Imagine if this had been a low key release 30 years ago. It would now be heralded as the scariest game you’ve never played on a gaming website, had a news channel report on how it drove a child to steal his dad’s shotgun because “the game told him to do it” or had a “curse” that anyone who booted up the game had terrible things happen to them.....
I think it was to start relating that music to danger, death, since we would subconsciously relate the wolf picture plus the music with critical danger.
Believe it or not, 8-bit horror games scares me more than the modern horror games. ________________________________________ Edit : after watching( resident Evil village ) trailer, i am still standing by my comment.
In 8-bit was some kind of atmospheric pressure. The Music, Graphics, Game engine. All of this need to make player feel the pressure from game. In modern games has no pressure, only screamers.
“Mara” is the title of a track in The Haxan Cloak’s album “Excavation”, and it’s apparently themed around a person’s journey through death. Mara also is a word in Sanskrit for death, and a term for a nightmare demon. And also the name a biblical woman took after her husband and son died.
Tfw this game makes me actually want to know more and clue/lore hunt. Makes my mind wander in the same way a Lovecraft story does when rising action starts. Also funny that an incredibly short ms dos looking game produces more horror atmosphere than current bs (imo)
There is a mexican old movie from the 60-80?? called "even the wind is afraid" or Hasta el viento tiene miedo. This is cool and reminded me of that movie.
This is great. Terrifing. The sounds, the music, the colours, the mistery, the images, the words. Everything. The most scarry games, comes in 8 bits. No doubt.
You have to have serious courage to venture into a video game cemetery, even if it's on ancient PC hardware. I'm starting to think that everyone is as undead as a doornail in this game.
If that was released back in the day to an atari it would be one of their best efforts! It would be like an early version of a RE game if you caught my drift! Although i am not sure if an atari could work graphics like those to be honest.Great video i like what they did there!
Hey, why it's not mentioned anywhere that this "game" is based on a movie with the same title, sotry, characters, settings, etc? It's not cool, guys, not cool...
