I absolutely LOVE Frankenstein. It is one of my favorite classics. This is such an excellent plan for a deep dive into all things Mary Shelley and Frankenstein. I have had The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein for a while, but I haven't read it yet. Eynhallow sounds interesting. I'm looking forward to following your content throughout March!

I am so glad it's your favorite classic! I have been wanting to get to different retellings but I've put them to the side because it feels like a waste to read it when I haven't gotten to the original source material. I am chomping at the bit to get to my March TBR!!

This sounds so great Lauren! There’s a great picture book called She Made A Monster: How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein that you may like. The illustrations are gorgeous and moody. not sure if I’ll get to reading anything Frankenstein related but may try to watch some things. Have an awesome month!

The Children on the Hill for sure has Frankenstein vibes. I really like Jennifer McMahon’s books - the format of the dual timeline and her character development.

Ooh a lot of these sound really good! Need to add them to my list. I've herd of Eynhallow and people loving it, I already added that one to my list. I'm here ready to read through Frankenstein and tomorrow (since it's my pick for movie night), we'll be watching Frankenstein. :3 Which means I'll be watching the movie first before starting the book, but that's fine. Also I was sitting there just staring at all your Frankenstein decor in the background! I love your wall of decor so much. 🖤

I did get to Eynhallow a few weeks ago! I really really really enjoyed the beginning, but it totally lost me in the last 25% of the book, which was devastating to not enjoy, because I was super gripped by our main character 😥

@@happyhauntslibrary Oh no! It's a real shame when books fall flat at the end after really enjoying it up until that point. So sorry, hate it when that happens. I still might give it a shot myself, but I'll warily side eye that ending.

I'm not sure yet if I'll re-read Frankenstein this month, but I'm planning to read Mary's Monster by Lita Judge and My Imaginary Mary by Hand, Ashton & Meadows. If you haven't seen The Frankenstein Chronicles with Sean Bean, I really enjoyed the first season!

Your book club is legit my fave 📚Frankenstein is so much fun to teach and I know you all will have some awesome discussions! 👻 And I’ll take any excuse to revisit the universal movies and Frankenhooker. Might even have to do a Rocky Horror midnight showing in honor of your theme 🍿 Probably won’t do a reread but I’m planning on reading 1-Mary Shelly and the Rights of the Child and 2-Frankenstein: A Cultural History. Hoping they’re good! 😊 This will be fun!

I just saw the Rocky horror picture show for the very first time a few days ago in honor of my Mary Shelley March! I can’t believe it has taken me this long! More importantly THANK YOU SO MUCH for your gift that I just opened!! Seriously you’re so kind to think of me and to send these goodies my way. That art print is literally the coolest thing ever!!!!!!!!!! And I’m dying over the tarot card 😍😍😍😍 thank you endlessly, Liz! You’re seriously the best! Gonna be a ton of Franken-fun. I think I'll read the 1818 original edition of Frankenstein as the original text is supposed to be fairly different from the more conventional revised edition read more commonly. Oh...Re-Animator...just be aware there are some...uh questionable to the modern eye sequences. Son of Frankenstein is GREAT. Ghost of Frankenstein is NOT. Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man....rocks but in a cheesy way (it is also responsible for the Franken-walk and there is a good reason for that, I'll explain in the live hahaha). House of Frankenstein is pretty good. House of Dracula is not terrible but not good either hahaha. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein is A MUST watch as it is tremendously funny. Ooooh those essays sound really cool! I have the Junji Ito thing on hold tooo! I have the Elizabeth Frankenstein book too. I should read it! Looks like a great month.

@happyhauntslibrary So Reanimator is based off of an HP Lovecraft story (don't read it...the surprise racism near the end ruined my entire day) but it also had a novelization because the 80s were wild LOL

Yess!! ⚡💚 I love Frankenstein!! Omg!! Frankenhooker is one of my favorite movies 😂 it's hilarious. I enjoyed Siren Queen! It does have a lot of classic Hollywood! I need to read the Mary Shelley club as well!! I just watched Mary Shelley from 2017 and It was a little disappointing 😂 but it was kind of fun!

I am so glad you love Frankenhooker so much. I heard about it fairly recently and the plot got me so excited. It sounds so much like Lisa Frankenstein!! And is the 2017 Mary Shelley movie the one with Elle Fanning? Eek! I had a feeling it wasn't going to be worth the time.

Good luck with all the Frankensteins. I was a little disappointed with It's Alive but hope you like it. It's a shame that Gods and Monsters (both the book and the film) have kind of disappeared from the Frankenstein landscape.

I was watching some special features about Frankenstein and they showed clips of Gods and Monsters. I thought, “oh that sounds like an interesting watch” but oh no! Do you mean it’s not available physically or just steaming? Or that’s it’s rarely talked about?

@@happyhauntslibraryMostly that it is rarely talked about. It plays with the idea of Frankenstein in a lot of ways dealing with director James Whale's homosexuality. I'm not sure of the streaming status but when it was released it got multiple Oscar nominations.
