The angled piece with threads is an alignment stud. Would be installed on body and then when installing door onto car the hinge goes over it and lines it up to install the bolts.

As far as old cars (or in this case, a 400+whp FD feeling slow) this is always going to be the case if you're talking about acceleration and you have that experience with big bikes. What a modified car like this can do is provide extreme grip and balance (and sound + driver engagement), - I know you've said in previous videos that you aren't about the max grip thing anymore... well, if you're chasing acceleration, bikes will make almost every car pale in comparison, no matter how fast you make your 90's nostalgia car. And if you're chasing refinement, ease of use, and comfort, a modern car is always going to win out there as well. But you already know this deep down. I ride a literbike regularly and I know my modified FD is always going to feel like it lacks in acceleration and refinement. But thrashing it around on a backroad will always be special on its own merit: (lateral grip, ridiculous sound, showing up people in modern cars). You can make your FD on rails, make it sexy, and give it something to brag about, all while keeping A/C. Otherwise it's just another cars & coffee lecture about apex seals, which I've found is what most people buy them for.

Hydramat and catch can issues- I didnt have luck just removing fuel pump well and running hydramat. It starved still and I had to run a full tank of gas. Cheap fix would be a metal tube around fuel pump (to mount lvl float to) sealed from top to bottom of tank with "phantom" fuel foam cylinder around that. Basically a vertical fuel reservoir for the hydramat. Only thing that solved oil slosh into catch can for me was a trap door baffled oil pan. Alternately, you can simply have a continuous catchcan drain into rear turbo oil drain- but you get more fuel dillution of oil that way.

Awesome vid. Had subscribed to this channel years ago and wondered what happeend to the fd content. With you 100% on the fuel starve thing, among other fd specific issues you named. My fd fuel starved on acceleration below 1/2 tank with the hyperion cover, I'm literally as we speak installing a radium intank sump kit, and some other parts to make it more reliable, and trying to reignite my desire to drive it again. Also, if you can't get your diff sorted, I have a diff guy here in NC that is bad ass. He did my s4 t2 clutch type diff swap from the stock torsen.

A refined modified FD has always been my cup of tea. Years ago when I started my 20b swap, every little thing I did changed how the car felt. NVH started going up so I had to correct all that. It got to the point that pushing for HP was the LAST thing I wanted. I wanted a refined car that could be driven off the showroom floor and across country.

Thats a beautiful rx7 fd... I want to buy one but the prices are going up.

Keen to see more of the FD so I can live vicariously through it. Quite relate to the risks of damaging/writing off your nice cars and the effort it takes to fix, I only had a minor prang, and it's been over a year already, half due to money and half to motivation. The idea of having something simple like an NC with a couple bolt-ons would be pretty appealing if not for the fact I don't have money for that either 😂

I hear you man. I have an NB2 project car and it is my baby. I am meticulous with it, replace all the parts that break, its mint. one of the cleanest examples of an NB youll see. But I HATE working on it and I hate owning it because it drives me nuts when every little issue arises. Rear main seal leak, random EVAP system check engine light that I cant diagnose, plastic parts that fall apart, etc. But my daily is my 2018 GTI SE and its fantastic in comparison to the miata. its faster, quieter, more comfortable, rides better, more reliable, less maintenance, etc. So it BEGS the question, why do we even do project cars? its so dissapointing that these things simply dont work. I wish that I could have something that was reliable, singer-like quality and attention to detail, something that I can drive all the time without having to baby it and worry so much. Sometime I just want to sell my project car that I have spend hundreds of hours working on and just strictly buy new vehicles that I know will work.

I have a very similar turbo (tdx57 turblown to4e Garrett mod). It’s a street port 12 psi 91 tune putting down 100 less horsepower. 417 Is not bad at all. Is that on E 85?
