This is my let's play channel just in case you want to hang out for more discussions. Thanks for watching.

They stopped competing for best company and all decided to aim for worst lol

It's disappointing to watch the industry sort of cannibalize itself.

This industry has basically no standards either when it comes to how they treat their workers, or at least didn't until the last 5 years.

I think sometimes they just do these acquisitions in order to make sure the studio they acquired isn't competing with them anymore, then they shut it down because they didn't really want them.

It's so strange right now. Whether it's government, Hollywood, gaming, comic books, etc. There seems to be such *disdain* toward the general public by those in higher up positions. They'd rather cannibalize than to give the common everyman what they want. They seem to forget that all that separates them from us is money. Strip that away, and they poop and put their pants on one leg at a time - just like the rest of us. Those in power need to be humbled... and removed.

I was laid off at the end of my probation for failing to keep up with the demands of the work at my last job in the games industry at Sony PlayStation London. The only way to have a chance at staying there was to crunch my brain out (which meant working on the weekends too so I don't fall behind on Mondays) and the only redeeming factor was that there was a canteen where every employee got free breakfast and lunch.

My favorite controversy will always be the Loot Box controversy. The justifications and lies were just hilarious: "This is just a small part of the game, players don't need to do this." "This isn't gambling these are more Surprise Mechanics" "According to our numbers this is what players want"

What I find really annoying is that, the more advanced gaming graphics & effects get, the more sanitized & bland they also get. What a waste in utilizing such advancing technology. A game like Stellar Blade should not even be controversial but celebrated in a fun, edgy, beautiful and sexy manner. Sexy and beautiful characters like that of Stellar Blade need to exist in the gaming industry most especially with the advanced gaming technology that is available now. It adds actual diversity of flavor and variety to the gaming industry. Why deny that pleasure for those who want such games?

I've been gaming for over 40 years and the video game industry of today is in the worst state it's ever been in. It truly saddens me to see what this once creative and innovative medium has become. Over the last year or 2 I've gone back to playing retro games because I'm fed up with the lies, deception and outright corruption of the current gaming landscape. The glory days of gaming have long since passed and I fear will never return.

Yeah it's frustrating to see because if these people would take a little better care of each other they'd probably all be happier.

*Every day I wake up, its a new knife in the back of the thing I've loved my whole life 👎 I miss the late 90's and the 2000's when it wasn't this fucking complicated and developers just made the games. what is the fucking problem today??? just make the games that people want and stop with all this extra bullshit* 😭

I could understand ceos making a lot of money but hundreds of millions? that should be going to game developement.

So realistically every industry sucks and nothing’s gonna change unless the important people up top out of the kindness of their hearts care to make changes. Companies aren’t our friends we’re just statistics and potential buyers for their products.

There is so much greed in entertainment now, video games, Hollywood, sports etc. I just stopped buying the new stuff and enjoy the older generation consoles and movies. Still haven't bought a 70$ game, just not worth it.

The video game industry has never been "Legitimate". I know quite a few people think it was, but it never has been. Arcade games were made to extract quarters from people. They were designed to have specific difficulty curves at certain times. During the Blockbuster era some games were purposefully difficult so a kid couldn't progress too far during a rental period (Lookup Lion King). Anyone notice the PS1 and PS2 have "Memory Cards"? Hum that's odd since the Saturn and 3do didn't require them. These companies have always and will always devise new schemes to somehow extract more money from gamers.

The biggest controversy is the one that was suppressed so deeply that very few got to know the actual story and events pertaining to it. I’m sure you remember seeing a few lines dedicated to a woman who took her own life due to abuse by other employees, but in the actual court docs it is glaringly obvious that there was way more to that story, and had it not been conveniently settled out of court with strict gag orders, it would have blown a particular company apart. What you are allowed to see in the carefully controlled media that has shared investors with those companies is nothing compared to what gets suppressed.

What makes the Microsoft situation even more baffling is the Bloomberg interview with Sarah Bond and when she's asked about why the studios shut down, she just dances around the question by rambling and starts talking about the Fallout show's success and how the interviewer should buy the upcoming Indiana Jones game.

The state of the gaming-industry is just depressing at this point. There are just so many bad people in charge who should absolutly not be there.

its not just games either its been the same on streaming sites where they discontinue series that do ok and are popular but not popular enough, Netflix are especially guilty of this with some of their animated series

The most pointless controversy I have experience is when people complained about the pokemon designs and completely ignores what the rest of the game has to offer. It was like 1 small thing you can easily overlook has became the reason to hate the whole thing. Now that happened a while back to games called Pokemon black and white and their sequels and recently they have been seen as the best game of their franchise by most, but now a similar type of controversy has hit Palworld. After that it left me wondering why can't these people care gameplay? Like stuff that matters more? I guess hanging with "Pokemon fans" means being with a bunch of idiots.

Sierra invented graphic adventures in the early '80s & became leaders in the industry with King's Quest, Larry, Half-Life... until they were bought up and left to die:/

Ever since Xbox started to buy everything under the Sun, I had a bad feeling about it. It feels as if all the Xbox directive knows how to do, is spending money. Throw money and the devs eventually make a game. No, that'd be like saying gardening is just spraying plants. I understand Nintendo isn't a saint either, but look at their releases. Do you really think those devs are just that good at making games. No! Nintendo knows how to orchestrate their second party studios (they almost own NONE of them)!

Totally agree. 6th and, 7th gen of gaming is peak gaming in my opinion. 8th gen wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And, the 9th gen has been even worse. Aside from Switch. The Switch has been pretty good. But even still, definitely not perfect. Recently sold my Series X all One and Series X games, controllers etc...And have invested more into my PS3, 360 and Wii collection. Wish the gaming industry/world was in a much better state than it is. Would love to be as hyped and passionate about modern/upcoming games, systems etc..as I was up to the 7th gen. But with the way things are. The direction that gaming and companies is going...I likely will no longer buy new game systems. And just focus playing systems from the NES up to 360, Wii, PS3 (and Switch).

The Most Pointless Controversy? I can think of a few, but here’s a major one… - Driv3rGate: when Atari tried to ship out their gigantic AAA release of 2004, MONTHS BEFORE IT WAS READY, in order to try and corner the “GTA 3D Open World Sandbox” (Driver 3 aka “Driv3r”) market before San Andreas could get out of the gate in October/November + get all their sales earlier. The only problem? This was before Game Patches on Consoles were a big thing…so whatever came out in those earlier release copies were ABSOLUTELY BROKEN AND NEARLY UNPLAYABLE!!! Atari’s solution? Hire a bunch of Online PR Firms that specialize in review bombing specific games/products for a publisher with good reviews! Atari was so effective at the rewriting of history campaign that almost ZERO reporting of it happening at the time are still around. Unfortunately, this severely fractured the public’s trust in Reflections as a studio and left the Driver Franchise in a horrible unfixable situation… Atari would soon also go under as a Publisher within the next 5-10 years. Ubisoft would continue the franchise until Driver San Francisco dropped in 2011 and then completely pivot the franchise into a whole new one: Watch_Dogs

Here's my issues with modern day gaming. 1. Graphics and story being prioritized over gameplay. 2. Oversaturation of soulslike and open world games. 3. Sonys aaa budget output basically being the same game with a different skin each time. 4. Ridiculously bloated budgets that make profits impossible to obtain. 5. Gamers complaining about studios closing when they never bought or played that studio's games. 6. The console wars nonsense. 7. Fanboys on either side (mostly Playstation) hyping their exclusives only to not actually play them alongside having double standards when exclusives go to other platforms. 8. Publishers looking to only push major big name ip. Leading to a lack of variety and choice for players. 9. The casual mass market not supporting these new games because they'd rather play free to play games, call of duty, or fortnite. Leading to single player games and attempts at reviving old ips or making new ips not worth the effort because they don't make profit. 10. Gamers not taking accountability and soley blaming everything on corporations when we've only reached this point because we've allowed these companies to get away with this stuff for the past 15 years. Like, all the channels I've been seeing trash talking Microsoft and xbox then the next day "omg these new Bethesda leaks are insane." Like yeah just forget your fake outrage and get excited for the next product. We did this to ourselves for allowing and tolerating these practices from companies for the last decade. The gaming community at large. We didn't put our foot down earlier when it mattered most. Now we're seeing the results.

The industry kind of seems like a guy that stopped trying to impress and spoil his girlfriend because he’s got her now, and he’s just treading water trying to keep things alive. To be completely fair though, the girlfriend has ever increasing expectations, standards, and demands.

Because of their research with advertising. They learned they could predict consumer behavior then thought they could control consumer behavior & to some degree were very successful. True capitalism doesn’t diminish the consumers & the importance of their role in supply & demand nor ignores economics. What western civilization is experiencing is stakeholder capitalism which ignores economic principles & absolutely diminishes & disregards the consumer as it determines within itself the company is smarter & wiser than the consumer and deems to act on their behalf. Stakeholder capitalism ignores sales figures & profit margins and declares “we need more live service games” even after the success of Hogwarts Legacy & the demise of Suicide Squad for example. So many video game companies have very little respect for the gamer & the consumers. It’s why greed is unchained & economics are disregarded so every red flag that pops up warning them to change course is also disregarded n

Bizarre creations here in the UK was a sad one...the Metropolis street racer games, project gotham racing games, cool things like geometry wars, and i think when they sold to Activision it was like 1-2 years......Blur, Bloodstone and poof...shut. Probably EA will do similar with Codemasters who have been around since the 80's

But the solution is in our hands. As long as there are individuals buying crap, they will continue making crap. Try going a year or two without buying anything, cancel your monthly subscriptions and everything changes. They are for-profit companies and not charities and this will make them change. If we don't do this they will continue to treat players like garbage

I think the most pointless/silliest video game controversy is when people got mad over cops being in Insomniacs Spider man ps4 and in Fortnite, because they thought it "encouraged police brutality".

Iwata was the purest soul in the industry and he is still missed to this day. Too bad his way has not seen the light with this greed and corporate bullshit that hurts hundreds of thousands of employees.

The only reason I care about gta6 is so I can live vicariously through my character. I always wanted to live in - or just visit Florida and it’s beautiful beaches. I’m slowly dying of blood cancer, and am too poor to get there on my own. My rich family just went to Florida and refused to bring me along, knowing that’s where I want to go most before I check out. It’s simply an experience for me. I don’t care about the hype surrounding gta6.

Funny how video games up until 2015 didnt need anything other than quality content and innovation to succeed. It's almost like customers hate being pandered to and upsold on microtransactions like a retail store. Developers and players deserved better than this.

Xbox's recent actions have been horrible

I think the people at the bottom always wanted to actually create art. Before gaming went mainstream you could tell that they were mainly passion projects, you can look at pretty much any game from the 2000's and before and see that. There weren't really any games besides MMO's that were designed to milk you and waste your time. After gaming went mainstream, that's when the suits took charge, and all they can think about is how can we make as much money as possible. A lot of money just isn't enough, we gotta have ALL the money.

All forms of business start with one or a couple of people who want to create something for others to like. Of which these people themselves like these types of products, example 2 guys open a grill, due of they like to make burger in a town that doesn't have any grill. But as the business grows, these people distance themselves more and more from creativity and floor work. To finally sell the place to someone who wants to get their money back on their purchase.

The worst controversy in gaming is Microsoft buying Rare instead of Nintendo.

When I played GTA V and GTA Online one of the worst part of that game compared to the games that I played before was the controls.

Look, if a company wants customers to make an account for reasons, it's fine, but how does it help them to restrict purchase of their product? Am I going crazy?

I think Nintendo gets a pass from people because while they do do scummy things like the other two their products are at least of higher quality than what you would usually find on an Xbox or Playstation.

A lot of people are realizing aaa is killing itself. It's due for a crash. The faster it crashes the sooner we can get a reset.

All I play anymore is Animal Crossing and Bioshock games. Not a fan of much of anything modern. Don’t like where things are headed.

Just dug out my PS3 in storage for a decade. Downloaded games I payed for but can no longer get on current PS5. A simpler, straightforward time. Really glad I hung on to it.

Also, remember the day they abandoned red dead redemption. 2 online for grand theft auto 5 as well.

Its not always the CEO a lot of these companies are publicly tradeable. So a lot of these decisions are out of their control. Now, them getting paid insane salaries is a different story.

honestly, I felt the same way, I loved gaming, I grew up with it and I always thought it was magical. but then I learned it was all a lie and it was just awful people doing awful things.

The WORST gaming controversy will have to be EA's denial for the 3rd and LAST installment of Alice: Madness Returns, it was called Alice Asylum. EA's ignorance made the dumbest decision to not approve mr. McGee's concept idea and didn't want to give the IP to him, which greatly disappointed fans. Then on top of that, American McGee retired from the game industry. So NOW the IP is solved by EA collecting dust all because they didn't want to move forward the project nor take care of the Alice series. Personally, I'm still pissed about it since what they said makes no f*cking sense, EA just stay their a** in the hatred level in the game community. 😒🙄

It has been garbage since the days of Atari and Mattel. This is nothing new. Gary Kitchen was given 90 days to make Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600. Game was garbage. Volunteers have since made 3 great Donkey Kong games after the Atari 2600 died.

I really wish we would stop looking at capitalism as a money making system. What if we measured the success of capitalism by the amount of happiness, silly as it might sound, that people feel when dealing or after buying a product? Because ultimately that really is it, or it used to be anyway.

Certainly not the biggest but when Battlefront 2 came out as pay to win, then EA fixed it 2 years later and then stopped supporting it immediately. Really a kick in the gut. Also now with cod being okay with servers and peoples accounts being hacked and doing nothing to solve it.

I don’t really agree with the title, the gaming industry can be horrble for sure, but I don’t believe it is inherently horrible, there are some genuinely good people in some of these companies that do mean well, but the bad just always overshadows the good unfortunately.

Tribalism is something I hear A LOT as a Pro Wrestling Fan. Watching what Gaming as an industry is doing to itself. I think of THAT as tribalism.

How to change? I think we ALL need to stop buying video games for 2 years. I think that would get the point across. At least the big budget titles. Because these AAA games don't even interest me. I think the only titles that interested me in the last few yrs was resident evil 2 remake, mario wonder... (doesMegaMan 11 count? )Though i finally started Sekrio. Which i wish i dive into sooner. Anyway resident evil 4 remake, hi fi rush nothing has really grabbed me.

In Squares defense, they’re firing the American sides employees, who have influenced their productions with censorship and activist ideas that have cost them millions. We loved their games because of their Japanese sensibilities, and they should return to making games with those sensibilities in mind.

I don't understand how the higher ups of these companies can be this arse-backwards, like there's no way they can't see the absolute bullshit that they're spewing out every couple months, they should genuinely be ashamed of themselves, but that doesn't matter to them, money is money and money is important, oh except- it's ONLY important to THEM, it doesn't matter how many people lose their jobs and potentially go into serious financial problems, as long as people like Matt Booty can get just a little more extra cash, that's fine by them
