turbocharged BB engine? I wondered about that immediately...

Pretty cool to see my idea executed. Way better than I would have ever done it. Could run one of these in a job connex or set it up on the back of a service truck. A bit of advice for the ArcDroid, try not to have the plasma arc start on the edge you want cut. This will avoid the small blowout notches at 28:44. When cutting the lightening holes or bolt holes have the plasma start the arc in the center cutout, then travel to the edge. But the caddy looks bad ass!

Hi Mike, Just a thought , Ive been doing engine mounts this way for decades . I found the best way to terminate the mount @ the chassis rail , especially if is is an unibody car with thin rails, is to make two end plates , A & B ,one at the rail side , cut square or rectangle with a coresponding bolt pattern , weld nuts ( become internal ) onto plate , bore holes into chassis so the nuts recess into rail , Bolt plates A&B together weld the plate A to the rail , weld the plate B to the ends of the mount side gussetts . There you have a mount which is removable from the chassis rail , making engine removable a lot easier . Also weld locating tabs to the lower side of plate A so B can sit against it. Making alignment easier. Kind Regards.

When that car is done it will be something special. I had an idea on some brackets you make. Somewhere on the under the car when you make a bracket think about using the Cadillac emblem as a weight reduction method insteaad of a box or a rectangle. I think that would be pretty cool and it would be interesting for somebody that crawled up under the car and sees it without you ever making mention of it. Just a thought. When making multiple pieces that will go together, you can leave tabs on some pieces and cut slots in others to nest the parts together. It can really help depending on the situation. Can the software of the plasma cutter be told you are looking to do a radius? I would call their support and find out. Some of that software you can tell it that it’s gonna cut a straight line and you enter 2 points, then you tell the software it’s going to cut a Radius and hit the start point, a mid point and the endpoint of the radius. It will then draw in a perfect radius off of those points and you’re not making a ton of points to try to get one. Same thing with holes. You can tell it you want a hole and you pick a few spots (at least 3) and it will determine a hole center and size based off of those pints. If it can be programmed that way it will save you time and produce a cleaner part. Awesome video, keep up the great work!
