The inclusion of VRChat was incredible necessary. That game (or social platform even) singlehandedly changed my life. I know it sounds cringe in retrospect, but when you have the chance to meet people who are so relevant, kind, and truly give you a light on what it's like to have people who truly care for you, EVEN if they're just people through a screen, it still hits as real as real friends can. The friends I've made in VRchat, I've soon met in real life and it was as if nothing changed. While VRchat is a cesspool of trolls, shitposting and mindless fun, the depth and potential to make meaningful and genuine relationships are beyond comprehension, it's amazing. Thank you Skooch for talking about this!

I feel like a fucking evangelist everytime I recommend this, but now you need to play Skyrim VR modded the fuck out lol. Look up "Wabbajack Cangar", makes modding the game child's play. Being able to eat food with a fork, talk to NPC and use shouts with your voice, and slapping Nazeem in his smug ass face is too fucking badass to put into words... VR is incredible and I have had experiences that just blew my mind. An example is a game called Onward. The maps look realistic enough to feel like you are in the middle of a forest, jungle, or a snow covered mountain. Mimicking the actions of aiming, shooting, and reloading a gun. Having to duck behind cover or even lay flat on my stomach to get as low as possible. It only takes 1 or 2 bullets to kill you and you get 1 life per round. The gun shots are the loudest sound in the game. You are roaming around trying to stay hidden and it's very quiet. Then suddenly you get your ear drums blown out and in a moment of terror you hit the ground faster than the dead body next to you that was your teammate a second ago. The gun fire stopped. You peek out and don't see anyone anywhere. You have no idea where they are. Then another burst of bullets fly past your face.

21:10 On this note, Valve, the company behind Half Life Alyx, was originally planning on shipping their next title as VR exclusive, trademarked "Neon Prime", but as you said, the market is too small so they changed it. In fact Valve dropped interest in VR substantially due to the fact the HL: Alyx wasn't as impactful as they wanted it to be, despite likely being the best VR game to date.

such a good video, genuinely. As for the VRchat aspect? I agree with how you explained it almost fully. I'm on the side of the community that VSL helps, as I typically didn't talk much (if ever, really) both in and out of the game and having a platform such as VRC to feel more comfortable w/ myself as well as finding people likeminded was something that can truly only be explained by experiencing it yourself. Not gonna ramble any more than I already have though, great video as always skooch

VR was life changing for me. I got one for my birthday right after a long fight with alcoholism, and as the old saying goes “idle hands do the devil’s work” the oculus was my new addiction, so many woah moment’s that it really kept me occupied, and sober! I got healthier, happier, and got back into other hobbies that used to bring me so much joy. I can’t say the oculus was the only reason to quit drinking, but helped me. VR can also be frustrating, but get through some of the jank and you can find some gems.

What I love about VR is that it's a fast escape. I play an hour at a time maybe once a week, and I feel like I've gone on a fast vacation. Meanwhile I need 3 hours in flat screen gaming to get a similar affect. That 3 to 1 ratio has proven to be pretty consistent for myself. I game way less, but I feel like I get way way more emotional benefit form it. I've noticed a lot of guys in psvr are guys in their 30s who don't have the time for regular flat screen gaming. flatscreen gaming is getting high, vr gaming is like going for a jog.

Honestly, I TOTALLY want to recommend a cool VR game called "Jet Island". It's an open-world game where you are given a hoverboard to ride on, a Spider-Man type grappling hook and blaster gun and can explore a massive island filled with nothing but ramps, loops, boost pads, swingable ledges and secret unlockables. But the coolest part? The game has 4 MASSIVE Shadow of the Colossus style bosses around the map that you have to find and take down. It's insanely addictive just gathering tons of momentum, hitting insane jumps and swinging around literally like Spider-Man AND has online multiplayer, so you and your friends can all skate around the island together. 10/10 VR game.

VRChat has had an indescribable influence on my life. I'm honestly not even sure where to start. This story is long and full of love and heartache and friends who come and go. It's full of the best and worst kind of people. It's silly and emotional and really captures the beauty in human connection, even without physical touch. I first installed VRChat on a cold, December evening all the way back in 2017. I had a small group of misfit kids with abnormal schooling situations and after we learned it was free to play AND desktop friendly, we decided to give it a shot. I never realized it would change my life the way it has. I was instantly drawn into the more personal nature of the "game". I didn't have to make myself small and hide my physical body the way I feel I do in the real world. I could so easily spark conversations with people in ways I never had the confidence to do. I met so many amazing people in just those first 3 months. One of my oldest friends, both in age and length of knowing each other, was one of the first people I met. He's like my cool uncle who let me stay at his place when my parents fought. He's older than my mom, but that didn't stop the way we befriended each other. Sure, you would think a 39 year old man befriending an almost 18 year old would be weird, but it just wasn't. He gave me wisdom and insight. He stuck around when I was too much for myself to handle. He gave me a place to vent and cry and be open and honest about my life. I'm so so grateful that I have him in my corner to this day. Then there's Nathan. I'm still convinced on some level that he and I are soulmates, but things just didn't work out. We lived in different countries. I had my own idea of what a family looked like and he had his. We failed to communicate on the most basic level some days and in the end, it was our downfall. I will never forget him flying out and spending 3 weeks of our lives together. I will never forget the way his eyes shined and sparkled when we looked at each other. I'll never forget us sitting down and playing games while he brushed my hair. I will never forget how caring and kind he was to every single person he met. Even when I was bitter and angry at the way I allowed us to fall apart, he was still just trying to be happy and keep the peace. I don't regret ending it, but I do regret some of the things I said to him. I hope he forgives me, even if we're not in each others' lives anymore. I just wanted him to be happy. I jumped around from friend group to friend group for a while and occasionally became romantically involved with different people. I ended up in a dinky little club called Quartz and met the most amazing people. I met a boy and things happened and then it fell apart. I found friends to lean on. Specifically Khi and her boyfriend, Rad. They were like guardian angels to me. Khi became my best friend in a matter of months. Rad was like an older brother to me. I finally felt at home and at peace with myself and my life and my situation. I had people to fight for me if I needed it, and they did. Khi kept me safe and sane and always said it like she saw it. Rad was emotionally distant, but I always felt safe going to him with my problems. Unfortunately, with some unforeseen circumstances, we fell apart. Rad grew distant. Khi disappeared. I was just kind of left to my own devices and was starting to spiral mentally. I felt like I was finally picking myself back up, Khi showed up. She had a new boy. Had new friends. She felt so far away. I kinda realized I should make my own friends and tried. Unfortunately, she got upset because I no longer prioritized her over everything and everyone else. It led to our downfall. I miss her. I miss her so much. But maybe this is how it's going to be. I uninstalled vrchat, cleared my friends lists, and took down my vr setup. I finally reinstalled VRChat while this video was playing, but it's really bittersweet. I'm not sure if I'll ever put my VR back up, but that doesn't change how much my life has diverted from the path I thought it was going down all because of this stupid little game I installed way back in 2017. I will NEVER regret the way my life has panned out because of this game. It has given me new perspectives on how we interact. It has changed how I view relationships. It has allowed me to connect with people I would have NEVER EVER met in my entire life. I love the new direction of the channel Skooch. Keep it up man. ❤

My first time in VR was at a friend's house on the Oculus Rift DK1, and ever since then, I've been hooked. I grew up loving Sword Art Online, Ready Player One, and The Matrix. So VR's concept really intrigued me. I remember getting a Google Cardboard and having my mind blown. Then, I got a Samsung GearVR, and my mind was further blown. After that, I got an Oculus Go, which wasn't much of an upgrade from GearVR. Finally, I got my Quest 2 back in 2020 after launch. VR has come so far, and it will only go further.

I had a Virtual Boy sitting on the table from around 2005 to 2008 and EVERYONE loved it, even people that couldn't care less about video games. When people came over they'd argue over whose turn it was, while the Xbox that was 6 feet away gathered dust. I got it as a present when I was a kid, forgot about it (I only had 2 games) then dug it back out in highschool. I guess it was over hyped at launch, but it was definitely really cool on it's own.

I remember playing the Oculus Dev Kit 1 with my friend in 2013. I was completely sold after playing sunny Vista, dread halls, and then.... WINDLANDS! My friends would fan me while I stood up and pretended to run while I played and the sensation felt so real.

I got VR back in October to connect with an old friend and VRChat has done so much for me already, once you get past the surface level of degenerates it can be so much fun! Who knew a video game with the entire premise as "just be social" could be so fun? and now I'm working on becoming an avatar creator and do retextures :')

Karnage is one of the first VR games I played where it felt like it was a real games rather than a sim of a game. I played through the whole game with a friend on impossible mode, all bosses spawned first try, no issues disconnecting or clipping and we both played on wireless pc via Quest through Virtual Desktop. Still a fun game and pretty challenging on impossible single player.

Ngl I was pretty scared going into the video, since I've been saving money to buy myself a Quest 2 for my birthday next month, and the thought of one of my fav RU-vidrs saying it was shit and not worth your money scared me since I've been wanting this for so long. But gladly it didn't! It made me more confident in my purchase actually and I hope to have as much fun as Skooch is having when I do get them, thanks for the great review, love your perspective in these things and I'm hyped for the future of your Can We Talk About This series, keep up the amazing work! :)

I've got a valve index and let me tell you VR is loads of fun! Star wars squadrons was recently free on the epic games store and piloting a tie fighter was yet another example in how immersive and beautiful VR can be. Which is why I worry when you say you're getting a Quest, the field of view is really small and a lot of PCVR titles that have quest versions end up getting mangled so they can run on the quest. You'll want to look up the term "questified" to see the graveyard of once beloved games that got downgraded so it could run on the platform. Unless you're sure you just want the standalone or plug and play experience, I'd recommend saving up a little more for something better.

@@power50001562 That does sound cool! Don't worry, as much as I'm hyped for vr, I don't think I'll buy that many games on the platform, I don't tend to buy them for pc either, I tend to stick to few games until I'm bored and I mainly want to get VR for Beat Saber! Thanks for the tip on searching for games tho! I didn't know about it, I'll make sure to use it if I do but something more

Great video, thanks for putting it together! VR needs advocates. The only thing I want to point out, is that with so many bad games out there, you have chosen the wrong one as example of bad: Karnage Chronicles is actually a superb VR title. I don't know if it was the case when it came out, maybe was buggy and then they patched it. Or maybe you just had a bad start with it and you didn't trust keep playing (first level is a bit flat). It is probably to be considered more of a multiplayer game. Visuals are beautiful (rare treat in VR) and there is a real fully fledged COOP Campaign 4 players: this is definitely a unique plus for VR, we have had so much fun playing this with friends. Although the levels are quite linear, there are actual secrets hidden behind interesting puzzles; there are stores to upgrade your weapon, useful potions and magic items, each store is unique, with a small story around it, and weapons, they actually look all different; bosses and mini bosses with unique mechanics, giant traps, etc etc. Apart from this, what you said about bad VR games it's true: they really drag the moral down.

Skooch, i would like to thank you for doing this video. I am a big proponent for the absolute possibilities that VR can handle. I would also like to add, in terms of things like VR chat expanding a community, There are things like VR chat Roleplays that have been and continue to be produced by people, telling stories in a variety of settings, moods and immersiveness. From Sitting and having a drink with anyone and possibly everyone from across the mutiverse in Purple lotus, a casino and bar, to Ascension academy, which i describe as harry potter meets FIre Emblem Three Houses, to a project that i'm apart of, Fractured Thrones, which is a grimdark high fantasy inspired by things like LotR and Warhammer fantasy. I have seen people flock to twitch and youtube channels to watch each session of these RPs to see the interconnected and greater stories at play, whether it's about two robots who come to a bar and cause chaos by accident, a secret dark force that was long sealed away slowly getting itself freed, or the daily lives of Villagers who just don't want to be murced by an invading army, so they fight sentient mushroom monsters and rats to run through a magical portal that nearly kills a dryad or an elf.

The different control schemes trigger me so hard. Quest 2 has this awesome "first steps in VR" feature that lets you get familiar with the controllers, but then when you launch a game, they do it completely different.
