Hullo Emily, I have never found a great solution for traveling with art supplies and personal items together. I have used several different kinds of bags with straps for support and most are to wonky to provide a stable rest area. I did use a mono pole to support the weight of my travel easel. Rather like the James Gurney boards, with the mono pole screwed into the camera mount they have the same mounting screw that is used on tripods! You must support the board from angular movement but the pole supports the weight. I made it work for years before I became a permanent sitting Artist. I simply cannot work standing anymore. I did enjoy watching your review and your videos are very well done! Thank you for sharing this traveling kit with us. Please take care, be safe and enjoy your day!

I have the exact same spray bottle. And I loved the waterfall painting. I think more people should dare to paint outside. And especially I think art teachers should go with the students outside to paint plain air. When I was in high school our teacher always had a page full of questions about our field trips but we never properly learned watercolor and never drew outside. In fact they never even taught any technique or medium properly. I had to teach myself as an adult because my thirst to draw and paint was not filled in school.
@EmilyOlsonArt
@EmilyOlsonArt 11 месяцев назад
Yes, “art” in school tends to more crafts, which is fine-but learning to draw and hold a brush are foundational.

@EMILYOLSONART but for example watwrcolor techniques like being able lift color back up with the paint brush. How to control or direct color, charging with color. Wet on damp, not only wet on dry or wet on wet, neutralizing color and we never learned proper color theorie besides mixing secondary colors. It stopped there, nothing about tertiary color or how to make grey without the use of Chinese white. Even though that is the most simple thing. It wS just very lacking. I learned it all on my own because I always loved watercolor. The delicacy and translucency of it. But now that I know those techniques I love watwrcolor even more.

I haven’t taken a chair with me on trips, but I do have the Cliq chair-it’s lightweight and can be squeezed into a backpack.

I watched a Mind of Watercolor video the other day and you doubled up on that one. Made for an interesting lesson. So much so that I subscribed to your channel as I am already subscribed to his. I am always on the lookout for different lessons via different perspectives. Great way to learn and enjoy the process at the same time. I’m looking forward to more as I go back in time to see what you have presented in the past. Of course I am looking to the future as well. -OkieSketcher 1949

Nice review Emily. I am always looking for new and interesting sketching products. I’ve been painting exclusively in watercolor for much longer than you have been alive, I’m sure. I use a product found in the children’s department of IKEA. It has a hard cover made of wood, zipper opening , I can carry my sketch book, water container, brushes, eraser, etc. if you like I can send a photo. Let me know. I also have very strong magnets that holds my Lucas palette on the board. Anyway keep up the great videos. They are great. ❤

Hello Emily from Madrid, Spain (fellow wildlife artist and plein air/urban sketcher from New York & expat living abroad). I have been in search for the "right" (or more "practical") Sketchers Easel bag at World Wide level and I have studied many through the internet and RU-vid, but only 1 fits the bill best, and it still needs minor adjustments, though... So, what am I looking for in a "Sketchers Easel Bag"? 1. One bag for everything: my personal stuff (keys, wallet, smartphone, etc.) Without getting carried away. 2. Small, light weight and easy to carry: considering the bag as an EDC with essentials (personal and Art things, including up to an A4 size sketchbook), but something inconspicuous that looks like a bag and is in fact a bag (messenger type). 3. Converts into an easel: without the need for a tripod, has a sturdy hard surface where you can draw/paint standing up, and hands free to just paint. 4. Economically viable: something that's worth it's money for value, but that you don't have to sell a kidney to purchase it, whilst being of good quality for the long term. Under these parameters, which I believe many thousands of Artists have and agree on, I have found only several world wide (I've been doing my personal R&D for a full year already) that fit some if the parameters... Good Artist Bags but are not easels: JustGoSketching Companion, Joe Miller's Travel Painter, etc... Many Art bags out there, but no EASEL (without a tripod). Only 2 bags fill those parameters: - Etchr Slate Mini Satchel: great bag for carrying everything (though not too good to include personal belongings in an easy and accessible manner) and can be used as a portable easel (standing up with it, etc.), but won't fit an A4 (there's a bigger size, but I think it's too big to be an EDC for all ages). Note: pretty pricy but good quality. 2. Darsie Beck's Field Easel Art Bag: I think it's the only one that complies with all the parameters listed. It's a bag, looks like a bag and acts like any bag. Will fit all your personal and Art stuff (again, what's needed, not a full art studio). You can fit up to an A4 sketchbook. It's an easel (standing up, sitting, anywhere) so no need to carry a tripod (based on parameters for my personal search). And... It's still a bit "wee" expensive for my taste, but doable. I sttingly belueve is the best option I have encountered so far. I am planning on getting one next Autumn. Note: lack of distribution and vendors to purchase from, so from Europe is a bit more difficult. I do post the following question, though... Why are NO other companies, etc... more focused on these types of bags for urban and plein air sketching on the go, where you have a convenient easel (hard surface included for drawing/painting) and polivalent (without being ginormeous) enough to also carry personal belongings? I just do not understand... from a market perspective I am sure there is a market for such products. Well... I am truly sorry for such a long comment. I hope it may help others in their search, and thank you for your great channel and content. It is wonderful! Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎

Forgot to include (important) that I need such an Art Easel Bag for sketching outdoors with dry media (graphite, coloured pencils, etc) and wet media (Ink & Wash, Watercolor and Gouache), and personal EDC. Sorry and thanks! 😁👍

My problem with these bags is that you always have to have another bag with you for your personal belongings. And the two together are already much less practical. I'd rather have my sketchbook separate and a limited selection of tools in one small folder like the ArtKit folder. Those I can fit into my bag or backpack which I will have to carry anyway.
@NelaDunato
@NelaDunato Год назад
I came to the same conclusion. I keep my entire travel sketching kit in a toiletry bag that I just move around to different bags, depending on where I'm going. I'm still unconvinced that a special artist bag would be more practical.
