I was an extra at the Deland stadium filming. I lived a block away from it. They gave us each a life size cardboard cutout with a t-shirt and hat on to put next to us to make the bleachers look full in far away shots. They also moved us around many times to film the field goal block scene. They gave us burger King for lunch.
The Waterboy is one of the greatest, and most underrated, comedies of all time. It's chock full of quotable lines, fantastic performances, and the beauty of Fairuza Balk.
The Waterboy is one of the great comedies. That's awesome that you were an extra. I wasn't an extra, but I was in Universal Hollywood in 99 because our marching band was in the Hollywood Christmas Parade. My dad and I were on the Backlot Tour, and they let us walk around for a few minutes. We went into one of the buildings to use the bathroom, and it was a sound stage where Grinch was filming. The security guard let me use the bathroom because I'm disabled, and we got to go on set of the Grinch. We couldn't take pictures. We missed Jim Carrey in full Grinch mode by about 15 minutes. It was really cool.
Ha-ha! I was an extra on the set of that riverboat sequence. It was freezing that night, but I met Adam Sandler AND received direction from Henry Winkler. If I could go back in time and tell my 8 year old self that I’d met The Fonz…aaaayyyy!
I was there!! I was 20 years old and I grew up in Clermont. I was obsessed with Adam Sandler and SNL. Two friends and I took some Adam gear and walked up to the gated/fenced area. I had the book, "25 years of SNL," with me and my friend brought her VHS of Billy Madison AND snack packs. A very kind security guard met us at the fence. He asked us what we wanted and we told him we wanted to meet Adam Sandler. He said hold on and walked up to a trailer. And there he was, Adam Sadler himself!! The guard pointed at us and Adam looked and waved us over. He was so kind. He was smoking a cigar and said, in a typical Adam voice, "Don't smoke, your parents will hate it.' He signed our gear and took pictures with us!! It was surreal. We went back after taping before the set was fully dismantled. You are pretty much 100% accurate about your placement ideas. Momma's house was just a facade, it was empty inside. The water has come up a great deal because all of that area the house was on was totally dry and natural. Sidenote, we tried to meet Kathy Bates and she was not so friendly. I was also at the Citrus bowl and you can see 3 of my friends in different shots of the crowd in the last football game shots.
This movie came out a little over two years after I graduated from DeLand high. Some of my former classmates were extras in the movie. I do miss that town. Keep up the excellent work. Hope you and your family have an amazing year.
Sandler is comedy...So Rad I remember when u said you were an extra in the movie 😎 that was the gator Chubbs" from Happy Gilmore 🤣 you guys did a really great job on this🎬
I remember hearing about the Waterboy being filmed in the Orlando area, especially at the Citrus Bowl. My son graduated from Lake Brantley in 1998 and that was also the year of the deadly tornado outbreaks. On February 22, 1998 several tornadoes touched down, most notably in Winter Garden, Kissimmee, and Sanford. We lived in Apopka and I remember that night getting warnings about one touching down in Winter Garden and heading our way. I ran outside and looked up at the sky and it was a weird greenish tint and the clouds looked like they were boiling--like something from The Mummy. I found out later that were in the direct path, but the tornado went back up into the clouds and touched back down in Sanford. My son and I were in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) and worked at a shelter in Winter Garden after that and as Public Affairs Officer I took a lot of pictures of the damage, including a lot from looking down from a CAP airplane. I will never forget that. I am sure that is why they were collecting donations for tornado victims at the Citrus Bowl the day Waterboy was filming there.
I forgot all about the tornados. I lived in Winter Springs and one came by and scared the hell out of me. I remember parts of Sanford got hit really bad.
I was an extra in the stadium too. I remember them giving out Dominos pizza. We got a water bottle with the Waterboy logo printed on it and some sheet of paper saying that we were in the movie. I remember Sandler getting on a microphone and saying "hey everybody, Henry Winkler has something he wants to say to you" and Winkler got on the mic and yelled "Eyyyyyy!"
Awe. Here is a true story my cousin number 72 for UCLA was in front of Adam Sandler at Wells Fargo in Los Angeles. My cousin was 6'9 at the time tallest red shirt Bruin. Adam asked my cousin if he played football and Ricky pointed to his jersey number 72 and said yes I play for UCLA. Then he asked if he wanted to be in a movie and Adam gave him his jersey so number 72 he's is credited as "Meanie" when he finished college he stopped growing at 7 ft 3! ❤️ So God bless Adam Sandler my cousin will always have his legacy!
@@MITCHY_B_2003 after he graduated UCLA he got picked up by the Atlanta falcons before the season started he ripped his shoulder I've never seen anything like that in my life and he's an offensive tackle. He moved from California to Clark county Nevada he was an assistant coach to UNLV but now he's a principal as well as a Clark county sheriff. At 7 ft 3 he's quite tall!
@@LizzieWestBathandBody As a kid seeing the movie back in the day I always figured he was some kind of pro wrestler from the attitude era or something . I remember seeing the movie in the theatre when I was 6 years old , and still to this day I’ve been quoting one of his lines for damn near all my life - “Looks like you could use a shower ,Stinky !” I say it to my son all the time lol . It’s pretty cool to now know the back story behind old Meany , thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite comedies of all time! I didn't know you were and extra in the movie that's cool. Great to see you and Micah together yet again. Thanks for the great research and for sharing this video!
Some of my friends went out to be extras in the Waterboy, but I was busy. Beautiful Clemont footage! I have taken my third graders to Lake Palatlakaha Park for field day a bunch of times. That's some good quality H2O!
I am so glad you did this I was also an extra in this movie everywhere. Most of the football players at that time were actually Orlando Predators players that played football players in the movie. It was great to see all the locations. I remember the Citrus Bowl shoots and then moving us around to make it look full. I am still friends with some of the players from then. They were also in any given Sunday with Robert de Niro shot in around Orlando and Miami. Hit me up if u need contact info.
I got to go in the building where coach’s office was near the field they played at. It was a National Guard Armory building and I had to deliver an Army vehicle there. I was told they had just filmed a movie there a month or two back, so I had just missed it unfortunately. I was talking to one of the soldiers there and he told me that he was playing his guitar a lot in between takes in preparation for his next movie, which I found out later, was The Wedding Singer. I got to go back there in 2011, and took pictures on the field near the Armory. I also can do an almost perfect impression of Adam Sandler as Bobby Boucher. I’ve had people tell me I sound just like him, but I just like to make people laugh and forget about life for a moment.
I live about 10 minutes from where Tim Burton constructed the Village for Sleepy Hollow. A place called Hambledon near Henley in the UK. Be a great one if you ever made it over here!
Well done! The lawnmower scenes were filmed on my road. I was hoping you had made it over this way - but then I would have been sad to have missed you.
My daughter is a senior at Stetson University and I'm been on campus many times and had no idea parts of Waterboy were shot there. That was really cool. By the way that road that used to be by the student union has been gone no less than 4 years, so much for google maps. Very good video.
Yesterday was my birthday. I like the lake and football stadium scenes. Thanks for sharing this vlog and the extra smiles. You do such a great job on film locations.
When that was going on I met Jerry Reed in a small Florida town eating breakfast he was heading there to flim the movie his mother lived in Florida also great times...
I never knew all of this was going on right down the road from me back then!, wow! I had a lot going on back then with work and my kids were little. Bummer I missed out, thanks for the "trip"! 😊
My favorite video of yours in awhile!! The Waterboy, great movie! So much fun! I was in the Camping World Stadium in March to see Garth Brooks!! I was so excited watching I jumped up and was tapping the tv telling my husband, that’s where we sat! That’s where we sat!!! 😂 Thank you for always sharing your adventures! I so much enjoy watching. God bless!
That was so awesome! Love your channel, thanks for the clip man! I saw a vid where you were in Blue Springs, MO, wish I knew you were passing through I would have said what’s up!
Adam, really enjoyed your vlog! Hello World of Micah! I've only seen that movie one time. Very cool places that it was filmed! Looking forward to your next vlog!
I'm from Texas so I would have never known I got the movie was filmed in Florida. But of course I never been to Louisiana either so I would have believed it. Great video. I have seen both video. Yours and Micah. Just so you know, I've been a subscriber to your channel for years. I think like 5 years. I will subscribe to your friends channel.
I'm glad you recommended Earnest Saves Christmas 🎄. I just watched it and, it was very good 👍. Maybe I'll watch the Waterboy next 😀. I can catch up on some old movies 🎬. You guys are funny and, did a great job 👏. You have me saying it now. "You can do it all night long."
I like the exterior of the gym. (37:08) Those windows give it a hint of a gingerbread house appearance. I'm glad you confirmed your spot in the extras scenes. I paused the movie once to pick you out and apparently I was right. :)
I moved to Debary in 1994, and was disappointed I heard nothing about this movie until it had already finished filming. Love the movie, love Debary. That riverboat was the dinner cruise boat that was docked in Lake Monroe a few short miles from that Highbanks Marina.
while you were an extra in a movie..i was moving out of my parents home that same year, with my just returned brother the year before..been living together ever since.
I watched this video earlier and now watching again I just realized your shirt. “Rirruto?” “Those are Z’s.” “They look like R’s.” “That’s not even a real word it’s a name.” “Would you like to try BUZZ?” Love it, love your shirt Adam.
Not gonna lie, I watched the waterboy a week or so ago and when you get your close up throwing your arm, I kinda thought, "That kinda sorta looks like Adam the Woo!" Then a few days later, BOOM! This comes out!
I remember the first thing that I saw Adam Sandler in. It was a game show on MTV. it was called Remote Control. His character was called Stud Boy. In 1986 I was working on rebuilding the Santa Monica Pier .They filmed an episode of the tv show Simon & Simon. The extras told us that they were paid $35.00 a day
Adam Sandler is one of the best, one of the nicest and humblest guys in all of Hollywood, and I adore him for it...one of all-time favorite comedy CDs too... I'll keep a look out for Woo in the crowds next time✌💚
Adam, I never knew you and your sister were extras in the movie Water Boy. That's cool!! My grandkids love this movie. We laugh and laugh every time we watch it. Hahaha!! Mama says it's the deble. 😂😂😂 You can do it...!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😁👍
Love those no parking signs. Years ago actually convinced a friend the signs were there because the community had problems with people relieving themselves on the side of the road. Lol
I was an extra in ' The Waterboy' also, I still have all my free stuff that I got that day. In 2019, I met Henry Winkler at Comic Con, I wore my' The Waterboy' t- shirt, and he signed it for free. Oh yeah, we probably had seen each other, without realizing it ,in March of 1998.
