It's not often you heard a Who track with Townshend on the vocals, but when he stepped up, he knew he was gonna blow you away. The greatest band to come out of West London, no questions asked, no quarter given, turn it up people.
My earliest memory of Eminence Front was seeing this episode of Vice as a kid. I ALWAYS picture a drug boat with the spoiler when I hear that synthesizer riff. 😎
That police boat looked like a 31' Bertram my cousin owned back in, I think, the 70's. He had 2 gasoline engines instead of diesel. Fast as hell. Burned gas like crazy though. He needed a 100 gallon collapsible tank to run out to the canyon. Then ran on internal gas to fish and head back. Anyway, that was one fast boat. It wouldn't keep up with a go-fast but wouldn't be that far behind either.
I know this is a Miami Vice video but I can't help it.... Whenever I hear Eminence Front by The Who, I always think of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. The soundtrack to that game is burned into my memory forever.
Thank you for posting this. I always thought this was the best edited intro for any Vice episode. It's a complete music video. The line "you ever heard of trust man?" .... "yeah, I've heard of it...." man Crockett was the coolest man in TV ever
Cigarette boats were something else in the 80s - now they have fallen out of favor and the outboard Go-Fast boats have replaced them. Always wanted a Cigarette Boat - but could never afford one.
Yep, they cool af back in the day. The maintenance on cigarette boats were insane..1.) You had to rebuild the motors after 50 HOURS or use costing about $10,000 2.)Center consoles and outboard motors could match the speed and carried more people than cigarettes. ,3.)Gas cost, too.
Yes, it was. It was from their 1982 studio album It’s Hard. Obviously, Roger Daltrey sings lead most of the time for The Who, but this is one of those rare times where Pete Townshend took the lead. I may be wrong, but I do think there’s a version out there where Roger does sing the lead on Eminence Front, but I’m not sure. It may be an extra cut on the It’s Hard vinyl remaster The Who issued for Record Store Day 2022.
