James’s sarcastic, passive aggressive comments he makes when he’s judging you will shatter your ego into millions of pieces 😂😂 it must be so demoralising being criticised by him for your efforts because he makes you feel incredibly stupid and inferior 😂😂
I left restaurants to cook at a crisis shelter for teens, a lot of whom have experienced food insecurity -- so from-scrach meals are a pretty big deal to them, let alone "fancy food". I hijacked Barry's pasta recipe, and HOT DAMN Y'ALL THEY LOST THEIR MINDS OVER IT. 👌MOLTO BENE, BAZ 👌
I’ve never seen this side of James’s character and it’s a bit creepy hearing him be nice and supportive 😂😂 he’s very rarely complementary of his friends in the kitchen and completely goes against the Sassy Ginger Scotsman’s personality that we’ve come to know and love 😂
I noticed all the normals are married or planning to be... I think James and Ben are just commonlaw married and looking after three enormous children at this point.
It would honestly pay dividends for the channel if videos like these had a dual perspective where we can watch the chaos of the kitchen in perfect synchrony to a camera focused on the audience on the side 😂😂 id love to just watch the chefs grimace and wince watching the carnage and errors strewn across the panic happening in the kitchen 😂
I think I've noticed why I like these '20 minute challenge' videos so much. Because they boil things down to their core, as done with the normals here. Each normal more or less has a theme that goes with their dishes that perfectly fits them. Barry is Quality, giving you a classy dish made in only 20 minutes. Jamie is Quantity, giving you as much food as he can make in 20 minutes. Mike is Technique, using various tricks to make food that you wouldn't think could be done in 20 minutes. It reflects how they are in other challenges. Barry makes his food to seem upscale. Jamie makes goes all in on the food giving you the most bang for your buck. And Mike, he shows off his skill in what he can do with what he's given.
This challenge was honestly so cruel because the normals never work at pace and typically spend most of their time flapping and stressing so giving them a limited timeframe to outperform their competitors is much more of a challenge than the video can ever do justice
@@Missmethinksalot1 There's a previous video where Jamie and Mike learn how to make eclairs with a pastry chef - Eric Lanlard. In the video Jamie tries to repeatedly show off to chef Lanlard and gets (hilariously) shut down with a sassy "no" from the chef. It's one of my favourite Sorted videos, i highly recomend!
"Cheese and spinach stuffed porked chop, wrapped in parma ham with rainbow chard" That's it. You've done it. You're not 'normies' anymore. You hung out with chefs too long!
My heart was in my throat the second he reached for the knife...I've seen far too many people do silly crap like that in professional kitchens, and seen it end poorly far too many times.
“If first and second place didn’t manage to put it on the plate, it would’ve been an outstanding winner” is Ben’s diplomatic speak for “the only way that dish can win is by default”
Barry and Jamie explaining their recipe: an awkward waiter. Mike explaining his recipe: your six year old trying to explain his ultimate dinner. So precious.
I’ve never read something that perfectly describes a topic like this one 😂😂 out of all the normals I wouldn’t have ever thought Mike would be the one who presented his dish in a basic and underwhelming way 😂 Barry and Jamie looking like the awkward waiters working their first shift trying to make their dishes sound extravagant and complex is so accurate because they identified every component in extreme depth
Was he flipping Barry off for not being able to work out the seconds earlier in the video or flipping Ben off for saying it that way? I really need to know
IDEAS: 1) comparing recipes throughout history! F.ex. A modern apple pie vs. an apple pie from post war vs an apple pie from medieval times.. 2) alphabetical cooking. First ingredient you use must start with an A, second a B, et cetera. OR stick to 1 letter 3) student-style: a battle with canned food only (no fresh produce)
Yes! I love the idea of using only canned/dried/frozen foods. Maybe let them have once fresh ingredient. Honestly I freeze so much food that at least 80% of my meals are mostly canned/dried/frozen ingredients
This is gooooood and one more detail i want to add the person who goes first has to use the least pretentious ingredients and that would of course jamie use pretentious ingredients This would be the curveball Least pretentious ingredients in other word must be everday house hold items just to clarify If posisble can we get good mythical mroning as judges they habe done a video before together
@@ghostlyjester9134 if you want to talk about pretentious, then why not have them only using pretentious ingredients, instrument, or even techniques. Like have them use any pretentious item they still have left or just steal from Barry's house (If anyone is using any one of Barry's own things except for him, the both would get brownie points(cause its Barry's stuff in the first place and I just want to see if Barry actually has any of them))
Boyfriend (listening from the kitchen) : Is that Sorted? What're they doing? Me: 20 minute meals Boyfriend: *pauses to listen* Is that Barry? Me: Yep Boyfriend: Oh god.
After binging this whole channel over the last couple months, it's amazing to see Jamie now vs early Jamie. He's turned into an incredible chef and is an inspiration to me to up my own cooking game!
Idea for a curveball: each of the competitors has a cooking utensil (knife, ladel, fork, etc.) stripped from them for the rest of the task. Either the judges or the other competitors can choose which utensil it is based on the dish they're making
Oh, a great way to do it is that they are told they are choosing for the next chef clockwise, and they have 5 minutes to choose, but once the 5 minutes are up and they state their choice, it's revealed they were actually choosing for themselves. The realization that they sabotaged themselves when they were trying to sabotage the others would be brilliant.
i can't even begin to express just how much i love James' commentary. the shade, the sass, the automatic cooking corrections,... so much to make me smile. exactly what i needed today
You just know he felt like the main character in that moment and gained full confidence because he knocked Ebbers off his high horse by not succumbing to the unnecessary pedantic sarcasm yet staying in control and on track to achieve a delectable final result
Just the choice between 'like' and 'not like'. Dude, I'd love to 'like' it thirty times, so much! This is what cooking is about. Experience, failures, effort, a goal, ambition. You've done an amazing job altogether. Thank you so much. It was such a joy to watch this episode!
These time battles must give James and Ebbers such an enlightening firsthand insight into the chaos and drama that happens in a normals 10 minutes in a Pass It On
I feel like Jamie's was actually the easiest of the three, Mike's the hardest. The fact that all three pulled it off means, to me at least, that the most ambitious one (Mike's, with 3-4 elements including a roux) should have won. And Barry managed to make pancetta bread, for goodness' sake. Regardless, I loved this format and found the whole thing hilarious!
I made a friend from the UK over RU-vid (I’m in Seattle) and she got so excited when she found out I watch you men-children (I say that with so much love) and she’s so excited to talk to me all about you guys now 😂 y’all bring people together ❤️
Finding friends that enjoy the channel is always a treat. A longtime friend (also in Seattle!) recognized my Deece shirt and we gushed over the show. :D
This was really great. I know they work through the recipes with James and probably Ben before doing them, but I doubt they did any trial runs of a 20 minute cook and it made it very entertaining to watch!
When ben answered: "200 seconds" A thought came to my mind....can you guys make a challenge where in they have to answer MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS during the challenge. Wrong answers = decrease in time.... .....SORRY 😂
When they were reviewing the dishes, anyone else get the vibe that James and Ben were just remarkably proud of and impressed by their non-chefy friends? It was really sweet.
Recommend pass it on ideas: - Each person can only use 4 ingredients each -They can only use the microwave -The order is by shoe prices -They only can use fancy ingredients
Now those were three great looking dishes, but I think James stole the show. "You've got time to make that look good, mate" lmfao Great video, as usual. Keep it up!
they did so well.... i want to give barry extra points for the fact that his dish is Honestly done without stress in 20minutes, which would be ideal for people who are actually Looking to make one at home with that time limit.
All the dishes looked amazing! At this level, I think we're hard-pressed to call the normals "normals." They've come a long, long way from those early days!! Kudos!
I think they’ve taken this more seriously than any other challenge. It’s almost like if they aren’t sabotaging each other... they can actually cook remarkably 👨🍳
The boys at the end when the winners were being announced ,you can tell have been pushed to their limit and they are still recovering from the intensity. Super proud of them
When the boys started laughing at the pressure cooking of Mike, and Mike joined with the laugh. That was the moment I realized that Mike is insane a bit xD
I know this is an old video. But i just realized why I enjoy watching these kind of videos over TV cook shows. They are not competing over a big prize. They are friends and trying to cook good dishes while having fun.
I consider myself to be a decent home cook, but all three of those dishes blew me away with what they did. Barry with the flat bread, Jamie with the stuffed glazed pork chops, and Mike with the the entire plate. Well done guys!
Got an idea... the chefs doing some recipes from either the Fallout: The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook or the World of Warcraft: The Official Cookbook.
20 minutes!.... .......if you've pre -weighed all the ingredients and have all the right equipment including a freezer you can put warm items into without worrying about it defrosting, and a fancy food processor.
