a theme could be student meals, with a lot people moving to uni next month. getting students into the kitchen with easy and tasty recipes would be good. would save them some money instead of buying take out. could end with an ultimate battle to see who could make the best meal under a certain amount of money.

I can't be the only one here after Barry's horrified realization that he has to make the pie again.

Whenever I hear "fondant potatoes" I think "why would you put fondant icing paste on potatoes?!"

In addition to the few extra minutes of blind baking, Barry's pie might have benefitted from cutting a few vents in the top pastry. The steam from the filling would have been able to escape and there would have been less risk of a soggy pastry bottom.

My heart broke for Barry. Honestly. He goes all in, chef jacket included, searching for that last brownie point, does an AMAZING recipe, and... Oh my god. You're the winner in our hearts Barry

After seeing those reactions I knew I had to make that salt bae'd chicken. So last night I tried it and it really was great, juicy chicken. Success! (Tip: cover the baking tray with foil, because getting the crust off was a lot of work, even after a night of soaking.) However, when comparing work/result/costs with my standard method of making baked chicken, it loses, so I probably won't make it again. In case anyone is curious, my usual way of preparing chicken is by coating big chicken legs with some beaten egg, generously sprinkle them with chicken spices, bake on a rack at 180C for 45 min, coat them with egg again and bake for 15 min more. Delicious crispy chicken.

Barry's pie, although under cooked, is something I would order. That looks amazing. That chicken skin looked tasty. I'm still in shock that Jamie's chicken came out so good. I feel like doing this one day at home just to scare my family. Mike's sandwhich looked really good. But my vote still went to Barry. He's been trying so hard to catch up.

Isn't salt-caked chicken a thing in China and Hong Kong? It's quite commonly served in restaurants, but most restaurants substituted the actual salt-caking with MSG...... Jamie, you got my damn vote cuz that looks absolutely delicious. And how does the egg taste... Dice it up and it would be great garnish for the salad, btw.

I'm on a Sorted marathon and have watched all the battles at least twice (up to four/five times), and this is one of the funniest battles ever. My cheeks hurt. Even if I wasn't laughing, I was smiling so hard. This is the worst because Barry deserved better than that uncooked pastry... BUT this is also one of the best because I would genuinely eat all of those dishes. #fave

Jamie's recipe reminds me of a medieval recipe called 'Chicken in the Snow'. I've had it at medieval feasts, and the salt crust makes the meat very tender by holding in the juices. Delicious!!

I also thought that Barry was going to be the winner because that pie was gorgeous. The idea was also great. So so sorry that the pastry wasn't all the way cooked.
