It's amazing how he never suffered any serious injuries essentially fighing the way he did, while so many of our stars today seem to have perpetual glass ankles and paper thin hamstrings just from making contested jumpshots.
I'm actually curious about that. We claim sports medicine is better but it seems players get injured way more now than the past. In the past the rules were more looser, physical and agressive in all sports compared today. Even in boxing. The refs will never let a fight like Arturo gatti vs Micky ward go as many rounds as it did in the day. But yet athletes are injured WAY more today than the past.
@@BountyRogueCinemax I think that, connecting to what Josh Connor said, it might be because today's athletes are more focused on branding, social media, and enjoying their money (and they do make much more money than athletes of the past). Perhaps they don't train as hard or as consistently and so their bodies aren't as ready when they do compete.
He’s obviously got a rep as a wild man but talk about an athlete with absolutely zero temper whatsoever. The more frustrated his competitors got, the more he knew he was winning. Absolutely legend.
Just imagine being 6'7 & 230 lbs and playing ELITE ball against some of the best PF and C of the 80s and 90s and not only defending at a the highest level ever but also rebounding against them and saving balls....
Anyone who loves hockey should love Rodman. He's a hockey player in a basketball sized body. For those who don't watch, hockey is mostly a struggle for possession its back and forth until one team controls the puck long enough to run set plays or get a goal on a fastbreak so hockey players spend most of their time trying to get the puck. That is exactly how Rodman played basketball. He couldn't score very well but damned if that mattered at all he just wanted the ball whether it was a missed shot, a casual dribble, loose ball or shot block Rodman went for it every time. 6'7" and had back to back years with 18 rpg and 7 straight rebounding titles. Easily a top 5 defensive player of all time.
Jordan personally took responsibility for Rodman when they brought him on. Note that whenever Rodman did get heated, the man jumping between him and whoever it was was always Jordan. He knew the kind of asset Rodman was on the court, and the only thing that could stop him was himself.
Dennis Rodman makes today's NBA players look like WNBA players when it comes to toughness. He's about 6'6" and he held his own against Shaq. Let that sink in.
This is the kind of basketball that I love. Guys who hustle & play with heart! You don't need to always score to be a good player and to be valuable for your team. Knowing how to disrupt the defense and fight for every possession of the ball matters way more than most fans (and even many players) realize. And its something that doesn't always show up on the stat sheet so in some ways it almost feels like a lost art these days... Nobody did it better than Rodman in my opinion.
This man is amazing with all his rolls... leaps..tumbles....stretches and jumps!!! I don't care about his stats its his wild die hard dedicated performance for me! I wonder how many bruises and cuts he endured over the course of his career! I'm hurting just watching! Lol Gotta love Dennis!!!❤❤❤
I was at a game where one of his iconic horizontal save attempts occurred. It was clear to me that it was already out and he was doing it for the cameras. That’s ok. The crowd. LOVED it.
He got to play aggressive bc he knows how to land when he dives or falls. He’s super smart and knows how to mitigate the absorption of the fall to prevent injury.
Ultimate teammate. Imagine having a guy who makes all the plays required for your team to win. He's getting every rebound and defending the best player on the other team. He will never get enough credit.
