I love how creative they get with this. But I'm still waiting for budget gourmet. How to make a 5 star meal on a 1 star budget. It'd be incredible and I'd love to be able hear from actual chefs on what the best way to buy, organize, and meal prep your food
The secret is, know what is local, what is cheap, and what is easy to fix. That varies depending on where you are. I have eaten stewed okra and tomatoes with fried bread, because that was what I had available, and how I could eat for like, 65 cents. Really, tomatoes on clearance were 15 cents, okra was 20 cents, most expensive part of the meal was the butter for the bread.
Lucinda i'm thinking it's to prevent the inside of the sandwich to become overcooked... Since the whole thing would have been exposed to heat longer if it had been cooked in the oven !
Barry missed a very important point of the bacon weave. You cook it in the oven before you drape it over something. You could have even tried putting the whole sandwich in the oven. Trying to griddle a bacon-weave encrusted sandwich would be way too hard, and you end up with raw bacon on much of the sandwich.
I thought he was heading for the oven for sure. No way all the layers of bacon would have been properly cooked. For that reason I feel his was a pity point.
Kenneth Rountree blergh. I'd rather eat raw bacon and possibly get sick before eating deep fried bacon. The bread would have soaked up all the oil as well. I expect one sandwich like that would shorten your life by 10 years😂
Bacon is generally smoked/cured, so it's not really 'raw'. You could eat the bacon straight from the package, although it would be nasty tasting, and the only fear should be listeria(and judging).
i love how inconsistent jamie is with these battles cause one time he'll just like, make something that essentially takes 5 minutes of prep and the next he'll just.. make homemade ketchup.
I went with barry since Jamie's would've taken more than an hour to make a bacon sandwich and it was so messy. They didn't even try to hold it!!Thats the whole appeal of a sandwich!!
I personally think adding gochujang to the cheese sauce was a brilliant idea. It's spicy, so it gives some kick but at the same time, the fat in the sauce helps counteract the capsaicin so it's not *too* spicy
My favorite bacon sandwich was Bread Dijon mustard Provalone cheese Bacon ( cooked with a little maple syrop) Thinly sliced apples Bread. ....i swear it's delicious...especially if you grill it in a pan....♡
Friendly note! Gochujang is pronounced Goh-choo (sharp) jahng. It is a traditional fermented paste we in Korea use in basically everything. We also have another paste made of dried soybeans, similar to Japanese miso, known as Doenjjang, which is traditionally dried in blocks that you hang from the ceiling, but is far more complex then non fermented soybean pastes.
Note for the future, the Korean language doesn't really have a hard "ang" sound. It's pronounced somewhere along the lines of "gko - chu - jaaaang". Try punching it into google translate and doing the speaker option. It isn't always accurate with any language, but it probably is a better guideline than just staring at the word until you think you got it. On other news, I've just discovered new ways to use my 고추장 in sandwiches. I'm excited!
Personally, a sandwich or burger is a full all ingredient experience in one bite, so make it stuffable size for human mouth. While all 3 sandwiches consist of excellent components, jamie has made something harder to eat. I vote for Barry. Mike is the clear winner here. Jamie's looked amazing and I'd bury my face in it, but at the end I want a sandwich that I can hold. And as much as I like bacon, Barry's was just revolting, undercooked and playing far more to internet karma than to actual flavor.
For Jamie's write over instructions, I don't know why but I read them in Ben's voice. I will admit to replaying it once or twice for giggles. Thanx guys for a great battle.
I always love your videos, but man, I could not stop smiling throughout the video, and laughing for about half of the time. The banter, come backs, jokes, everything. You always have a serious-but-not-so-serious wonderful thing going on in your vids, but this was just so silly and so genuinely funny. Frikkfrakk, I just wanna keep praising you, you guys are wonderful.
Mike's would be my favorite for everyday bacon-ing. But Barry's does win me over because kimchi. However, I feel like Barry's sandwich would have been easier to make had he cooked it in the oven on a rack with a pan underneath to catch the grease.

These all made my already high cholesterol skyrocket. I agree with Ben, Barry's was the winner for a bacon sandwich. He did a great job on the weave. Jamie's gave me a heart attack just looking at it, but I'd like to try just a bite of it. Mike's would be good for a weekend brunch, sitting in the gazebo with nothing to do but relax.
The bagel Mike used looked kind of sad. Do you not get good bagels in the UK? It was a good idea, except that the "man-mosa" is creepy. Gendering your food is weird. I get what Jamie was going for, and I'm on board with it except for two things: the middle piece of bread should have been toasted before putting the sandwich together, and hot lettuce is gross. You're better off making a bacon croque madame and then serving it with a fresh side salad. Overall, I'd give this one to Barry.
Jamie is the best :D he make a bacon sandwich while making a bacon sandwich and when Barry is unsure about the bacon weave he turns around, and gives up on him totally. There goes years of friendship.
These look amazing, it was so damn hard to choose. Also maybe slightly disappointed noone used maple syrup. I feel like maple syrup and bacon would have been amazing. I love how how you boys give each other shit all the time, its half the reason I'm subscribed to this channel.
Finally wise enough to only search for food videos of the food that I'm eating in the moment 😜 soooo hard to watch these videos while hangry and inconvenienced. Cheers, fellas.
